I'll be honest, I'm disappointed that it is 765 Pro again. As much as I like them it feels like they've already reached the limit for character growth with the OFA DLC episodes. I was hoping that the PS4 game would actually be Cinderella Girls since it'd give them a good chance to start from a clean slate in terms of idols, personalities, growth and song choices. But what the hey, it's not like I won't be buying it day one anyway.

Cinderella Girls are pretty one note to be honest. They're better off coming up with a completely new cast.

Same. I'd rather them just make up a new cast at that point. Sure 765 has some "tropes" or whatever you want to call them, but CG has too many gimmicks/one trick ponies.

the movie sucked
If I remembered my impression of the movie:
1. Takane being lewd again
2. Chihaya being perfect again
3. Edgelights/backlights on scenes are super pretty, GOOD JOB, ANIME ARTISTS....

And the rest were just a forgettable mess, nobody cares about the ML girls.

Tl;dr whenever ML girls appear, fast forward, watch it for chihaya, takane, kotori etc..

Yeah i enjoyed it way more the second time i watched it. Hype wasn't as high and when the boring parts came i just started doing different things :p

Also a heads up after the ios sale there is going to be a psn im@s sale too from 21th of july till the 3rd of august. Imas ofa is going to be about 1800 yen which comes down to 15 dollars.

Million Live anime?

My wallet is not going to like having to buy the Blurays for G4U again.

I would be really hype for that. There is plenty of content to cover from the Mobile game to cover into an anime. Heard the PV was for the new CD but they did the same for CG and that turned into an anime too.

Its like the LL vita games. 6 songs are shared between games. the rest 9 songs per game are version exclusive.

Hrm, I know that the games have "DLC" that you need to download in order to expand the song list - those are the exclusive songs for each version then?

I dunno lol i only have thepsp game melodic disc i believe is the name in the west. But the psp version does not have dlc i believe. Its been a while since i played it. but reading the comments in the appstore they are free.
All dlc songs are free as well and can be redownloaded if you run out of space. This game in total will take up about 3.5 gb (with dlc songs)

but if you want to know the song exclusives you can check them out here.
http://www.project-imas.com/wiki/THE_iDOLM@STER_SHINY_FESTA also noticed i missed one exclusive song per version there is also an all stars exclusive song per game.

Yeah, I know the apps are huge. Getting all three would take up a huge chunk of anyone's phone/ipad. lol

I almost want to buy them because of how cheap they are though, even though I don't even know if I'd ever play them. I was hoping they'd just package them all and put them on Vita, but I guess not.

There's an iM@S sale currently going on (JPSN, obviously). O4A is 1,850yen and iM@S2 is 2,270yen. The PSP stuff is also on sale.

(EDIT: This was covered above, d'oh.)

I'm thinking about picking up one of the PS3 games. Not sure which, although I'm leaning towards O4A. Never played one before and I figure this would be a good time to jump in since they're about as cheap as they're ever going to be.

OfA doesn't give you a geography test of a regular basis, so whilst there's things I way prefer about iM@S2 in terms of general game structure, OfA is way less impenetrable (and punishing) for those who haven't gone through the Japanese school system.

Yeah, I'm kinda leaning towards OFA for a few reasons. Plus it's cheaper, so I could get G4U Vol. 1 on IMAS Channel with what I have left over as well.

I'd still be open to being sold on 2, though. Probably gonna make my decision later tonight or tomorrow.

Since almost every PS3 must have is being remastered for the PS4 my need to consider getting one dwindles by the day (and I have plenty of titles for systems I do have to play) so my attention turns towards skipping that and considering a PS4 instead. Of course iM@S3 could go back to being less accessible than OfA was and thus bit me in the arse.

Of maybe after ten years Bamco will finally give the West a chance and give us pOPM@STERS with all your favourite licensed tracks from We Will Rock You to The Loco-Motion to All The Small Things and even 99 Red Balloons!

I love im@s 2 more than OFA, but the latter is probably a better choice for you. Much more accessible, more freedom to do what you want, and some extra fun mechanics. Story is mostly absent in OFA, but if that's not a concern, then you'll be fine with that. OFA just felt more mobage to me, while im@s2 had some fun time management stuff along with getting to know the idols better.

im@s2 does have a pretty good guide if you need it.

Both are easily playable as they each have English guides available. Idolmaster 2 is far more of a management strategy game with you having to plan your time correctly with picking what your idols do and when. OFA dropped basically all of the time management aspects and put a large emphasis on the stage performances (which were kinda underwhelming in 2) and communication events.

It's up to you really, OFA has better gameplay, but the lack of the strategy element was super disappointing. I still feel 2 was the better game, but it hasn't aged as well and it's less accessible than OFA. Don't buy G4U though, it's literally just you posing idols in 2 outfits and taking pictures, nothing else. That money is much better put towards some extra DLC songs.

Yeah I think I'm gonna go for OFA. Seems like it's a good bit easier for someone who doesn't know a whole lot of Japanese like myself. Having enough left over to get G4U Vol. 1 is a nice bonus as well.

EDIT: Or some DLC I suppose. Issue there is that I'm probably not going to put any more money into iM@S for a good while after this. I've got some other things I need to focus on, gaming budget-wise.

The DLC songs seem ludicrously overpriced, though. ;_; Especially when you factor in that I don't live in Japan so I have to pay Play-Asia's inflated prices for JPSN codes. I mean OFA is just under $15 by the current exchange rate, and I'm paying $10+ more than that (thanks, P-A). =/

After being an Idolmaster fan for a few years, you start to lose all sense of how stupidly expensive the DLC actually is, lol. If you need PSN cards though use Nippon Yasan, they're cheaper than Play Asia. I use them for pretty much everything.

I'd save like $3 going with NY over P-A. Play-Asia having instant delivery and the fact that I've already got an account set up there kinda mitigates that savings, I think.

I wish I knew someone in Japan. That'd make this so much easier. =/

Recently picked up OFA for cheap at a local import shop. Any recommendations for good guides to look at if my Japanese isn't at all up to scratch?

OFA English guide that myself and 0xwas worked on jointly when we were streaming the game on launch. I never did get around to finishing it up since OFA stopped getting newcomers pretty quickly compared to 2, but I can do a quick writeup of the basic stage gameplay as well if you need it.

OFA picks up after the tutorial stuff, right? Nothing has really struck me as particularly great gameplay-wise thus far, but I'm still in the tutorials so I'm not gonna make a judgement yet.

It gets more involved the more skills your idols have and the tougher your rivals, you'll be needing to wring out as many points as possible and prevent rival bursts which can be like a puzzle in itself. That said, outside of stage events the gameplay in OFA is fairly barebones, hence why 2 is still the more rounded game.

I briefly mentioned this in the Tekken thread, but I got this today when I bought the Tekken 7 x Idolm@ster DLC, but it's randomized (don't ask why, since Tekken 7 is full of casino gambling bullshit). I wanted Kat but I ended up with Lili.

Anyway I figured I should ask Idolm@sterGAF if I should combine that with this hairstyle.

I thought im@sGAF would be the perfect place to ask.

Can you change hair colour like in TTT2? It is Iori's costume she is haradas favorite. So i would style her like Iori. I think the costume is fitting for lilly since they are both rich kind of princess like but do speak up when there is a problem You can see on the previous tt2 community page iori rocking lillys outfit i did post it there. How she looks i would kinda go for the brown hair and keep OG lillys hair. I never knew even arcades had dlc. Think that is a bit to much since arcades are already coin munchers. Or is it any different in Japan?

You can change hair colour for custom hair, so I can change that short hair for Lili, I already did so with Katarina's custom hair. You can't change the regular hair colours though.

Idol master collab is separate from the ingame stuff, you buy it via tekken.net.

Is there a good "how to play" guide out there? The wikis and the Google doc are helpful for translations, but I still kinda don't know if I'm doing things right in the auditions and performances and such.

Afraid not. It was one thing I intended to write up early on, but we had a lot of more important data to get sorted so it dropped further down the to-do list, and then compared to Imas 2 the number of new viewers on Twitch disappeared quickly so there wasn't a need to do a writeup. If I get any time after work today I'll look at getting something typed up for the Google Doc for you.

There's not too much to get with the performances to begin with, honestly.

You have the four appeal buttons - the three standard appeals are Dance, Image and Vocal appeals, on the Square, Triangle and Circle buttons respectively. The idea is to perform one of these appeals when the pulsing circles reach the outside of the circular gauges at the bottom of the screen.

Now, each appeal has an associated percentage "Rate" against it, which acts as a multiplier against your units statistic for that appeal type. When you make an appeal of a specific type, you score points against it, but the rate against that type will drop, whilst the one one immediately to the right will increase (Dance->Image, Image->Vocal, Vocal->Dance).

The fourth appeal type is the Memories appeal, on the Cross button. Your idols all have that little heart gauge next to their names which increases when performing events or doing dialogue sequences with them, which increments the number inside it once it fills up to the top. This is the number of memories appeals which the idol can use during a specific game week (turn), and when you have multiple idols in a performance, you get their accumulated total to spend. Unlike in iM@S1/iM@S2, where these were consumables, you get all these back on your next term.

The memories appeal has the effect of scoring you points against all three of the other appeal categories, as well as providing a small increase in Rate for all three of them, and also increases your Voltage gauge by a significant portion.

Speaking of Voltage, this increases every time you perform a successful appeal, and once it reaches full, you can perform a "Burst" appeal by hitting whichever L/R button it signifies onscreen (it's been a while since I've played). Whilst Bursting, you get a sequence of ten (I think?) specific appeal indicators it'll ask you to hit, each of which will score at an increased (double) Rate. Your Rates will be reset to a default level after your burst, depending on which appeals during it you hit.

There's a lot more to this Bursting malarkey - you'll note that you can change which idol is leading the appeal, and that does make a difference - but that's for further down the line than confusing you about now. It only really starts to get significant once you start levelling your idols to higher levels and unlock various skills, though it's where an awful lot of the games strategy comes in.

(By the way, if you are nearing the end of a song and suddenly fill your Voltage, wait until you get the countdown which appears and use your burst at the last possible moment - it'll let you finish your burst appeals after the end of the count down, getting you an extra 8-9 appeals).

That pretty much covers everything you need to know about Audition and Live performance types (with Auditions, just watch out for the Appeal type-specific multipliers which appear sporadically).

Now, Festivals add in a further complication, in that you are performing against another act at the same time. The main interaction you have with your opponent is that you can see their Voltage gauge, and it basically comes down to you trying to manage theirs against yours, as if they fill it up, it's kind of a bad time (see that google doc linked earlier for some of your opponents burst effects, which occur when they fill their burst gauge up). Just bare in mind that doing a Memories appeal will actually decrease your opponents gauge, and actually doing your own Burst will drop theirs a little too. Obviously, the reverse is true as well - they can decrease your gauge by using a Memories appeal or Bursting too.

Also bare in mind that Rank Up Festivals are generally performed as best of three events, so be careful about your Memories usage - you may not want to blow through all of them on the first performance. That said, this is why they allow you to switch backup idols (if you are running a trio) between rounds, to allow you to restock your memories supply.

That's the basics, anyway. I've probably forgotten something - Azure probably has a better grasp of this stuff than me, so their advice should override anything I say ^^;
