Nintendo 3DS European Launch

I got a reply from Nintendo of scandinavia about what causes the "clicky" sound. Apparently it is the gyro sensor. Not pedometer/3d volume/sound volume.
I doubt it. If I hold the volume/3D/stylus with my fingers and shake the console there's no "clicky" sound whatsoever.

One neat little touch I like is that the titles for channels are dynamic. The Mii Maker shows your Miis in the squares and Face Raiders uses your faces.
Nintendo did this with DSi already. Kawashima (Download) shows your number of days and such in the icon.

Just added you. I really dislike the way adding a friend works.
Added you back :)
I agree, I wish you got at least a notification when someone added you...

Yeah, same.

Face Raiders uses the last face you scanned, even if you deleted it from your collection.

Got my 3DS on Friday with Ridge Racer and Super Street Fighter 4. I got a few questions:

1) The volume on the whole is very quiet. With the volume slider I can't really hear anything. Is it like that for anyone else or am I used to the booming volume of the iPhone 4??

2) Can games be patched?

3) Is anybody's 3DS lid/top screen stiff enough to stand on it's own at any angle? Mine lid is quite loose.

I'm jumping in tonight at the US launch, what's THE game to get with the 3ds? I was really only planning on using it for Pokemon Black and the downloadable stuff until Zelda comes out, but I decided I want a game tonight too. I'm leaning Ridge Racer or Street Fighter, but I already have an iteration of both on my ps3.

Any of you Europeans got a suggestion?

Yuh, mine's the same. Super low volume..

2) Can games be patched?
Don't know.

3) Is anybody's 3DS lid/top screen stiff enough to stand on it's own at any angle? Mine lid is quite loose
Same for me.

Mine's really loud, and the lid is absolutely fine :s I'm in the UK, if that's of any relevance. Much louder than iPhones...

Thank you both for sharing :D I might go into the forest and take some pics, but the lighting will probably be quite dodgy :(

Is there a way of renaming the photo folders as they show on 3DS? At the moment they just say the date :( Or is that a common file property or something?

My volume is fine, it's loud enough even if I put my 3DS down and move away from it.

My lid can also stand by itself even at around 45°, any lower than that and it will shut.

The only time I have a problem is if I am holding the DS vertically and accidentally knock the screen whilst using the shoulder button in street fighter, that leads to the lid shutting on my hands due to the momentum.

Oh and just out of interest, does anyone else's PAL unit have CTR-001(USA) on the back? Shouldn't it be CTR-001(EUR) like they did with the DSi [TWL-001(EUR)]?

Wow they still haven't shipped yours? They finally shipped mine midday Friday so I should get it Monday I hope. Maybe your order is just frozen, I've noticed it takes a few hours from them shipping it to them updating the order page so that could of screwed up for you.

Right now, it's just sorted by date. It's a bit annoying when you already have a bunch of photos on your card and you bring in some new ones from externally and you don't know where along the timeline they'll show up. Surely there's a better way to organize them.

Got to try it for half a hour, could only try AR cards and Ghost Recon.

...couldn't see anything other than "split images" and the soldier randomly "changing position" despite not moving at all (I think it's a side-effect of not being able to properly see 3D). Will have to try some other time, maybe with games better suited for the job.

Uff...

I am having such an awful time with their customer service reps.

I'm pushing for a full refund on my whole delivery, since they're refunding me currently only one third of the delivery cost - simplistically for one out of three items, despite the fact that the system would account for the vast bulk of the cost.

It's awful, it's like none of them even read the messages. And you can't reply to them, you have to restart and deal with a separate rep each time...

And I used to think Amazon had good customer service : (

I feel sorry for you guys.

I am having no problem with most 3d on 3ds, but bubble pictures do cause discomfort to me, ie. I am having hard time focusing on bubbles and generally things that seem to pop out of the screen.

I enjoy depth effects most and they are really easy on my eyes.

Face Raiders is so awesome. I got Gaddafi, Gene Simmons (full make up) and Kaneda (Akira) and they are all hilarious.

how do you put photos on the 3ds? didn't think you could do that on the DSi, so its good news if its more flexible on the 3DS

you can take out the sd card plug it into your pc/laptop and copy the files onto it.

I was just about to ask the same thing.

Edit.

Can you just dump em anywhere or do you need to create a picture folder??

Those pics are stunning, the bubbles ones are wow. Now I need some 3d porn pictures...

Also once we can start watching 3D videos off SD cards, the gloves are off!

It depends on what you focus your eyes on.
Could be that you're trying to take in the picture as a whole which doesn't seem to work for a 3D picture, unless it's more subtle.

Try to focus on just one bubble and try to let your eyes adjust for a second or two.

It seems to be work in basically the same way as real life, where you can't have 2 objects that are at a different distance from you in focus both at ones.
Normally we don't think about this stuff since you would just auto-focus from one to the other, thinking both were just as sharp, when in reality once you focus on one of them, the other becomes fuzzy.

If you use a 3DS to take a picture of a 3DS showing a 3D image, does it display in 3D?

Same here. Couldn't make it out in 3D, made me feel kinda woozy :(

Edit.
And those other pics made me feel like a dirty ole man.

I've had this twice, once this morning and one literally 30 seconds ago. Both happened while playing Super Monkey Ball.

well, quite. Folder structure specifics...?
The OP is your friend:

Can I view pictures taken on another 3DS?

Yes. Files are stored as such...
\DCIM\100NIN03\HNI_0001.JPG
\DCIM\100NIN03\HNI_0001.MPO

You can have multiple folders at the "100NIN03" level with different digits, containing pictures that are identically-named in different folders.

On point, my friend. When I focused on the bubbles-segment, I was able to see the 3D-effect clearly and it blew me away. If I tried to view the image as a whole, it was all kind of blur..

Too bad the Mii style doesn't make him much recognizable :(
Maybe just a hat would have helped a lot. Anyone up for another attempt?
