Amazing sales for Hokuto Musou. If those numbers are accurate, then it should easily do over 600k LTD, and could very possibly even hit 800k.

You mean both SKUs combined right?

Also am I correct in saying that, if those numbers are right, God of War 3 1st week sales of 55k (GOW3 + Trilogy) is bigger than any of the other GOWs LTD sales?

I really wouldn't have bet on Hokuto Musou opening that strong. Impressive if true. And, yeah, Yakuza 4 will easily reach the 500k 3 did. Sega's milk-age is paying off.

In other news, for what is worth, MHP2G has officially shipped 4 million copies in Japan.

I never realized that the Wii was closer at beating the PSP YTD than the PS3 was at beating the Wii YTD.

/edit/ Oh, I see it's the financial year and not the calendar year. But Wii and PSP are still surprisingly close.

PSP has had over 40% YoY decline in Japan.

I wander how the legs of this game will be.. is it going to be sub 80k or 100k+ second week on PS3.. any reviews?
How did the previous entries of Hokuto did on PS3 or PS2 or PS1.? wandering should it be treated more as a new IP with good legs or rebird of an old IP with same short legs

thats for market share between PS3 n XBOX360 unit sold.
Market Share = 7.2k/(7.2k + 397k) *100 :p

7.2% of sales for it were on 360. Not a sell-through percentage, but platform share.

1. Dragon Quest IX has sold 2.563 copies in 6 weeks (this SKU is dead now that Ultimate Hits came out)
2. Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver has sold 24.074 copies in 2 weeks (the race to 4 million continues)
3. New Super Mario Bros. Wii has sold 89.091 copies in 2 weeks (it must have rised again this week)
4. Friend Collection has sold 78.718 copies in 2 weeks (it must have also rised this week)
5. Final Fantasy XIII has sold 7.264 copies in 6 weeks (dead)

Wow, Hokuto Musou did much better than we all thought. Is it sold out in Japan right now? I'll be there on Sunday and don't want to miss out on picking up the title.

Last year at this time we had Yakuza 3 + RE5.

Now we have Yakuza 4 + Hokuto. Nice combos.

Any other big games around the corner?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Love Plus+ and EO3 should sell pretty well - no Yakuzy 4 number but still.

What are the big HD titles coming for Japan soon?

It seems like Yakuza 3 did barely over 500,000 in Japan LTD. Yakuza 4 is already on 474,000 on its second week and is looking to significantly outperform Y3.

All that new install base really did some good.


I'm also shocked at RE5. While the PS3 standard version did 500k just like Yakuza 3, it has garnered another 230k of sales so far from its gold edition re-release. That's almost HALF of the original's LTD! When put together, RE5 has sold 725K, and will most probably overtake the two MGS4 SKUs at 780k!

Nice numbers for Hokuto Musou, it will be interesting to see if week 2 will have a huge drop as Yakuza 4 week 2 had

God of War 3 excellent result, in a few days it sold GoW and GoW2 combined LTD...

If I were Namco, my strategy for God Eater 2 would be to make it for the PSP2 and try to release it before a Monster Hunter game gets on the platform.

This way they can be the premier (and perhaps only) option instead of an in between Monster Hunter snack.

Hokuto Musou did really well.
Thought the xbox360 version would have sold around 15% but it was even lower.
Yakuza 4 should pass Yakuza 3 rather easy if things go how they should.

I don't think there is currently anything coming up for the PS3.

Re: Wii..well don't get me started...right now there is nothing, but I have to assume Galaxy 2 will come out relatively soon since it is out in less than 2 months in the U.S.

It's probably a bit of a stretch, but do the recent success of Y4 & Hokuto show that there is actually a market for PS3 games now in Japan? Aka, good games with good advertising can do 300-500k like the PS2-era? Not unprofitable 50-150k like they were at the start of the gen?

I think the biggest thing the PS3 has before the Fall right now is Lost Planet 2.

So yeah... not much.

There's White Knight Chronicles 2 coming out sometime in Summer. The first one did over 300k.
