The Black Culture Thread |OT6| Monica Enjoys Being Black

I only really started rating Leo as an actor after his performance in The Departed. Up until then, i couldn't stand him and actively avoided movies he was in (yeah, that deep)

I really hope with this thread
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=778172

and the Thief performance issues, all this resolution craziness can stop on gaming side. Its such a stupid thing to get so worked up over.

Don't even get me started on GAF and this shit. Seriously.

This is pretty damning. Guerrilla needs to make a statement. I wonder if people will lose their jobs over this.

Django was the bad guy performance, and another guy from the movie ended up winning.

Usually I just feel Leo's trying too hard to be taken seriously. That's why I thought Wolf was his best performance since Catch Me If You Can, because it perfectly plays into that "kid trying to behave like a man" thing I always see him as, and it allows him to break loose with his fantastic physical comedy and charm, instead of being deadly serious.

One day, my friend. One day.

You may think that but he was in the bucket and did what he had to do to get out.

All I saw was a person with a habit living the American dream

Dude wasn't in a bucket at the beginning of the movie. He just wasn't rolling in money but he was even close to struggling.

And he also screwed over a ton of people in the process/taking tons of people's money. Although that wasn't portrayed in the movie since it was from the scammer's perspective.

You do realize this is based on his book, not a work of fiction. Your making the same mistake he did wanting the damn facts to be rewritten.

My problem isn't with the facts, it's Pitt in the role

His appearance and his performance just completely pulled me out of the movie

12 Years is a great movie and deserves Best Picture, but as a Brad Pitt fan, they may be the worst role I've ever seen from him. His one-dimensional White Jesus role and performance are completely outclassed by the multi-faceted Fassbender and Ejiofor that he shares the screen with.

I was reffering to his overall veiw on the film he was saying he didnt like the movie because of the way he got out of slavery, and was comparing it to a work of fiction that he liked better.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightjohn

and this is how he broke down the film

Some shit where it's all about keep your head low, ignore the man next to you, be better than everyone else, be emasculated, please who you gotta please to survive, then when you make it to the top, try not to forget the little people who didn't have the same opportunities as you. Do NOT make this messaging the shit that Brad Pitt and numerous Hollywood heavyweights co-sign as oscar bait.

If you want to stand with that..................ok

Yo

You didn't post that lol

I didn't read his other posts. I was just saying that if his problem began and ended with pitt's performance and role I can understand that

I don't know what the Fuck he's getting at with that quote

The role had literally no depth to it. Nothing much anyone could do with it.

Not cosigning the post being referenced, but Steve McQueen did "add" some things into the film/alter some things:

I agreed with you on Pitt. Dude just "can't" play a bad guy. Sadly if he didn't put himself in the movie, it probably wouldn't have gotten promoted at all in some countries:

Which is why it was so fucking weird that brad Pitt cast himself for the role

It just came off as some vanity shit to me. Not like it was a good role. He's just literally the only good white person in the movie. "i'll do that one"

I never claimed it was a documentary, but even going through all of that his argument of how Solomon got free being bullshit is crazy.

Im sure many people would say the way Inglorious Bastards ended was a more satisfying way of portraying the end of Hitler but you would have to be on some shit to say a movie like Downfall was offensive because Hitler didn't catch 100 rounds to the face at the end.

He didn't even see 12 Years.

He saw a completely different version of the film and assumed it would be the same thing which already makes me discredit his opinion because you can't judge a movie from trailers/without seeing it yourself.

But, I haven't seen any other version besides the one we're talking about, so maybe the version he saw wasn't good. But we all agree his opinions do not fit the Steve McQueen film and yes, are crazy if applied to this film.

There was a made for TV version that was directed by Gordon Parks and starring Avery Brooks that aired on PBS in the early 80s. It was actually pretty decent though, so I'm not sure what he's talking about either way Lol.

He doesn't like that the movie wasn't this

I'm 3 deep on True Detective. Matthew Mcconaughey's character got people shook left and right. I won't be surprised if he picks up the Emmy to go along with the Oscar.

Woody has some good lines, too.

"You don't mow another man's lawn, Rust"

I remember you guys talking about the girl, but I somehow forgot about it.

That scene......

Did any of you guys ever watch The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete? It has a few issues, particularly Jordin Spark's acting and her character in general, but it's a damn good coming of age story. Hopefully Skylan Brooks has a future ahead of him, because the kid put in work for this role. I came away impressed.

Anyone have a Windows 8.1 tablet?
I picked up the Dell Venue 8 and so far I am enjoying it a lot more than my iPad.

The app store is threadbare though but it's full windows so the x86 applications kind of make up for it but they can be a pain in the ass to use.

I do like being able to use my samsung tv as an external display.
