OPM UK hinting at something really, really big.. [Up: Earth shattering game revealed]

Does OPM have a history of knowing titles before they're announced? How many people are actually subbed to OPM?

Yes, as mentioned earlier they were teasing Black Ops ahead of its official announcements. Something to note is that they aren't teasing this as being an exclusive to the mag. So, it's likely a big enough announcement that it's able to grab the cover of multiple magazines.

So it has to be a game that is:
-The part of a series
-Not from Sony
-It has already been rumored to be coming or at least was wished by the PS community but never got released
-It's not a port
-It's a pretty hig frnchise, or at least a very well known one

Did I leave out anything?

These are the facts we have so far and according to them, my tips are the following:

A Tekken game or a new Left 4 dead.

L4D was kinda rumored by that leaked document about source2, plus it was never repeased on a Sony platform.

I'm pretty sure Harada (the Tekken series director) said that there wouldn't be any new Tekken games announced this year. I might be misremembering what I read though.

I hadn't read through the thread, but I appreciate the response. This makes me a bit more optimistic about something coming from the magazine.

Yes you left out "one of the most exciting cover in OPM history".

I love both Tekken and L4D but I don't think either of them would qualify.

Yeah, I kina agree. But thatmeans I'm out of ideas which is both annoying and exciting at the same time.

The hallmark franchises that are of massive significance on the Playstation 1/2/3 were the following:

Crash
Jak & Daxter
Spyro
Sly Cooper
Twisted Metal
God of War
Wathawk
Killzone
Uncharted
Syphon Filter
Little Big Planet
Resistance
Tekken
Resident Evil
Final Fantasy
Metal Gear Solid
Grand Theft Auto
Ridge Racer
Battle Arena Toshinden

If it's not from Sony that rules out the following:
Jak & Daxter
Sly Cooper
Twisted Metal
God of War
Wathawk
Killzone
Uncharted
Syphon Filter
Little Big Planet
Resistance

If it's not a port it rules out the following:
Resident Evil
Final Fantasy
Grand Theft Auto

So we are left with:
Crash
Spyro
Ridge Racer
Battle Arena Toshinden
Tekken

Obviously this is all meaningless if Sony is funding development of Crash Game by Activision. Or some GTA spin-off.
IT'S RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Believe.

Yeah, no. I wouldn't want that. lol

Isn't the embargo on Batman expiring mid-March or so?

It's GTA V.

- it belongs to a franchise of massive significance
- it's never been confirmed for PS4
- it will be in 1080p@60FPS
- you will double dip

It's not Shenmue, I'm pretty sure of it.

Yeah that's what I thought, but that wouldn't make it the "most exciting cover in OPM history". The game is already out, was reviewed and it sold like crazy. It's cool, but nothing that they would be so excited to have as a cover.

Or this is simply hyperbole and it ends up being GTA V. lol

No, Gears is owned by Microsoft.

I don't like the teasing between now and March 17th because it could just drag on and on and then be nothing.

Bingo. There are wayy too many possibilities and it just feels to me like it will be either expected or unwanted (PS3 port or something safe like Doom 4).

This is what I'm afraid of. I havn't even played GTA V and I will be severely disappointed if it is.

What if it was exclusive to PS4? (Which won't happen... :p)

I'm betting it's Crash.

It's not Crash. It's not J&D. It's not Shenmue. It's none of your treasured childhood memories.

None of those fits "series of massive significance" description, in 2014.

Me, I'd kill for a new Onimusha or Demon's Souls 2. Unfortunately we won't get those either.

They're just doing that to hype up this flat nothing announcement though. It's probably going to be Rocksteady's next Batman game that'll be all over the internet a few days beforehand and, while solid, isn't really going to rock anyone's world.

The Last Guardian. I know that most people throw that out like FF7 remake or something, but hear me out. I haven't read the entire thread, so I don't know if anyone's made a real case for it. But to me its the perfect fit.

Let's take your requirements, just cause its the latest argument.

-part of a series - Many people see Ico and Shadow of the Colossus as a series, even though neither game is directly related to each other. There's a reason why the game was dubbed Trico...its the 3rd in the series.

- rumored / wished by the community - we all know the story...it was shown, and it went on nearly a decade hiatus. Everybody wants it, but its been so long folks think it doesn't exist...even when Sony clearly says it exists. How many times has the community made an outcry for it...how many times do they have to field those questions.

- its not a port - it qualifies cause technically it never released on the PS3 platform. We all suspect the project has migrated to the PS4. No one at Sony denies it, and its been alluded to in interviews. No one's going to put a port on their cover.

- its a big franchise or well known - speaks for itself. its infamous because of the teams' credibility and its absence.

- not from Sony - not really sure why this has to be...but while the team is part of the Sony, Ueda is not...he's contracting.

Now look at the hints from OPM.

"Why is this a down?" - The Last Guardian trailer began with a feather softly floating to the ground. Feather = down. Who uses 'down' like that in a sentence anyway.

Another thing to think about is that while TLG was announced and shown...no one really knows what the gameplay is like. As far as I know, it never really graced any magazine covers. Its the perfect time to reintroduce the game. You don't really need to unveil it at E3, you've done that already. You feature it in a mag article...let people ogle over the pictures and preview accounts...then show the game in action at E3.

They're only going to show the game when its a guarantee of its release and that release is only a few months away. If I'm right and its shown...it'll be this year. Course Sony's always good for a March surprise lol. There's no series that released in the PS3 generation that would garner lines like the 'most exciting in OPM history.' There's only a handful of teams that rile up the media like that...

I haven't read the full issue myself but it looked as though it was on some page with a meter or something, with the "reveal" being put at the bottom, hence why it was called a "down". Maybe someone who is more familiar with OPM can correct me if I'm wrong.

I really don't think something as massive as TLG is going to be put in OPM, that's reserved for E3 or TGS maybe.

As much as I think it has a good chance of being TLG... this is the precise moment where I thought your post went crazy. :p

They're not.

I really don't get what's so difficult to understand about this.

OPM will be able to show it next issue , they in no way claim it's their reveal or any exclusivity. Whatever the game is it has an embargo that drops between today and the next issues date.

I've not seen it for years but it's that sort of thing.
