Thanks OP, will watch later.

Edit: wait this is from this last gdc!?

great video/presentation. extremely brief but it only had 7 mins. And still did a good job of telling the story of the first 10 year or so.

Some cool take aways from that video:

-PS1 originally had 1mb of ram, they later doubled it to 2mb.
-PS1's R&D was $50 million. They easily made the investment back.
-The name "PSX" was because it sounded cooler than Playstation
-200 units of the "Nintendo Playstation" were made

Kinda glad this didn't happen... So many games wouldn't have exist.

$50 million R&D, amazing.

"It was this great moment in time where the cost of development and the market opportunity were nicely aligned."
Yes, that's why there were so many amazingly creative games on PS1. I miss this. Thankfully we have indies on consoles now.

Hope he spills the beans on the Xbox one launch. Would love to know whose idea it was and the reaction to all the silly features that were originally planned.

Net Yaroze was the best thing. I remember avidly waiting the monthly issue of a magazine which came with demoes made with it.

If they could replicate that experience with PS4 or Xbone it would be awesome.
