Titanfall Beta Players: Is "Revolutionary" and "Game Changer" accurate?

Most of the negativity I've seen on various forums has been from PC gamers. Console gamers seem to be liking it a lot more than them.
I dunno man, I'm a PC gamer first and very much like Titanfall so far, same goes for my friends who also play the beta on their computers. We're having alot of fun with the game and look forward to the full release. It might not be revolutionary but it certainly feels like a gamechanger after years of CoD and BF rehashing.

games media were going gaga over this game after or before e3.

that was when all the hype just blew over. no one has played it beside them, and they constantly mention it in their videos.

now that the beta is out, there is hype from consumers but it is nothing like what the games media did. no one is fainting or having tears in their eges over this game. no metaphors or.hyperbole in the way peeps describe this game.

I don't think it revolutionary or a game changer, but I do think of it as a wonderful evolution of the cross-platform FPS and what'll probably be the biggest shooter series of the new gen.

Pelydr

mediocrity at its best
Not to stir up fanboyisms or anything but I've always thought about what the perception would be if this was ps4 exclusive with the general thinking that everything is better on ps4 ( and most of it rightly so). Just a thought...

Uh huh. A $60 multiplayer only generic as fuck FPS isn't going to be received well anywhere.

I like the size of the maps in this game. I hate playing games where I have to run miles without seeing any action. I know some may have criticsed the 6v6 player count when Respawn initially announced it, but I honestly think it's perfect. The game feels fun without feeling too chaotic.

I said before these are like the creeps in MOBAs, and I treat them like such. That said, they're still some of the worst AI ever. I think the creeps in LoL have better AI.

Creeps in MOBAs are the most boring element of the match and players try get that phase of the game over with as quickly as possible. A typical MOBA match also lasts 30-45 minutes, a typical Titanfall match lasts 5. Trying to pack in the dullest part of a MOBA match into a game that lasts a fraction of the time doesn't make much sense to me.

Not trying to start anything but can someone direct me to the thread with the Thuway rumor about Titanfall able to run at 60/1080 on PS4 and Sony pushing hard to get it?

Just wanted to check out what's unfolding there.

edit: Unless it's this one.

I think the player count works well. I never feel like I'm just getting killed over and over again from outta no where. I also like how short the games feel in attrition mode.

Just played it on PC since EA fixed their mistake and sent me a PC key. Didn't seem like anything special. I actually got bored after a couple of matches and the tutorial and turned it off and uninstalled. Maybe it's more fun on xbone. Battlefield 4 is much more fun to me.

Please link to these claims of 'revolutionary' and 'game changing' cause I don't think I've seen that once and repawn certainly aren't touting that line. In the latest preview, polygon correctly points out that they borrow wisely from many other games.

I think a lot of what is being written about Titanfall is accurate, but it's hard to but them all into a combined context.

The line about the game being for people bad at FPS makes sense becuase it's so easy to shoot titans. They are big slow targets and some of the anti-Titan weapons even lock on. Pretty much anyone should be able to jump on one and rodeo it.

The AI bots to me are really dumb. Multiple times I've run into a building and seen then wrestling with one another. I really need to grab a screenshot and video of it.

It's also very fun, I would say on the chaotic side of things so I could see why it would be very popular as well. There seems to be a good balance of how good players would be rewarded with faster titans and bad players will still get a Titan once or probably twice every match so they will feel included in the fun. Unlike a bad COD player that just goes 1-16 and doesn't contribute anything.

I don't think it's revolutionary or will really change a fps genre, but I think it's fun and will be successful. That's partly because of the game and partly becuase of what else is out right now and the feeling that people really want something different and this will scratch that itch.

As someone that used to play COD every year for 3-4 months, and only played Ghosts for 3-4 days, I'll probably get my fill of TF from the beta and not buy it.

Pretty much exactly how I feel after playing Titanfall Beta.

I play almost every CoD since Modern Warfare.

The most I ever spent on one game was a year in both Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops 2. Ghosts was like 2 days for me.

I'm already bored of Titanfall after 9-12 hours. With this new gaming generation, and a lot of great games coming out. I just can't see myself throwing $60 for another shooter game that is strictly multiplayer. At this point I'm more excited for Destiny.

I absolutely think Titanfall is revolutionary.

The mechanics of wall running, double jumps, and jetpacks has never been done on this level before.

Add in mechs and the MOBA style of gameplay, it just gets that much different.

Wish I could have gif'd this. Last match:

in my titan duking it out with another titan, nose to nose end up punching each other to death, we simultaneously eject (auto eject), getting into a gunfight on the way up, I kill him at 200 feet in the air, boost down on top of another enemy titan who is near dead, rip off his hood and kill him then jumping off onto my team's nearby friendly titan and kill an enemy pilot who is trying to rodeo the titan I'm already riding on.

All within about 30 seconds.

...yeah, call of duty with mechs. Keep saying that.

So let me get this straight. This beta has provided you 9-12 hours with its limited content before boring you. I would say that's pretty damn great. This is a beta after all without most maps, weapons, titans, and modes.

Not at all but it's certainly fun! Enjoying way more than I ever did Ghosts. Still prefer BF4 overall I think but this is nice change of pace when I'm in the mood for some fast mayhem.

Not really. I was already bored 5-6 hours in. I just wanted to unlock everything in the beta so I grinded for another 4-5 hours.

I'm not doubting that the extra contents wot be fun. I just think the gameplay isn't all that cracked up to be after all the hype.

I think 2014 will be the year I'll go without playing another shooter. Unless Destiny really surprise me.

That's fair.

This pretty much somes up my take right now. Too many other good games coming out this year. I have an amazon preorder in for destiny so I can play the beta but my suspicion is I will cancel it unless it pleasantly surprises.

That's fair.

Now I do hope that Titanfall prove me wrong and to be more than just what we have seen in the beta. I would gladly pay to play it, but as of right now. I don't see it being worth $60 on day one.

On another note. Is this game running on source engine? I have a brand new computer I built barely 6 months ago. And it's kinda choppy with everything maxed out. I have good PC parts too, I can run almost every other game flawlessly on 1080p.

I feel like this game is a bit unoptimized.

Destiny will be my go to co-op game.

Titanfall for my competitive fix.

Best thing about Titanfall is the fact I can use a 360 controller and still come out first on the team tables!

Titanfall is a very cool game, very fast paced. I am not the shooter guy and after playing up to level 10 I can fairly say that the games brings a fresh feeling into the FPS genre. Nothing more and nothing less.

Yeah, I got Infamous, Final Fantasy XV, Watch Dogs, Dying Lights, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, Thief, Persona 5, Destiny, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD to look forward to.

And those are just the one I can remember on the spot, I'm sure there are many more I'm excited for that I missed.

After playing shooter after shooter for so many years, I'm really burnt out of it. Now Destiny look like it might finally be different. They promised us a living world you can play in where things changes constantly. Now whether they live up to it will be another thing. But if they do, then THAT will be revolutionary.

All Titanfall got to say for itself is.. We took CoD, but we added Mechs, and better movement. Destiny look like it's combining two of my favorite shooters into one. Borderlands and Halo, with a sprinkle of CoD and RPG on top.

It is good MP game. lots of depth with easy controls/mechanics.

I am just not into these types of games though so I will pass.

From what I've heard, you can't use Xbone controller for Titanfall PC yet? But using a third party program I was able to use my Dualshock 4.

Come on, Microsoft is slacking. Lol

Oh and did Bungie say you can do PvP in Destiny? Or competitive multiplayer like CoD?

If so, that mean we would have an open loving world story mode, and also multiplayer mode. That would be so awesome. Catering to both the RPG shooter people and your typical dudebros CoD players.

They've said there's some PvP aspect but they've been incredibly vague about what that game actually is.

I played it on the XO, it felt like a more polished COD with Mechs and terrible AI partners

pretty much this. It's a better CoD because of the traversal and mechs, but overall it's still 'tag, you're it' gameplay with unnecessary AI that clutter up the battlefield with distractions.

i'll still get it to play with friends though

Seems a bit harsh considering Nothing else is like it. Sure you run around with a gun and shoot stuff, yet the titan stuff is great and the level design is so perfect for both titans and of foot players. Not to mention it has jump jets and wall running to add another layer of level design. I am still finding hiding spots after 6 hours of play.

I think another question to ask is, do you think it was worth it for MS to pay up for exclusivity? or would the funds spent on this be better used to develop a new IP/game?

I played an hour or two and enjoyed it enough. Doubt I'll pick it up though, after several rounds of hardpoint it made me want to go play BF4 instead, you really start to notice how few players there are and it's less fun for me. I'm a pretty casual online FPS fan though.

I think it'll be very successful, and while it's likely barely cheaper to buy exclusivity from EA than making a new team it's more important to MS get get a game now. I do bet MS would love nothing more than to kill the 360 version if they could, but that would have been too expensive because I'm sure EA will sell far more copies on the 360 than the other versions combined.

I'm not sure this game will be a huge seller of XBO's but every bit helps.

The game is aight. I'm glad I got into the beta, pretty much seals the deal that I won't purchasing it. Personally, Blacklight Retribution's mech combat is much more satisfying, challenging, and risky.

True or False
Blacklight Retribution is to 08th MS Team as Titanfall is to Michael Bay's Transformers

I concur. The AI Grunts feel like cardboard placeholders for actual players that will never come to be.

"playing" dumb? unpossible
Wait, the game has A.i players running around even after the full player count is met? Does killing an A.I net the same points as a normal human controlled player?

im sure MS would have loved to axe the 360 and PC versions but there's no way EA would go for that. EA wants to sell copies of the game and MS wants to sell XB1's.

It's a very, very cool game for sure. Wall-running feels great and the Titan's feel cool without being overpowered. I'm honestly not too sure if I could call it revolutionary though, and I don't see people flocking to the game from Call of Duty. It just feels like it's missing something I can't put my finger on. It might be that the maps feel a little too small. Double the map size and double the playercount and the gameplay might feel a bit less restrictive.

Maybe when the content from the entire game is in play, it might work together much better. It's difficult to judge an online multiplayer game when no content from Level 14+ is being used.

The game satisfied my hype level which I had before the beta. The game is THAT smooth. Will be purchasing day one on pc.

ITs really fun, but it also doesnt meet up to the hype set by the press. Fun game but not a game changer. Might pick it up when it drops in price a bit.

The ai grunts are not player-replacing bots and killing them is tracked both tracked separately and worth less points

What change were you hoping for? I actually want to know.
Personally from what I have played I thought the movement would feel very different I found it to be so far, the sum of its parts cod + wall running double jumps and robots. Disclaimer iv played about ten minutes.
