I usually don't like it when an item I want is on back order, but today, I'm happy lol. My "waiting for new stock" MF just went to back ordered status!! This is good!! lol

Not sure if you guys have seen this yet or not. I meant to post awhile ago, I received my magazine a few weeks back. Couple of neat projects in this issue.

(not actual Lego bricks on the cover)

MagPi62-COVER-MOCK-500x597.png

https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/magpi-62-lego-raspberry-pi/

Edit: Forgot to add, there are instructions on building a mini NES case out of Lego for a RetroPi build.

Note that you can download the PDF for free - https://www.raspberrypi.org/magpi-issues/MagPi62.pdf

The NES Mini build is decent. Would be curious to see some more advanced designs for it.

But that part with the Pi being hidden inside the Wall-E set is awesome.

Any of you guys with the falcon find another way to mount and display the new Falcon besides the technic based version on Eurobricks? I've seen the old version mounted on a TV wall mount that looked really awesome in Brickshelf - the movable TV mount allowed it to sit flush on the wall (a'la Falcon docked to a Destroyer awaiting Imperial protocol before going to hyperdrive) or pulled out an angled like Falcon in flight.

I don't know how solid the old Falcon was, but this one really flexes under its own weight and you really need to support its mass under the main dish. Plus the way the paneling goes on is pretty cool bc it allows access, but is really too loose to mount completely vertical. I think all the panels, besides the ones purposefully loose to allow access will definitely shift. Has anybody noticed that too? Or come across a fix described somewhere?

Edit: JUST saw some guy on Eurobricks testing a completely vertical mount using cord tied to frame and connected to a hook in the wall. A bold strategy....

Interesting breakdown someone posted on Eurobricks showing the top 10 most expensive sets by year. LegoGAF D2C buying power never ceases to impress but its gotten increasingly more expensive in the last few years to keep up (75159 skews this year a bit.)

I'm still struggling to balance my wants vs my wallet vs display space compared to just a few years ago.

I am scheming about a display stand myself. The Eurobricks one is great, but I wanna make my own. And thinking not completely verticals. Like maybe a 75 degree angle or so. Enough to keep the planes in place but greatly reduce the footprint.

And yeah, the buckling I notice when I move it.

Awesome. I'd love to see what you have in mind/come up with. The 75deg angle makes sense to keep the panelling in place. I was gonna stare at the Falcon guts tonight and see if I could use some sorta technic piece with a pin and axle connector to in the same orientation to provide some friction to those yellow axle stays.

I think I'll Look to make a stand myself too, but there's no way I have enough technic to make something anyway near as impressive as the Eurobricks one. Might end up doing a 'mixed media' approach - technic to make the connections to the Falcon and then bolted through the technic to a metal frame sorta like an erector set.

I'm sorta surprised the flex it has actually. So much so I'm thinking really the only way to display is horizontal otherwise the beams will warp over time.

Mine will be a mix of Technic and old skool Technic. Much like the stands for the planes and ships I made before.

The main thing I want that the Eurobricks one doesn’t have is a place for the info plaque and all the minifigs to be on the display too.

Same. Except I've pretty much used up all my stock for the stands I have in action now. So it's outta necessity and concern for warping that I'll look to fab a metal & technic stand.

I don't actually use the plaques. And I'm probably in the minority that I don't apply any stickers either...

(Warning: Offensively poor plastic figures)

This is why Lego costs more than other brands.

Man I was getting serious anxiety with the way he was cutting the bags with that box cutter while holding them in his hand, woof.

But yeah those look really really bad. I actually have a bunch of K'nex blind bag figures, I have all the OG Angry Birds which IMO look VERY good (probably because they are such simple designs) and a few of the Mario figures (not as good as AB but not nearly as awful as the Family Guy figs).

K'nex looks like their quality control is all over the place. I don't have any of them but their Plants VS Zombies figures look really nice to me too. But man, those Family Guy figures were just so bad. Horrible paint jobs, horrible printing, rough uneven plastic, inconsistent material use, weird color variation, the list just goes on.

Ordered the power stuff for the Winter Train this morning. Also ordered the Winter Toy Shop, which means I have another VIP store bag coming. Usually I open that stuff, but I may end up selling both of them in this case. It looks nice for what it is, but it’s not really something I’d display around the house.

I’ve bought five winter sets in the past five days. Have assembled zero of them. Still hoping to hold off until 11/1. November is legit the holiday season, right?

Second floor of stripped down Not-Green Grocer made in Stud.io. Have a couple options I'm considering.

Sand blue, which is roughly the same as the actual Green Grocer but blue.

And this orangey color, which has some further customization to make the masonry bricks work better. It's also not the same color as the pet shop, and color diversity is a plus.

I have no idea how worthwhile the prices listed in this program are, but the prices would be about the same assuming I adjust the side and back walls to use cheaper bricks. That would be necessary for the orange, optional for blue but I'd probably do it anyway.

Once I know where I'm going with it I'll probably also make some adjustments to the first part, and maybe do the rest tomorrow while I'm off. Still a while before I'll have the opportunity to buy the parts for it, and I'd say it's a lower priority than buying the actual available modulars.

Here we go.....

Can’t wait for the new modular, hope they reveal it early November (or sooner).

My purchases next year will be Detectives Office and Disney Castle. Maybe Brick bank. 2019 I’ll get the 2018 and 2019 modular and then I’ll be caught up.

Infinity War Final Battle with all the damn minifigures.

75181 Star Wars in May? Would coincide with the movie. But they’ve already revealed the obvious choose. Curious about that one...

I don't mind the nougat colour one but feel like the dark grey strip and window trim might look better in another, more vibrant colour to make it look less dull

Maybe a green? dark green?

There aren't any greens those are all available in. The only "vibrant" colors showing up as available for all the parts are plain red and blue, and both look awful. Tan would be the best I could do for a lighter color. I'll probably end up at least trying that, along with changing the curtains, maybe the awning (that's expensive with limited options), possibly other stuff.

Have the whole thing together now though.

After some play, I think the Ninjago Movie Green Dragon has surpassed the Turbo Track Racer as my favourite model this year...

(mind you I don't buy the bigger sets like some of the ideas and modular-level sets)

will probably put my VIP points towards the new modular. Planning on getting the WV Station this year, which should add another 5 euro's to my savings. Any chances on Double VIP on Black Friday?

Opened the Ninjago City box to look at the manual. What a great one! They should do this for any huge set. Interview with the designers, some artwork here and there, biographies of the minifigs. Itching to start building, but I'm away for a workshop next week, so I'll probably wait untill I'm back. Allready made space for it in my display case though... Still have to build the rope bridge set of Ninjago City, so I'll do that one first.

I also got the Chewbacca constraction for my birthday. Allready built it. I think it's one of my favourite constractions to date. It looks absolutely amazing! Still not a fan of building these things though.

And lastly, I fear the postal services have lost my VIP gift set, which was sent apart from NInjago City. First they managed not to ring the bell when delivering. Then I went to the post office to pick it up, and they told me they had mistakingly moved it to another post office. I asked for a new delivery, which they suposedly did (looking at my tracking info), but didn't ring again. Now it's been 'on it's way back to the post office' for three days allready... I had no intention building it, but this sucks.
