Games that had awesome bosses through the entire game

The original God of War. Just 3, but they were good. They cut one out just to focus on more content I think. Was supposed to be a bird on top of that labyrinth section.

Mega Man 2.

Dark Souls III

Plus some more that I won't post for spoiler reasons. Hardly a dud in the whole game.

is absolutely awful. It's "Let's put this boss' aggro on 11 in a corridor with weird topography and see what happens..."

It seems likely that he was a Bloodborne boss left on the cutting room floor that they decided to throw into DS3. The two games are so different that it ends up not working out too well, although I think that the fight is okay.

Not a single Souls game, that's for damn sure. Although, I'll say Dark Souls 3 was the most consistent with having good bosses throughout the whole game.

Boss quality drops tremendously during the halfway point for Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Don't know why people are mentioning Bloodborne. GAF being GAF as usual about that game.

Besides the Souls talk, I can't name one, unfortunately.

Persona 5-Only complaint is they are a tad easy sometimes.
MGS1&3-Just all filled with great memorable moments or characters.(Except the Pain).
Super Meat Boy.

Surprised not to see any mentions for FF X.

Fighting Sin on the boat, the various Seymour fights, the dragon Evrae and Yunalesca are all extremely memorable.

The boss fights of Super Meat Boy were not highlights of the game. One particular boss fight is just plain awful and nothing but trial and error.

Demon's Souls (the GOAT) still has the best boss lineup of the meta-series. Especially on the first playthrough, as many of them have different gimmicks that may not be as interesting on re-plays.

Dark Souls III probably has the best bosses mechanically, that hold up on repeated playthroughs. Out of 25 bosses, I only consider three or four to be weak

I agree with much in this thread ... However, I'll throw out something new: Splatoon

The single player campaign of Splatoon was fun, but felt like a bit of an afterthought ... The bosses, though, every one was immensely fun. I actually played the final boss multiple times just because I was having so much fun. They were well thought out with interesting mechanics, which, sadly, made the campaign seem even more lackluster.

I can get on board with this but the final boss took the game out on a pretty weak note.

Demon's Souls is an odd one, because while a lot of the bosses are interesting and fun, they seem more like concepts, or idea, rather than full boss fights. Like, you have:
Fighting a boss surrounded by normal enemies.
Giant boss that you need to knock over to damage.
Boss with a single weak point who again you need to knock over.
2v1 boss.
PvP boss.
'QTE' boss.
Blind boss.
Boss who is designed to be defeated by a specific weapon.
Boss who is basically an NPC invader.
Plot based final boss.

Now, a lot of these are interesting, although some like Tower Knight are just impressive due to the spectacle of the fight, not the quality of it. However, it always felt like they were trying too many things for me, especially when a lot of the more traditional bosses, like Flamelurker, Old King Allant and Penetrator are probably the best ones in the game.

I appreciate the variety, and it's probably my favourite selection of bosses from the series, but a lot of them rely on their gimmick being interesting enough, and for a lot of them it just doesn't.

That being said, I appreciate that more than DS3's variety consisting solely of it gets more aggressive at half health.

I wanted to suggest Bloodborne and DS series but I think there were some bosses in each of those that I felt were pretty average.

I will have to point to Monster Hunter. The issue here is more about how often you fight them if you need to grind for rare drops more than actually poor design and bad encounters. Even the fights against huge monsters such as Lao Shan Lung is absolutely amazing the first few times. It genuinely felt like you were trying to stop a mountain which.

Monster Hunter bosses, particular from 3rd generation onwards have to be up there. The game probably has more bosses than most too.
I love this video released that shows monsters and their average sizes.

Kid Icarus Uprising. 25 fast paced battles throughout.

Pretty much every boss in the game was great, so I can agree with this.
Metroid Prime 2, if I recall correctly.

The best bosses in Prime 2 were better than the best in Prime 3, but I would say Prime 3 has more consistently good boss battles.

That reminds me, the 4 bosses in federation force are really enjoyable, with some pretty good minibosses. One of the side bosses is insultingly easy though (so much so that they give you a catapult that nobody uses, and there are hidden items that nobody actually realizes are there).

Dark Souls 3 has astoundingly consistent boss quality. The only really bad one is Ancient Wyvern... And that's bad because it's so easy you barely even notice it.

Greatwood's a ton of fun. I like how it's a change in pace, and I love how you can choose which weak spots to target; getting one of the hard to reach ones feels great.

World of WarCraft always has pretty awesome bosses. Everything from 5 man instances to 40 man raids is well rounded out by strong lead-in stories and lore as well.

I still really don't like the final boss (blame my lack of skill making it stretch on forever), and the first boss is bland.

But the 2nd and 3rd bosses? Easily the highlight of Federation Force. They really promote teamwork and partitioning different roles to each squad member, and my first time beating each one was exhilarating. Not too shabby for a stack of boxes.

Physio Mantis with his powerful psychic abilities

Sniper Wolf the beautiful and deadly sharp shooter

Decoy Octopus master of disguise

Vulcan Raven giant and shaman

And Revolver Ocelot specialist in interrogation and a formidable gunfighter

And finally, in charge of them.. FOX-HOUNDS's squad leader,

Liquid Snake!

No mention of any Ys game yet?

...Huh. Well, Ys Origin's the best candidate here. Nearly every boss is well-designed, and the ones with flaws still feel great to fight. You also have a lot of varied mechanics for universal and character-specific fights, and excellent difficulty curve. Each of the three MCs can tackle fights differently, and that's not counting extras like playing against them as Napishtim or Oath Adol. I'd use Oath as an example too, but Guilen and Gyalva are decent and mediocre, not great or even good. And Ys Seven has tons of great fights but a few stinkers too.

I was gonna mention Ys too but Oath over Origins. Origins is a bit more accommodating since the bosses need to be combatable by three different people. The Oath fights are laser accurate in how well they're designed - It's just Adol after all - And they're always a blast (except Chester 1 and Gyalva on Nightmare - They're just mistakes).

You can use mines on the final boss when it's charging at you, you're given them even in the hard mode loadout IIRC.

On replays its actually pretty easy. And it's crippled faster by items in general than the other bosses.

Revenge of Shinobi was up there. Big samari dude, a ninja. An alien brain, the terminator, a nuke truck, batman, Godzilla, Spiderman. The last boss was pretty good as well.
