Not 'Room' , 'the room'?

The book really is a fantastic read. It's not just a detailed chronicle of the bizarre and inscrutable nonsense that surrounded the making of the film, but an incisive character study into Wiseau himself and how his persona and psychology ultimately spawned this movie that seems so alien. It doesn't go so far as to portray him as a misunderstood genius or anything so trite, and there is a dark side to him that sometimes comes through, especially in his sometimes-fraught relationship with Sestero, but you come away from the book with some understanding and even sympathy for him and his passion to create a story that's truly remarkable and evocative -- even if he didn't quite succeed in the way he hoped.

I wonder how they'll handle the passages about his
supposed backstory. That section felt a bit too personal and invasive to me, especially since it was mostly spun out of unverified rumors, and even if it were verified I don't think anybody would be comfortable with information like that being made public. Would probably be best to leave it out.

I definitely have to pick up the book then.

I usually think Franco makes stupid pretentious films as a director, I'm definitely down for this one. The story is too good to not work as a film, and based off everything I've read, it's definitely Franco's best film as a director.

James Franco long ago stopped giving a fuck about anything with regards to his career other than having fun. It happened before the stint on the soap opera, that's for sure.

He's admitted he doesn't sleep, and he takes any roles that comes to his way big or small.

Also, this film NEEDS to have the part where Tommy forces everyone to have a FIVE MINUTE moment of silence on the first anniversary of 9/11, and how Tommy would reset the timer if anyone laughed at the absurdity.

Totally forgot about that. A reread will definitely be happening in the near future.

1) Watch movie
2) Ponder how such a thing could possibly come to be
3) Read the book

4) Rewatch the movie

You watch the movie first, unquestionably.

The book adds tremendous context to the film and creates a surprisingly complex, empathetic portrait of Tommy. But definitely watch the film first.

Ok, thanks. Kind of hyped, I've known about both the book and movie for a long time, but never thought I would find reason to see the movie, but now I have a reason ;).

PLEASE let us know what you think.

I sure will :).

Watching this right now for the very first time...

there.... are... no words

25 mins in and ANOTHER awkward has hell love-scene, lmaooooo

oh man!

fuck, don't know if I want to read this on kindle now for an upcoming flight or listen to it instead!

Oh listen for sure. The guy's impersonation of Tommy is amazing, I know the book has pictures or something but the voices from the audio book are totally worth it.

Everybody who cares about this story, do yourself a favor and listen to the incredible audiobook of The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero (Mark's actor in The Room).

His Tommy impression is dead accurate and the behind the scenes info on The Room and Wiseau's history is more fascinating than you would believe.

Yep, it's great. And the audiobook adds another rich layer with Sestero's narration.

Totally down to see this with a group of friends.

I remember the first time I saw The Room. A bunch of us were drunk and it was around 1 am. I turned on Cartoon Network and half the screen was blacked out. I didn't even register that it was a sex scene since you could see the upper half of bodies moving, but my train of thought and speech was literally, "I think your TV is broken... Oh, fuck is this porn!?! Am I on Cartoon Network? I thought I turned it to Adult Swim. Wait... This is Adult swim. What's The Room?" Then we continued to watch it and then watched the parts we missed since it was schedule to run back to back three times.

I'm empty inside, please send help, I haven't reached the stage where I can laugh at this movie, maybe if I watch it again..

Why are the sex scenes so long, and the moaning.

Tommy Wiseau sent copies of this to Oscar judges, because he legit thought this was the greatest film ever made. Think about that.

I claimed the OT for this film, because I'm a huge fan of The Room, but I've actually never made an OT before. If anyone would like to lend a hand, it'd be much appreciated.
