Manhunt 2 Rated Adults Only by ESRB

oh jesus.... Now that's just too far.

I've been pretty supportive of this game and I have no problem with extreme content in media but rockstar had to know that would get them an AO.. You have to work within the limitations of your industry. If you push the envelope too far, it stops being edgy and it just gets retarded.

Because of this, the game will be delayed while they cut all the stupid sh*t out. Putting stuff like that in the game was just dumb and pointless.

How do you know that's even real? Why not wait for a source on that quote.

Ehh true enough... My response is predicated on the idea that the quote is real.. It does seem a bit over the top, but it would also explain the AO rating.

The ultra-violent videogame Manhunt 2 allows you to rape a woman shortly after you beheaded her in the brothel level called Honey Pot. Members of the ESRB were shocked when Daniel Lamb used his male reproduction organ and simulated a penetration in the bloody hole. Other gruesome parts include microwaving a living cat to death and being a witness of necrophilia in a cemetery in one of the later stage of the game.

Yeah... I can see why this has been banned in the UK.

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.

btw, i just checked amazon...

why are the PS2 and PSP versions $40 and the Wii version $50??

:( extra 10 for waggle?
The PS2 is last generation. Wii is next.

This might have been missed earlier so I'll repost it.

Nintendo did, in fact, have a policy prior to Manhunt 2 that prohibited licensing and distribution/sales.

An unlicensed game, most likely in the case of Wii, won't run on the console.

I'm fairly certain they do.

This is from the Nintendo website - http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/buyers_guide.jsp:

*Please note that Nintendo does not sell or license games that carry the ESRB rating "AO" (Adults Only).

I also believe Sony has the same policy for licensing games.

:S jeebus, the rape and then beheading, then stickin' it in a wound that's kinda over the top no? If that is indeed true. I will still purchase it I'm 25 btw but if there is that kinda content included then I hope underagelings won't be allowed to play it.

Cuz I know the if they included that kinda stuff on the Wii version im sure the Wii mote must be used in rather "unconventional" manners. Release it yes, but don't let kids play it.

Where the hell did this quote come from? I'm not about to believe something just because someone quoted it on the internet.

{Mike} posted it unsourced. I hightly doubt that is true. And it would be nice if he either fessed up or sourced it. ;p

This part in particular doesn't read very real to me. It seems too badly written even for newsblurb journalism. But, whatever, we'll see.

Confirmed to not being released as an AO rated game, according to Gamespot.

Sony and Nintendo denied the game..so I guess the game could be delayed..for the next month release, cosnidering they have now to censor and change some stuff..

Who knows..
Dissapointing from both of them, considering they knew what was in the game already and the content of it.

As a note, Microsoft confirmed that they don't allow neither AO rated games..at least for their consoles.

Yeah... But really, look at the Hot Coffee mod. It's just fully clothed pantomimed sex. So I'm wondering if they're sensationalizing this too, and it's like calling Hot coffee a graphic depiction of sex.

The Hot Coffee mod i used made the girls naked. Dunno if that was an "external" skin mod tho :)

****ing a neckhole is pretty specific. On the off-chance it's true, I think I'm going to take back my defense of this game.

The assets in the game were fully clothed as far as I know.

I dunno, if it's just silly pantomiming, it'd be stupid. They're making it out that he cinematically whips it out as soft music starts playing in the background, and the lights dim. I'd have to see it. But the hot coffee bit really made me question what these people find graphic.

So what can they do now? Surely they won't cancel it and they can't ship it in the current state. Guess delay it and "censor" it, ah well.

Maybe, but cooler with naked chicks hehe, external skin mod or not ;)

Windows/OS X/Linux and maybe 360 are still open for release. There are like 21 PC games that got AO rating, but most of them seems to be porn related. Not sure how they handle violent games when it comes to PC releases.

If that quote actually is true, I wouldn't expect much of a delay at all, just because it would mean Rockstar was intentionally angling for the publicity, and should be prepared for swapping out the "real" game they intended to sell. Really, like I said in my first response "Manhunt 2 rated Mature" doesn't generate this kind of attention.

And actually at this point it probably doesn't matter if the quote is true, since the cycle has probably already started where other sites will start sourcing GAF for this news, which leads to people posting more threads here with the same news, which leads to more sites sourcing GAF for the news...

Well honestly, how graphic does raping a decapitated body have to be to be offensive (wonder if Rockstar meetings ever start off this way :lol )?

I mean if the screen goes black, and just flashes the words "You are now raping your decapitated victim... 'creatively'... ", what rating should that get?

MS doesn't allow AO rated games on their consoles.

Well Microsoft has also said it won't allow AO games on the 360, according to gamespot. Home consoles is where money is, especially the Wii.

GameSpot has confirmed with Nintendo and Sony that one of those options, which would be to accept the ESRB's judgment and release the game with the AO rating, isn't an option at all. Both companies forbid licensed third-party publishers from releasing games rated AO for Adults Only on their various hardware platforms. Though Manhunt 2 isn't slated for any of Microsoft's systems, the company has also confirmed that it does not allow AO-rated titles on the Xbox or Xbox 360.

Ok, then the last option is pretty much Windows, OS X and Linux.

Mm. I'm going to wait until this quote is sourced, but if it is accurate I'm astounded that Rockstar went quite this far. Letting a player rape a corpse would certainly be the most extreme thing I've encountered in a couple of decades of gaming, and it makes me quite uncomfortable to imagine that someone, somewhere within Rockstar/Take2 could have let it through to certification.

do you think they leave the wii version AO and change ps2 version M becuase the wii's controller gestures?

The ESRB raters don't play the games, they base things on video, so the controller isn't very relevant.

BTW I think a third of the posts in this thread are devoted to cycling through each hardware maker and mentioning that they don't allow AO games...

WTF, Nintendo basically begged Rockstar for a Game, and they deny it! Yes I know, Sony denied it to but shit. Release it on the PC as is and I will be there day one!

It's not BS. Because it is their product. Don't like, don't buy. You people won't, though. You won't even complain directly to the companies. You'll just continue playing armchair analysis on GAF.

davepoobond

you can't put a price on sparks
it would probably be best for Rockstar to release a PC version that you can either download or order on their web site and then have a "vanilla" version for the consoles
