In an impressive move Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ is the unlikely title to knock Call of Duty off the top spot (ending the impressive 9 week run) thanks to a huge 114% increase in sales. After debuting at No100 in the All Formats Chart 7 weeks ago it has been an unexpected hit and steadily risen to the top.

‘Just Dance’ is Ubisoft’s first No1 since ‘Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2’, which was back in March 2008. Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (+0%) also outsells ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ (-17%) this week, retaining No2, while the colossal-selling shooter has to settle for No3. EA’s two player co-op sequel ‘Army of Two: The 40th Day’ makes it’s debut at No4 which means that Nintendo’s ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (-23%) slips one place to No5. THQ’s ‘Darksiders’ (-23%) moves up two places to No6 and Sega’s ‘Bayonetta’ (-41%) is down to No7. EA’s ‘FIFA 10’ (-34%) is at No8 and then Ubisoft holds No9 and No10 with ‘James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game’ (-17%) and ‘Assassin’s Creed II’ (-35%).

Strange that this is on page 3 and last week's thread continues to get replies.

...

I wonder if Ubi will rush another Just Dance game to market and become another case study for the 'Wii owners don't buy yearly iterations of party games' club?

This game should follow Guitar Hero pattern... People will not get feed up on the first version because there's many more music they want play... But they will eventually...

With the extra publicity from this Just Dance could stay up the top 5 until Easter quite easily.

The game is reasonably priced and nails it's demographic. It was sold out over Xmas and now people are catching up it's selling.

The only surprise was that it took a while to get to the top.

Or maybe they will get lucky with a Just Dance Plus.

What's with NSMB in the UK? It's not doing that great.

Stock issues would be a likely answer, although I wouldn't know myself. The game's struggling somewhat in Japan, too, owing to the same problem.

Mt Heart Attack said:
Yeah, it's very decent, but pretty shitty compared to what it's doing in the other European countries (or in Japan and US as well).

This is the first week since it's release on 20th November that it's not been in the top 4. The ELSPA awards also show that it was somewhere between 600k - 1m as of the end of December in the UK alone. It's doing just fine.

Considering their production values, I expect some new dancing games to be released for the Wii within a few weeks.

Dash Kappei

Not actually that important
Italian charts are back after a two weeks hiatus. :)
I also note that from now on the italian charts are going to cover a different period than all other charts (this one goes from 4/1/2010 to 10/1/2010), so Dabra how do you think we should label them? Week 1 or Week 2? I'm going for week 1 atm, let me know.

Right, so Ubisoft should be pumping out sequels like crazy no time soon :p

I kinda think the game deserves though, i've seen videos on youtube and even though could be doing that same thing while watching a VHS tape, it seems like they're having a lot of fun.

There don't seem to be any stock issues effecting it over here, from my observations at least - not that I'm saying NSMBWii is doing poorly by any means.

I would guess that it is for all versions. Other multiplatform games like Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Fifa 10 and Assassin's Creed II are only listed as one entry as well. Or do you mean that you would like to know if most of the copies that are sold are the Wii version only? :)

NSMB Seems to be in decent rolling stock. Just Dance is selling out in the non game stores (HMV) but you can find it in Game etc.

That said, NSMB Wii was really big over Xmas so is in the top 10 Wii games in the UK already, and heading for the Million club.

For all these hurrahs Forza is getting, you do realize there's another racing game just above it in the charts that's been out more than six times as long, right? :p

After bombing in the US I assume they are just happy to see it do good somewhere.

Not really surprising since the Economy didn't suffer as much as elsewhere in the world.

I just can't believe the legs on Forza. I think it's the first 360 game to actually have genuine legs, with Halo 3 coming in as a possible second.

Right, so Ubisoft should be pumping out sequels like crazy no time soon :p

I kinda think the game deserves though, i've seen videos on youtube and even though could be doing that same thing while watching a VHS tape, it seems like they're having a lot of fun.

Its a fun concept... its like guitar hero except to do body movements following instructions on screen...

It just needs more polish... like new choreography for 2 people together ( you know like it the musicals) and maybe a design your own dance option.

UK PS3 sales hit 3m
by Ben Parfitt

Sony jubilant ahead of a year it says will offer “a few surprises”

The PS3 has now passed the 3m sales barrier in the UK, SCEE has officially confirmed.

“We are delighted to have passed the 3m milestone with PS3,” an SCE UK spokesperson told MCV.

“With the incredibly strong line up that we have going forward – Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles and God of War III in the first quarter alone, then Gran Turismo 5, Modnation Racers, Motion control, and a few surprises for the new fiscal year, this is a great way to start the New Year.”

Sony recently reported that it sold 3.8m PS3 consoles around the world in the closing weeks of 2009.

Industry figureheads around the world have been keen to praise the PS3’s global performance in recent times, with NPD describing its North American performance as “a turning point” and ELSPA boss Mike Rawlinson calling it 2009’s “star console”.

Wow. Surprised to see the PS2 doing so well over there. I guess there has been a lot of discounts on PS2 games recently?
