DriveClub New Screens + HQ Re-Reveal Trailer

Lovely lightning and environmental effects, too bad I don't like realistic(-ish) driving games. If it was like Burnout Paradise I would be all over it. Anyway, bodes well for the future of the consoles, graphics wise.

That footage was downsampled, right? It won't look nearly as crisp running on a PS4.

Nope, I believe it was captured from a PS4.

Been streaming this to my tv. Watching it over and over and over! The sounds, the lighting, the music, the camera, environments and most importantly, the cars... such a well executed trailer. I wonder if weavermonkey worked on this or someone else. Whoever it is, good job!

Looks like they are hiring someone dedicated for this as well. He/she has big shoes to fill in

I still put the HQ footage of 'Night Racing' from Gamersyde on my telly from time to time and just stare at it. I very much look forward to this friday to compare.

As in an actual race? Awesome.

Yes, they already captured a few, don't know if IGN will be showing more than one. Maybe they just get one exclusive race footage and we get more from other outlets.

I really hope they do a full gameplay footage of everything from menu, social aspects, customization and full on racing footage.

As much as people dislike the social aspects, A lot of my friends and I are looking forward to it in this game and were heavily disappointed with the E3 video for not showing it
and along with everything else since it was heavily promoted in it's initial feb announcement and it's one of the features that was supposed to define the game from everything else since most of them play Forza or GT.

That said, my hype for the game nearly died out but the recent footage has certainly pulled me back in. Looks gorgeous and best looking racing even Project cars has got nothing on the shots and videos released.

Might really buy into the PS4 hype this year. Driveclub, TLOU R, The Order etc. So good.

Damn! I'm disappointed in this video. The quality is better than youtube but barely passes the "HQ" baseline! Compression artifacts everywhere! :/

And what is going on with the trees in the last portion of the video?

jAFx9BP4Jorc3.png

I checked the youtube version and that seems to have it as well. Is that a compression artifact too?

Having said that, the video proves that the game has some of the best AA I have seen this generation. The visual accomplishments are astounding!

Hoping all the info and media next week will seal my confidence in this game being a must-buy for me.
It looks to be an dithering filter, most likely from distance, hardly noticeable, point is I would not worry.

Edit: beaten by ages... Should have read till the end.

They want to show off how good it looks and the first impression we're going to get is through shitty IGN compression?

i hate shit like this. just say if it is realtime or not. or else there will allways be something fishy about it.

What else could it mean though? Plus, as others have pointed out, Sony has got into trouble misleading people before. I can't see them doing it again.

My bad, I wasn't clear enough. I will distinguish PR shots which are almost always bullshots vs. in game shots. Infamous: Second Son has a wonderful photo mode that was recently added, and all the screen shots posted in the Infamous:SS screenshot thread are actual screen shots. I've taken many photo mode shots myself in Infamous:SS and the screenshots are totally 100% in game, what you see is what you get. From a graphics perspective Infamous:SS looks fantastic, and in my opinion, better than any other shipping game on next-gen consoles.

I expect Evolution to add a photo mode to DriveClub and we will be able to take screen shots that rival those of Infamous:SS.

Then we're on the same page. Still though. Those images aren't pixel perfect so to speak.
There are some jaggies on the cars even hinting at it being real screen shots. In this day and age we do have that good AA-techniques.

it could mean pre-rendered inengine as we have seen dozens of time before.

dear developers, if you have to put in prerendered and/or downsampled footage in your trailers, just spare us with those fucking "ingame" "captured on" blurbs. if you re willing to show us your glorious game in pure form, than just say it's realtime.

I thought you were just pointing out the reflections.

Forza was slated for a 2d crowd but imo it's preferable to empty stands, the low poly mountain also stands out.

Still in motion it probably won't be such an eyesore.

The actual mountain doesn't look low poly at all, but the in the reflection it definitely seems to be the case. I thought the 2d crowds looked silly in Forza 5, definitely not preferable. Would much rather lower density and actually 3d modelling.

I honestly don't understand how can people still doubt in the capabilities of the PS4 after KZ:SF and ISS.

Who cares about what some PR/technical line says. Evolution will have no issues making this game look as good as anything they've released so far.

Someone is getting pretty fucking angry over an issue of personal semantics.

EDIT: Plus, what does Evolution gain from showing pre-rendered footage when 1) new gameplay will be shown 9th of May, and 2) the game is already being delayed by a year?

I gotta ask... why doesn't the industry make more use of Vimeo? Seeing the trailer on it looked fucking clean compated to Youtube.

Lowest common denominator. Everyone has the capability to play youtube videos on about any hardware you could ever think of. Uploading to Youtube ensures a 100% reach for the video, so who cares about the 1% (most likely even less than that) that cares about quality? Not worth the effort.
Sony also monetizes their Youtube channel, and must be making lots of money off it, so why put the video somewhere else or let other sites host it when it makes them lose money in the process?
Quality is sadly the last thing your average marketing drone will think about, from my experience.

So why doesn't YouTube just have adaptive bitrate streams for people with higher connections?

Just watched the vid in the OP, gorgeous stuff.

Question though, at the end of the trailer, there's a strange effect happening on the treeline when it says Coming October 7th... I took a screenshot of it, any ideas? Only happens during that spot in the video.

I think it's called alpha to coverage, on some games like PGR and GT the artifacts were pretty noticeable. Maybe the fog is causing it though. I dunno.

Rushy has already confirmed it was captured in-game with a debug camera.

I see...
It sucks as I quite became fond of quality videos, (no doubt thanks to you guys)especially after upgrading my TV set. Mostly use Youtube on my tablet.

Insane For Sony

Yes, fog is causing it because of multiple transparency overlay. The result of it is usually that pixels are on and off one after another and it looks far more distracting than it does in this trailer. In fact, the way it looks in this trailer also suggests downsampling from the higher resolution. Unless they found a way for alpha-to-coverage dither to have soft, alphaed edges (which would possibly defeat the purpose of using it in the first place?)

I'm just a little worried about image quality because they never seemed able to get it right in the older gameplay videos released so far. Other than that, game looks amazing. There's some soft, inviting and colourful look to lighting that you almost never see in games.

Low res fog rendering. You can see it before that in the time lapse shot.

Didn't expect to see stuff like that and the low-res reflections in a 30 fps game tbh. Maybe it's still like that from the time they tried to hit 60.

you guys are getting me wrong. im not saying this is inengine prerendered. im saying that evo should not use the same terminology other developers use when presenting bullfootage of their games.

It's not any different than what PD has done all these years with their trailers. Expect the same models, textures, effects etc. in-game, but without the perfect picture quality.

But it's a bit strange to say "all footage captured from a PS4 system" and then to show the game with a downsampled look. Slegdehammer did that with the Advanced Warfare trailer and that one is obvious realtime.

inFamous SS has great IQ, but even then you can still see jaggies. But we'll see once the gameplay videos hit.

Most people don't care, so why would they double their bandwidth bill? Bandwidth is anything but cheap and easy when you are talking hundreds of thousands of views, see Netflix vs Comcast...

what's that weird visual effect going on with some of the trees on the ridge below the "Only on Playstation" text at the very end? It's like the trees are turning into some little squares or something?

Looks great otherwise. As always, would like to see gameplay footage rather than stylized porn.

It's looking damn good. Am I disappointed that it's not 60fps, sure, but at the same time I remember playing the shit out of PGR3 and GRID and loving them and they were 30fps games on the 360. I just need the game to be good so I can have a racer. I'm not a fan of Gran Turismo anymore, I think Forza is way better, but I only have a PS4 for now.

We are based in France and can't afford the US based download server right now (though we might be able to get a new one soon). Still, you should get acceptable performance from our download servers even from the other side of the Atlantic.

Oh I thought it was a mess up in my cache or something. I have no complaints about the speed of the DL, it was fast non the less and the quality from your videos is still excellent. Guess I'll have to mute the videos though. Still worth the DL from gamersyde because of the quality.

Why would you mute the videos ? Unless specifically mentioned in the title all our videos are either in full English, or English with french subs. French dubbed video are extremely rare :)
