Sonic The Hedgehog Offical Thread

I just heard Mephiles' voice and its clearly the same guy who voices Knuckles.

Didn't anyone tell 4Kids that using the same actor to voice 2 major characters is a bad idea? We're not that stupid that we can't tell the difference. I thought Jason Griffith doing Jet 's voice in Sonic Riders wasn't different enough from Sonic either. I know people didn't think the original voice cast were that good but at least they had a policy that Ryan Drummond (VA for Sonic) wouldn't voice any secondary characters.

well... the story ends with sonic and the princess going back in time to blow out the flame of soleanna (a ****in candle) and by doing so they never meet... it really pisses you off finding out that you basically endured all this BS to find out it never happened in the first place.

But then they meet in the regular timeline and remember each other. Reminds me of something. Follow me here.

Tales of Destiny 2 for ps2:

Basically the story is this: The hero, Kyle wants to be a hero real bad, so he sneaks out of town to find a huge lens in a nearby ruin. He meets a girl (Reala) there (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42D3UzmGHfw) They fall in love yada yada yada, but to defeat the evil goddess and save the world, Reala must die and make the game's story have never happened. However, in the new timeline, he goes to the same ruin looking for adventure, It;s not there, but Reala appears out of thin air, and they remember each other (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvbpfrlJwtY)

I think OoT was a bit different, unless I'm wrong in thinking it's a predestined loop. We do have Majora's Mask as a continuation of it all, at least.

If not, at least OoT has spectacular gameplay and a final boss that doesn't suck.

in a few weeks when I get the PS3 version, I will re-post an objective full review from a Gaffer... me

call it, the Gutter_Trash impressions

Sonic Adventure has one of the best soundtracks ever = fact.

Ugh I'm so dissapointed in myself that I had faith in this game, as I LOVED Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. I guess I'm not really bothered by the story or the extra characters like the petty complaigners are, I'm just upset that the adventure gameplay is apparently broken, how the hell did they screw up the engine? You'd think by now they would iron out the kinks in it...

Nothing to be disappointed about. Sega should have really put the effort into making this game great. Or at least Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 quality. Being the first Sonic title for the new generation, you'd think they'd have tried harder. It's only natural to expect it to be good. Or at least better than the likes of Sonic Heroes and Shadow.

Alas...

The Adventure gameplay engine was broken from the start, I dont know why it took people this long to figure that out.

Never played SA2, but I enjoyed SA quite a lot when the Dreamcast launched. I'm sure it wouldn't stand up quite as well if I played it again now. It's quite distressing that next gen Sonic is even more broken by comparison.

I think it's called Popcorn, but I couldn't tell you the artist.

Is it in any Sonic game?

It sounds like a Sonic game.

EDIT: You're right, it is called popcorn, and there are about a trillion remixes on it.

I just want the Sonic one. And, looking through it, I can't find it, and I'm not going to look for it.

So, that was a waste of a bump. Sorry if I poured any salt on Sonic fans' wounds here.

At one point, I actually DID look forward to this game. I never thought Sega would screw up this time. To be fair, i havent tried the game yet, but can you blame me? The scores are horrendous everywhere :/ I still dont understand how it could possibly be a 3/10. That bad, huh?

Whats with the human kissing Sonic btw??

Someone post a pic! I gotta see this to believe it. And i hope its not true :(

It IS true ;_;
I mean WTF, Amy should kiss Sonic. Or Tails kiss Amy and Sonic getting all mad :lol
But a.... human??? Someone totally unrelated??

That said, maybe they pushed PS3 Sonic US back so they could fix the camera which was people's main gripe.

The camera certainly isn't the main issue...

Honestly, the BIGGETS issue for me is the loading, which renders the game nigh unplayable. People are slamming the mechanics, but it's really no worse than Sonic Adventure 2. If you could enjoy that game, this one shouldn't be a problem...but the loading...

Hey dark, dya have any idea why the PS3 version is supposedly inferior to the 360 version?

I think the reason the PS3 version has been delayed forever is because SCEA rejected it, and they told Sonic Team to fix the game, lol. I wouldn't be surprised if the game did fail testing by SCEA (probably for some bug). I wish Sonic Team would delay it for several months, fixing the camera and other issues. I've been a big Sonic fan over the years, but I cannot deny the game has issues that need to be resolved.

If there's anything that makes the PS3 version inferior, I'm going to bet the loading is even longer (the 360 version loading was already bad).

If the PS3 version has the same shit loading even WITH it's built-in harddrive, then somebody's gonna shoot Sega in the face.

With a kitten.

Of anger.

I tried to play a quick game of this in store the other day - there is no such thing as a quick game with that loading.

A new team needs to get a hold of developing Sonic games.
Then again none of these games are really working for me. Even Sonic Rush is well...it's Sonic Advance 4...yay?

There could be hope for Sonic Wii but considering I enjoy the slower-pace of Sonic 1-3k+CD I don't see how it'll work out. Eh well.

I heard Sonic Rivals is pretty decent, otherwise, gotta hope that Sonic and the Secret Rings turns out to be good - I cant imagine it being worse than Sonic the Hedgehog on PS3/X360 (what a shame...)

Any Sonic fan actually ENJOY this game? :(

I heard the Japanese PS3 version is out. Are the load times any faster in this one? I'd import but I'd rather wait and hope the delay on the US version is for bug fixing.

I'm getting it on PS3 today will post impressions?

Will I eat crow, will I not? Find out.

Hopefully the crow is low fat :(
Let us know on the loading. I'm sure it's still terrible, but I'd like to know if it is as awful as the 360 version.

AlphaSnake

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
I have this terrible urge to rent it...just to see Sonic in next-gen and cry.

I'm picking it up either today if it's out or tomorow (games to Canada tend to be delayed by two to three days because of the stupid manuals)

Impressions thus far:

The game is beautiful. Best looking Sonic to date bar none, really does make the Wii game look horrible - shame.

The answer to the horrible loading times on the Playstation 3!
They're still there!

The gameplay plays almost exactly like a fixed up Sonic Adventure - the controls are smooth and the game play is pretty fun. It really is an unoffical Sonic Adventure 3. Overall I'll use the excuse everyone else uses lately, it's FUN. I mean it's nothing as fun and innovative as Sonic Adventure one and two for the time, but it gets the job done.

What I like:

- The graphics, the atmosphere, and the surroundings. Cool stuff.

- The story and characters - corny but I like the depth that Sonic has, and even a simple platformer has a cool story is cool with me. I'm not too nitpicky just give me something that makes me want to finish the levels.

- The gameplay - though I was a fan of the Sonic Adventure series, and I don't think the Sonic sections arent' that bad at all...though I haven't unlocked Shadow and Silver, though I'm interested to see how they play.

Now let me nitpick:

- The loading times are ****ing god awful, I hate them, why not make use of the PSintstall and let us install this game directly to the hard disk to minimize loading times? That would have been a great feature.

- Generic bland uninspired music, really seriously bland and boring.

- Horrible voices, it's like they fired the old cast and went out of their way to find shittier people, I mean really...

- slight slowdowns here and there

- The saving system is annoying.

- The escort and on rails portions of the game suck.

Overall, "Shitty Friends" (oh what clever EBGames Employees can think of.) isn't that bad, but it really doesn't progress to where it should have been.

Yep glad they used all of that extra time to improve upon the X360 version.

Same f*cking load times? Good lord, Sega, what's the deal? That destroys the game.

Wha? The music is one of the best parts. The soundtrack was fantastic (outside of the main hub theme).

Dunno about the English voices, though, as I played it in Japanese. I avoided it due to the fact that it was likely to BE the "4 Kids" crew...

Of course, it's all a wash thanks to the loading. >_<

Yup the loading honestly is the worst part of the game, and dark sorry I don't find the soundtrack redeaming :(. I dunno it's just missing something, sorta like Zelda it SOUNDS good, but I find little to hum or to remember.

Um the controls are fine though, you must really suck ass if you "fall off cliffs" or what have you.

Chris, does the game offer a partial install?

are you forced to do tow missions between the Action Stages? or can you just zip and from Action stage to the next without messing with the town?

you kinna are forced to do the town stages, and nope no partial install. I wish there was a way for custom soundtracks as well (perhaps there is?)

For example gutter:

You start the first world in the hub, then to get to the first "area" you are forced to explore the hub, find this man who will give you an objective to get 100 rings so that you can buy the upgrade from the store that allows you to speed through the rings ( I think it was called the mystic light in Soni Adventure), I mean it's stupid first of all, but the loading is god awful.

It's like this:

You talk to the man

- load -

You get the mission objective

- load -

You beat the objective

- load -

You hear your congradulations

- load -

You get the mission complete. I mean it's just ****ing tedious and unneeded.

However, I'm finding some gems in the game, I find the action stages FUN as hell...they really are, just simply fun.

However, some valid concerns about this game are to be addressed rather than "Omg ShitTy FrieNds WiI lol!" shit. Under the mess of the loading, and some much needed polish, it's pretty decent. I think they were rushed to get the game out the door by a Christmas launch, and it was held back for the American release for god knows what reason.

However, I'm struggling to have fun with it lol - but I can stomach it so far. Like Dark said in the xbox impressions, the load times kill it ack.

any sort of six axsis controls?

You'd think the on-rails portion of the game would support this and at first I looked like an idiot tilting my control to make him tilt, but nope.

This doesn't explain the PS3 version's load times.

That's it... mother****ing kittens of mother****ing anger... DEPLOY!

See, I found the camera to be what killed what I played. There were also times where I'd be jumping in air to land on a ledge and hit the corner and fall, even though there should've been enough momentum to take Sonic to the platform.

Oh, and the story is horrible. No way around it. It turns the game into a joke.

I literally cringed with the Sonic and Elise part when they first are together.

I mean I can handel the concept of Sonic with humans just fine, hell I can do a mature storyline

...but the dialog and how the scenes play out are just ugh bad...
