knack is a joke, driveclub is a generic racing sim, and we just went over the order 1886

What about Hohokum, Helldivers, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and Rime?

Of the 7 Sony developed games that have been announced 3 are new IPs (Driveclub, The Order and Knack) and of the 5 Sony published games announced 4 are new IPs.

You said that Sony was no longer interested in having their teams focus on new IPs and you where presented with evidence from several users that contradicts that. You're just moving goal posts now.
Exactly just because a new ip doesn't appeal to you doesn't change the fact that it is a new a ip.

Please tell me what new IP you are looking forward to.

Let me break it down for you in the first year of PS2 we got the following published by Sony:

AirBlade
ATV Offroad Fury
The Bouncer
Dark Cloud
Dropship: United Peace Force
Extermination
Formula One 2001
Frequency
Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec
ICO
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
Kinetica (North America only)
Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil (Namco co-published)
Mister Mosquito (Japan only)
Moto Gp (Namco co-publish)
Okage: Shadow King (NTSC and Japan only)
PaRappa the Rapper 2
Time Crisis 2 (Namco co-published)
This is Soccer 2002
Twisted Metal: Black
WRC

First year of PS3 we got the following published by Sony:

The Eye of Judgment
Folklore
Formula One Championship Edition
Heavenly Sword
Lair
MLB 07: The Show
MotorStorm
NBA 08
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
SingStar
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Warhawk
Calling All Cars!
Everyday Shooter
Go! Sports Ski
flow
Go! Puzzle
High Velocity Bowling
LocoRoco Cocoreccho
Pain (Blu-ray disc in PAL)
PixelJunk Racers
Piyotama
Snakeball
Super Rub 'a' Dub
Super Stardust HD
Toy Home

PS4 first year so far:

Killzone: Shadow Fall
Knack
DriveClub
Infamous: Second Son
MLB 14: The Show
The Order: 1886
Uncharted 4

As you can see by the bolded PS4 turned into sequel city. Where is the fresh stuff like Crash Bandicoot, Jet Moto, medieval, ICO, Parappa the Rapper, Dark Cloud, Jak & Daxter, etc. etc.???????

Uncharted games have something that TLOU doesn't...charm.

I was all go for a day one prior to all this hoopla. Now I'm going to see how this plays out and probably wait for reviews before I take the day one plunge.

Yup. The Last of Us was a forced melodramatic experience with well crafted production values for me. At one point I thought the dialogue was pure sarcasm because holy crap was Drukmann trying hard to be the most serious thing to ever grace gaming.

Uncharted is full of charm, personality and charisma. It doesn't try to be the most serious game in the history of the universe and that's why I would even take Uncharted Fight For Fortune over TLOU any day of the week.

I understand what you mean. It's just, I have a certain expectation for an Uncharted game. IMO this is a red flag for any fan of the series.

I never said I wasn't buying the game. If it's good, I'm buying it. I said I'd be more keen to watch for reviews as opposed to rushing out to the stores in blind faith to make the purchase.

Hopefully, Amy's work still is evident enough to keep the fundamentals intact.

I mean realistically it has to right? Or it'd be a new IP.

The foundation is already laid.

Great you pulled a list now how about naming the games that were actually good and the ones that were bad it's real easy to bust out that many games in a year but if the majority of them don't sell and and are crappy games guess what the ones that are really good sell decent are going get sequels plus that list has lair in it, let me repeat myself lair

Why aren't you counting Helldivers, Shadow of the Beast, Everyones Gone to the Rapture, Rime, Hohokum and Planetside 2, all published by Sony and four of which are new IP?

And it's March, three and a half months into the console's lifecycle. We haven't even gotten to the console's first E3 and you're already complaining about lack of new IP.

PS2: Dark Cloud, Jak & Daxter, Ico, Kinetica are the ones I can vouch for

PS3: Uncharted, Warhawk, Folklore, Super Stardust HD, and Calling All Cars were good

On PS4 the 2 big games so far Knack and Killzone(1 of which was a sequel) both sucked and got killed in reviews.

It's simple. Things weren't as risky back then as they are now. Development costs are soaring, and publishers are banking more on established franchises. Not to say that we aren't getting new ips. We are. It's just that publishers are super careful nowadays. Atleast that's how I see it.

...We know almost nothing about two of those games.

By his way of thinking we sure do.

The Evil Within = another survival horror
Sunset Overdrive = another TPS/FPS
Quantum Break = another TPS

It's all been done a hundred times before.

Wowowow, okay your opinion is yours of course but while I agree the dialogue is what drives Uncharted, being a character-driven series it's definitely NOT the plots. UC 1 and UC 2 were okay, mostly because of how stylish they were but in the end they were still just completely cliche, but in UC3 they tried to be subversive and failed when they should've just retained the Indiana Jones vibe. They rely too much on contrivances and silly things to be considered "good plots" in my book.
Yeah, I should have elaborated on that. I think the plots are told well
by video games standards
. There's nothing new or interesting about them though, hence the popcorn summer flick comparison.

Huge loss for Naughty Dog, but I look forward to where she ends up next. One of the very few genuinely talented writers in video games.

Not to mention it's entirely two different things, and none of the Uncharted games have particularly great stories or profound storytelling-- because they don't really need it. They're just fun. Uncharted 3 included. Uncharted 2 did not have some superlative plot, but it did excel at pacing (for the most part). To shit on Uncharted 3's writing but to put 2's on a pedestal makes no fucking sense.

Considering the writing in The Last of Us is miles ahead of anything in the Uncharted 1/2/3, I think they'll be just fine. Like I said a few pages ago the last great thing Hennig wrote was the Reaver series.
They're completely different, I love LoU but I would NOT want Uncharted to go that deep and depressive route. The light-hearted humoristic take on adventure and the chemistry between the lead characters with strong females etc is what makes Uncharted Uncharted, imo. I guess we'll have to see if that is still there with new writers.

To add to this. Uncharted is the equivalent to a summer blockbuster movie that you really enjoy seeing but soon forget.

TLOU is the type of movie that gets nominated for an Oscar.

I get the feeling a lot of you don't actually care about Amy and just want to sling fanboy-ish fud around. I liked what she has done heretofore and I am sure I will like what she does in the future. Same goes for ND. Not too worried about this, but then I have come to terms with the transient nature of all things which could do a lot of you a lot of good.

I think she should do something on a smaller scale or join up with double fine

In a way, I feel like they were already starting to go down more serious paths with UC3. I found it to not have the spark and fun of UC1/2, and instead it felt like they just phoned it in, making Nathan feel guilty about his life choices multiple times, etc. I didn't appreciate them trying to make Elena more 'sexy' either (and Nathan remodeled to look like Gerard Butler). It's like ND missing the point of their own franchise, and is part of why it's a distant 3rd for the console versions for me.

Neil was a writer and Bruce a director for Uncharted 2. There's really no reason to suspect that they would change the series' tone.

So much character attacking of Hennig, Straley, and Druckmann in this thread over baseless rumors and speculation. Such a travesty :(

The real disturbing thing is this and how one person is relating this to "Sony makes no new IPs!".

While I'd like to hear about her finding a new studio, and getting back to work, I wouldn't be surprised if ND had a non-compete clause in effect. It could be awhile before she's able to start working in the games industry again. I know that CliffyB and Patrice Desilets had similar clauses in there contracts when they Epic and Ubisoft respectively. I think Patrice's is still in effect until May of this year, not sure about Cliff.

I don't really mind.

The story in Uncharted 3 was ridiculous and her trying to explain the plotholes months after release didn't do her image any good. Not for me anyway.

I wish her the best of luck though.

FlyinJ

Douchebag. Yes, me.

I'm pretty sure those are only binding if you quit yourself, and not if you are fired.

Uncharted 2 was considerably darker than 3 and Drake was a less likeable asshole in that game.

Uncharted 3 was much more somber, and inward looking than Uncharted 2. It's funny seeing all these "I don't want Uncharted 4 to get depressing if Neil and Bruce take over" posts. Did you people play Uncharted 3? That game was already way too introspective for my liking, and for what i think Uncharted should be. UC2 was fairly light and adventurous aside from the bad plot points where ND decided to bring up how much of a killer Nathan Drake is, effectively dooming their own protagonist to incessant criticism.

I'm pretty sure they'll be able to keep Uncharted on track, and if it does get darker, well it was heading in that direction anyway. How much losing Hennig will actually affect this we can't know maybe until Uncharted 5, if there is one.
