Ni No Kuni Collector's Edition for EU/NA [failure level well beyond critical mass]

(952) 392-2057 - I got this contact number from a Namco email rep, and was finally able to reach an agent who took down my updated billing info and assured me my order would be updated system-wide within 3 days.

You might get a rejection initially. Just mention that others have done it. If they can't fulfill your request, just call back a few minutes later and speak to someone else.
Definitely recommend following up on this. When my wife called a few months ago, they took her updated credit card info and assured her that the order would be changed. A few days later I got an apology email, saying that the form of payment could not be changed on the order after all. I think we're still going to call and hassle a bit more before the game comes out, but at this point, after three calls and several emails, I have more or less given up and since no one else has reported a successful change to their order - just promises from customer service reps that ended up falling through and outright denials - it seems unlikely that it's going to work out for anyone who needs to make a change to their order. Good luck and godspeed to everyone still trying though!

Reposting for the new page:
If you get a familiar via pre-order, do you start the game with it, or what? I wouldn't want to ruin the beginning game experience. Any thoughts on which pre-order familiar is better and why?

BTW, the guide is now available for pre-order at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/030789598X/?tag=neogaf0e-20

$26.39 + shipping. It also, of course, comes with the Golden Hurley familiar.

I just pre-ordered my copy, but will cancel when [and if] it becomes available on Amazon.ca. I don't know why, but I get the feeling this guide will become rare in the near future.

Thanks for this Chrono, I was still on the fence as to where I wanted to pre-order from, didn't see this pop up. Nabbed one with the game and now I just sit here and wait.

I can't wait till this one is at my doorstep, it's one of the few CE's for 2012 that I'm really really looking forward too
Also kinda hope that my girlfriend will dig this game so I can push her more towards gaming :p

Hm, considering importing a copy via GAME now, since Digital River doesn't want me to have the North American one I ordered. Wouldn't be able to get any of the DLC, but might be worth it for the book. Hmm.

DLC should be ok, you'd just need to make a UK PSN account to redeem it, but any account on the PS3 would be able to play it. If it's paid DLC then buy a UK PSN card online or find someone to help you with it.

so eur pays 100 eur and gets less stuff?
how so old-worldish, we get the short end of the stick so much that i'm not even in the mood to complain anymore...

Is the Collector's Edition from a particular store? I've had mine preordered from Gamestop for months now, and I still don't have the option to upgrade it :<

Edit: Apparently it is, god dammit. I love Ghibli too D:

"For reference, I want to note that my 10's don't come easily. This is the 27th review I've written on PlayStation LifeStyle, and it's the first time I've used the 10. I've only given out two 9's prior to this, and my average review score is 5.9. Just some perspective on this :)"

HYPEEEEEEEEE

All aboard.

Please sell modestly well, I hope solid reviews can open this game up to more consumers

Man, I hope Ni No Kuni ends up being that good. I've been looking forward to it for what seems like has been years. Enjoyed the demo (and the battle system!) but I'm still not completely sold.

Crosses fingers.

The 10/10 PSLS review.
Deserves some linkage.
Due to its aesthetics and main character, there will inevitably be discussions of how “kiddy” the game is, and already we’ve seen the word “childish” pop up, which is an inappropriate description of the game. One thing to note is the difference in the connotations of childish versus childlike. Beavis and Butthead is childish, whereas Spirited Away is childlike. There’s also a huge difference in something being made for children and being enjoyable by children. Care Bears and iCarly are made for children; Spirited Away and Nausicaa can be enjoyed by children. The latter two, however, are far more than just “kids’ movies.” Ni no Kuni is a game you can play with your kids in the room, yes, but that doesn’t take away from the quality of the script and there high level of challenge here. This game — its features and systems — are everything JRPG fans have been wanting.
Nice.

Nice.

It's a banned site, which is why there was no linkage.

I need to see more reviews on this. I enjoyed the demo though.

Edit: I just realized that was an import review. Guess they imported it now for the USA release and this way they can bypass any embargo media may have since it isn't a review copy considering the Japanese release was Nov. of 2011.

The first representative (Ryan) that I talked to told me that there was no way that I could change my billing information, but I asked to talk to a supervisor (Kirby). The supervisor was super nice and he got around it by cancelling the initial order while opening a new one for me with the updated information. I ended up receiving a confirmation e-mail from the store and it's showing up in my Order History. He did it in a way that just carried the reserve stock from my initial pre-order over to my new order. Definitely see if you can talk to a supervisor.

He also upgraded me to Next Day Shipping for free. ;)

Whoa, now thats what I'm talking about. 2013 is going to be one hell of a year.

It's going to be better than 2012 handily because most of the big releases of 2012 seemed to be either disappointing (ME3, AC3) or just complete dogshit (RE6). I'm not a pessimistic or hard to please person either, I'm generally on the defensive end of the argument but there were some real letdowns in 2012.

If I import the US version from Amazon to Australia can I still redeem the bonus DLC that comes with it?

DLC is region locked, so i guess not. I have Tales of Xillia JP DLC and I cant redeem them on my US account.

But there is a little trick. PS3 can store several accounts, so just create US account, redeem DLC and install it. Then enter to EU account and play game with DLC.

Not sure if it has been posted but RPGLAND has posted the Ni No Kuni review. I am not sure if that site is banned or anything so not linking it here. Here is a snippet though from the review. They said the game is fantastic and one of the best RPG's of this gen.

Were it not for the high-tech Ghibli gloss, one could play Wrath of the White Witch and mistake it for a 16-bit RPG classic. It recaptures that intangible spirit of the SNES-era RPG — that perfect blend of story, characters, environment, mechanics and design that drew so many people to the genre in the first place. If you have decried the state of the modern RPG and long for an experience reminiscent of Chrono Trigger, Earthbound or Final Fantasy IV, you owe it to yourself to try Ni no Kuni.

Even though I didn't think much of the demo I'm looking forward to this. Ordered some speakers for my TV and can't wait to try it out with this game.

Hurray for good reviews. lol @ PSLS being a banned site though. Also, why wait until now to review the JP version ?_?

The character design is very off-putting for me.

That lantern character seems annoying too. Is this a very adolescent style story?

I could not stand the first few hours of Tales of Graces F.

from PLS.

Ni no Kuni‘s story is a well-told tale of a young boy trying to undo the death of his mother. Main character Oliver and his companions act, speak, and otherwise conduct themselves in believable ways. There’s a certain campy sound to a lot of JRPG dialogue, and Ni no Kuni is largely free from this. Oliver talks and acts like a real kid would; his mother talks and acts like a mother might; his magical companion has the same accent as my magical companion (sshh). Some might roll their eyes a few times in the early going, but the story does a great job of providing an interesting reason to keep going for players of all ages.

The cast has great chemistry and the writing is surprisingly solid. There are a few moments that feel like they were forced in as little more than an excuse to show off more of the pretty graphics, but overall, Level-5 did an impressive job putting together a collection of characters that really compliment each other.

Guys, do u know if the Namco CE preorder will arrive the day of the game's release? Or will I have to suppress my urge a few more days after?

The review you speak of.

Is it possible to change camera view during open world exploration?
Yes, it's fully rotatable.

The 40-60 hours number floating around seems to be for the main story. Completing EVERYTHING might take longer. RPGLand's figure estimates:
The main story could take anywhere from 25-40 hours to complete, and doing all quests available before the final dungeon pushes the play time well over 60 hours. Even after the main game is finished, there are still 100 hidden treasure chests, seven pirate memorials, and sixteen hidden villages on the world map to discover; an Imajinn battle league to conquer; a magic spell book to complete; a casino with slots, minigames and a cutscene theater; postgame quests and bounties to hunt down; alchemy recipes to find; and Golden Imajinns to catch. Full completion of the game will require at least 100 hours from most people.

GAME has it for £69.99 instead of £79.99:
http://www.game.co.uk/en/ni-no-kuni-wrath-of-the-white-witch-wizards-edition-180778?pageSize=20&searchTerm=ni%20no%20kuni

Also their standard edition says that they'll give the companion book as a bonus offer:

gm_widget_NoNiKuni.jpg

So......European CE only has extra plushie and the two gold familiars then?

P.S UK/EU guide book buyers, their hard book guides are £14.99 instead of £19.99 unless someone found a better price?

Preorder Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch on PlayStation 3 and you will receive a 300 page Hardcover Wizard's Companion book in Japanese.

I would've jumped ship otherwise.

in japanese? did Namco have a ton left over that they gave to GAME for free? Thats odd.

surely a mistake, or maybe you want it just for curiosity/art?

Which would you get - the EU wizard edition (plushie and book) or the standard edition + guide? I have the wizard edition preordered at shopto for £69.99 but I have £40 GAME credit which would cover the standard edition

It's really your choice, I'm sure the Wizard edition's companion book would be in English, you get additional the 'Exclusive "golden mite" and "golden drongo" DLC familiars'; why not use the GAME credit for the Wizard edition?
Wizard Edition + guide

Believe that's the choice for most in this thread. =D

good point. Although I can't use my credit in the online store so I'll have to try my nearest retail shop which isn't nearby anymore

What are the odds of a limited print / quick sell out situation? I really want to this, but I'm trying to cut back on what I spend on games this year (spent just over $1700 last year and that's just WAY too much for my budget). Any chance it'll stick around in circulation long enough to get some price drops?

It'll probably stay in circulation for a while - if Graces can, I'd have thought Ni no Kuni will - but Bamco don't seem big on price drops.
