"Guitar Hero Live" Announced

First person perspective bodes well for this eventually getting VR compatibility, which is something that I think can revitalize the genre.

oh gosh, I just realized they are probably going this approach to simulate power cords and octaves......I could see the second row and why they would want it. But only 2 colors is weird.

This would be a great idea of Rocksmith and VR. A virtual stage where you could actual play guitar and jam. Or like a virtual studio. So many cool applications of this.

2 rows of 3, so

[O] [O] [O]

they're definitely going for chord shaping over fret positioning

The first person perspective doesn't really bother me, these games never were about the visuals and they could do some neat things with it.

A new controler is a different story. I think we need to see it to pass the judgement, it's hard to visualize from the description.

The exact same as any other guitar hero game? Except instead of seeing your character bop about on stage, you see a crowd.
Well, since a real band member moves around the stage, how will they handle that with animations? It can become really distracting seeing your character moving around and interacting with the rest of the band members while you're trying to follow the notes. Especially with a new control scheme.

Just as there was simplified notes for using a RB drum kit on GH, I am hoping there will be simplified notes for the classic 5-button instruments

Pretty sure this is made up. I don't think GH would abandon the 5 colored row, considering how it's pretty much an icon. Second, the 2 rows of 3 black and white keys sounds waaay too similar to the Beatmania controller. That doesn't prove anything, but it just screams fishy to me.

It says something about what we've heard so far when it's a reboot of a game that's part of a genre that's been very low key over the past few years, using a specialised controller that's different enough to all previous iterations that you have to buy it for this one game, and one game only, and yet the ridiculous gimmick is that it has a first person mode.

Nice, if only this information was in the very first post of the thread.

The information posted on eurogamer is exactly the same as the first post. Nothing says that old controllers aren't compatible in Le Monde's article.

It's true. Notice the NDA 16H in the URL? The embargo lifts at 16H00 CEST.

And the UI would be similar to this

double colored note means you press both rows in that column

if they still have difficulties, i'd imagine it'd be something like

Easy - only one row of frets is used, and less notes are present

Medium - both rows of frets are used, but never at the same time

Hard - both rows of frets are used, and can appear at the same time, but no cross-row notes

Expert - cross-row notes appear, full beatmatch note charting

Small thing but is it so hard for people to call this Guitar Hero and not Rock Band? Not just on here, but I've seen lots of people on other gaming sites call this Rock Band. They're from two different publishers.
Also, one is kinda crappy while the other is great.

First person view while weird doesn't matter. I see what they are going for with you being the rock star on stage looking out at the crowd. It's a cool idea but I like seeing the whole band play and the camera angles in Rock Band/older Guitar Heroes, not that you really look that often as you are focussing on the highway.

6 buttons of black and white sounds weird though. Obviously need to see how it works. At least RB seems to be sticking to the old formula and they are working on getting old instruments compatible (and at the least old DLC).

Fucking disgusting. I almost don't believe the little bits of info floating around, stupid as they are.

A few people mentioned a supposed Rock Band reveal later today. Did I miss out on some announcement?

Rock Band 4 was already announced a ways back

Yeah, but someone before ITT made it sound like there was some RB-related announcement scheduled for today as well (and just because the game itself is already announced, it doesn't mean there are no things to announce - old controller support, first songs etc.).

What's interesting about this is that one of the rumors surrounding the cancelled Guitar Hero 7 was someone mentioned that the big change-up coming to that one was a setup pretty similar to this, but with two strum bars on the guitar in addition to the six-button/two column frets. I wonder if that may have actually been a pitch that FSG had when Activision was getting ready to cancel GH7.

And thus Guitar Hero continues to tarnish the name of Rock Band with it's focus on gimmicky gameplay as opposed to quality content.

Outside of the unfortunate detour with boss fights in GH3 and World Tour, GH really hasn't had any big gimmicks from a gameplay perspective. If anything, Guitar Hero wound up focusing more on accessibility stuff that I wish Rock Band would have, like the quickplay mode and adjustable highway speeds that were unique to that player.

That being said, presentation has always been an issue for the series when Neversoft took over, so starting from scratch isn't a bad place to start.

This sounds terrible, but that's just my kneejerk reaction to the whole thing. I'll wait till they officially announce it to say anything.

Hopefully we get some gameplay footage.
