Things that instantly turn you off from games.

You know, the thing where, as soon as you find out the game has it or is it, you don't want to play the game anymore. No thought or rationality is involved here, you just lose interest immediately.

I don't expect there to be any attempt for you to defend your gaming turnoffs, as they are almost by definition irrational turnoffs that don't take into account counter-examples.

Okay, let's begin.

For me:

-Anything with an anime art style.
-Anything on a handheld or smartphone.(just not comfortable to play)
-Scantily-clad woman on front cover (this just screams "pandering to 13-year-olds")
-Motion controls (stopped playing the Wii after 2007 because of this)
-MMOs
-Generic title, like "Rise of the" or "Reckoning" or "Unleashed" or "Evolution" or what have you
-Zombies

So, GAF, how about you? What "features" virtually ensure that you'll never play a game?

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Turns me off? Time limit in open world games.

Turns me off? Any game with a motherfucking Blizzard intro.

If the game is described as or equated to a "JRPG."

If it's celebrated for being over 20 hours long.

Paying any subscription.

I enjoy FFXIV but any levequest in which I have to keep beckoning someone to follow me is a glorified escort mission. I hate escort missions.

Oh wait, I forgot one.

Any game that "gets better after the first 10 hours" or other such nonsense.

I want to be done with a game after 10 hours, not endure through 10 hours of boredom in one to get to the "good part".

All of these. Otakus drive me NUTS so their games tend to get the same reaction. I just can't.

Also, shitty cameras.

Slow, cumbersome movement. If it's not even fun to move around in your game, I'm not going to bother with the rest. Mercenary Kings is a good recent example.

Being only on PC
Being only on Mobile
Having micro-transactions of any form
Having a shoehorned multiplayer mode, or having a poorly handled open world sandbox.

Gruff beards. We get it, you're too busy killing dudes to shave.
Military-style guns. I play games to escape reality. Give me a moonraker.
Any sort of item-synthesis game. I really want to play thos Atelier games, but I hate making my own items.

Lousy story. It doesn't take much for me to like the story or even if the universe it's set in is good, that's ok. I like KZ2 for example. But a terrible story will put me off.

Almost nothing I guess. I'm pretty tolerant when it comes to a lot of things. I think what comes closest is being exclusive to a system that I do not own.

tutorials that teach you how to walk forward and backwards etc..

Ah, this would be my most serious answer.

"Interact with object or person by pressing 'X'"

"Open the menu by pressing Y/Start/Triangle/options"

Hate bloated tutorials.

Games that nag me. It's usually done by npcs/companions that bitch at me to get moving when the game encourages you to explore an area for loot, collectables, supplies, etc before moving on to the next objective.

Restarting a whole level because of a mistake. I suck at bit trip runner, so theres that. Sorry DK TP. I suck at those games theres really nothing wrong with them.

Actually, im finding gaming lately to be a chore rather than a joy.

Padding. The worst kind of feature in any game. I've already exhausted myself from playing Skyrim and I don't have the heart to continue anymore. I didn't pay money to have rote and repetitive tasks just to extend the game time unnecessarily.

Nothing makes me go "fuck this I'm out" more than buggy, unoptimized performance.

If the core gameplay is fun enough, I can put up with a lot, but the damn thing has to fucking work before I'm willing to give it that leeway.

Japan

It's weird, 'cause I was a huge otaku back in the day, but I've never really enjoyed most Japanese games.

Whenever a game tells me how cool it is. Basically all thats missing is a "Now be impressed! Isn´t this cool and edgy?!" sign popping up every 2 minutes while being dead serious about it.

You can't go past this point until AI leading the way does it for you.

Die and start all way back here.

Return to Battlefield.

Ammo crate areas before something obvious is about to happen. Hello Tom Clancy.

Microtransactions and lots of DLC on day one.
Season passes
too much gore
lame main characters (witcher games I wanted to like you but I hate geralt)

Games that are really brown and or grey.
Games that are really dark so you can't see shit.
Randomly generated levels.
Time limits.
Excessively high/punishing difficulty.
Generic Tolkien-esque art styles.
Generic anime art styles.
Bad graphics and especially bad performance.

Time limits and escort missions. Two of my most hated things in video games. >.<

It doesn't even matter if it's a strict time limit or a fairly generous one. The moment I know there's a clock ticking I just feel constrained and tend to rush things.

Escort missions are just guaranteed frustration for me. It's kinda the same deal as with time limits for me. Even if it's fairly easy to manage objectively I still hate knowing there's the possibility of losing because the stupid AI character ran into a big group of monsters without protection or falls into a deep hole somewhere because it was trying to follow me in a straight line intead of the path leading around the holes.
Winning or losing should always depend on me as the player. Don't make me lose because your AI is shit. And even if it's not shit, don't give me the feeling my success is in your hands and not in mine.
