Sadly Sony is no longer interested in having their core teams focus on building new IPs. Which is why we have yet another Killzone and Infamous, more uncharted and last of us from ND, and while I can't say for certain I'm pretty damn sure that Sony Santa Monica killed their new IP team so they can put all their energy on God of War 4 (we will get confirmation soon enough on that).

Are you kidding me ? There's nothing "shamelessly pandering" about that.
And the part from Hennig about no games tackling the subjects of camaderie and friendship: that is such a load of horseshit. There are a fuckton of videogames that underline the importance of both friendship and camaderie. On the other hand, how many videogames have you seen in which homosexuality is explored ?
I don't think it's pandering, but I also understand where she is coming from (assuming that's what she really said). It feels like it's a rare thing today, to just show people being close friends. The strength of human relationships outside of romance/sexuality isn't all that common in media (or at least, it seems disproportionate).
I don't agree it's pandering in this case, because of the way it was executed. It would have ONLY felt like pandering if
Ellie acted a certain way in the main plot, and this felt like it was a character reversal. But at least to me, there was nothing in the main story that ever contradicted anything, let a lone touched on that sort of thing.
But again, assuming that this is something she actually said behind the scenes, I can understand how she would feel that the STORY of Last of Us (and the characters) were about one thing, and the r
omantic aspect in the DLC doesn't really fit in with the narrative/themes of the game. Or rather, it wasn't a theme in the main story, and so it feels tacked on in the DLC.

This really isn't true. Guerilla for instance just confirmed that their two teams aren't working on a new Killzone now that ShadowFall is done. And Naughty Dog has said taht a TloU sequel might not even happen as they are towing around with their TloU team making another new IP.
I'm not sure where you're getting your thinking from but Sony is very pro new IP.
How does every subject has to be turned into something about a minority? I played the DLC and it was fine, I'm sure that had nothing to do with whit why Amy Hennig left.
I actually think that labeling Elie as a gay character is a mistake, not that it matters
Uncharted is very well written, it is not supposed to have the most innovative plot, it succeeds to do what it was trying to do with excellency, it has great charismatic characters that are the foundation of the series. It actually managed to be more successful today than the actual Indiana Jones franchise is, and even Tomb Raider had to adapt itself to be more like Uncharted.
Its not perfect but the shortcomings come mostly from the gameplay aspects, where Amy had probably little control over. Even the infamous talk of Drake as a mass murder comes from the gameplay, that relies excessively on fodder enemies that pose no challenge (TLoU suffers from it even tho it tries harder to move away from it and even addresses it in the story).
If I'm correct she had to write Uncharted 3 script around set-pieces that were thought out by the level designers.
TLoU benefits a lot from being released after Uncharted and you can't just compare the games in an attempt to diminish what Amy Henning has achieved.

SSM's new IP got cancelled because it wasn't working out. They already had a GoW game in the works. The decisions were mutually exclusive.
The new IPs will likely start coming once the gen picks up. It makes more sense to have teams get their engines up and running with an IP they're familiar with and to allow the user base for the console to build up. DriveClub and Knack are new IPs, GG is already working on a new IP, and they're publishing The Order 1886, also a new IP. ND even said they're toying around with a new IP instead of TLoU2.
I noted this last night after seeing a ton of posts in this thread but I am now seeing many people across the internet try to downplay Amy Hennig as "just a writer" and also trying to distance her from Uncharted 2.
I am also seeing people refer to Uncharted 1 and 3 as terrible games while Uncharted 2 and TLOU are excellent masterpieces because Amy Hennig didn't work on those two games. I am so confused.
No, it wasn't confirmed. Some people made up what they wanted to believe and ran with it stating it as a fact.
People here should learn how to separate opinions from facts. This is a website where people are suppose to be more informed than the average gamer, so when someone makes claims like that, people will eventually pick it up. You can't blame them either, considering this is the central gaming forum.
I wish providing a source was required so these made up "facts" wouldn't spread across the forum.
Things like inFamous being "delayed" from a launch title to launch window started here.
EDIT: I was referring to the new SSM IP being canceled for another GOW.

Curious, did anyone leave Naughty Dog after they stopped doing cartoon games and strictly did more realistic games? If I couldn't do a mix of both I'd probably move on myself.
They certainly used to be but now i'm not so sure. Outside of The order 1886 (which feels very derivative of games we've seen a hundred times) and Knack its been sequel city at Sony.
Naughty Dog's first game for a new playstation platform was always a new IP but this time its a 4th entry in the tired Uncharted series. Sucker Punch did the Sly series on PS2 then did the Infamous series on PS3 but instead of doing another IP they are doing another Infamous game.

ND released a new IP last year instead of releasing a fourth Uncharted on PS3. They made 4 Crash games, 4 Jak games, and now they're working on a 4th Uncharted, just this one happens to be on PS4. SP also made two inFamous games last gen and they made 3 Sly games.

I'm not into misinformation but I'm pretty sure it is confirmed that the team that was laid off was working on a new IP that has been cancelled. We don't know what the other big project is but it's more than likely (and I personally believe it to be) another God of War entry. Obviously nobody can say what the other IP is until either A)something leaks or B)It gets unveiled.
if that 4chan post is at all accurate then that's pretty stupid, she obviously has no problems with all of her male-female character relationships being romantic rather than platonic

It may have similar or even the same mechanics as other games but there is more to a game than that. But I wouldn't expect someone who wants Uncharted killed off for Crash fucking Bandicoot to understand lol.

I completely disagree. There are so many games that explore friendship. Probably even more than games exploring romance. The Gears of War games, Bad Company, Ratchet & Clank, every RPG ever; and then in movies you have every comedy Hollywood has produced, buddy cop films, even dramas such as 50/50; and then there are comic books...
Really, friendship is omnipresent in media. This might be the reason why some people don't notice it and think it's absent, but it's not. It's everywhere.
I don't mean to question you, but if that was posted a week before she was fired, that person had to have known something... I mean who the hell just starts a random rumor like that? I'm not saying it's necassarily that, maybe it was an insider who knew there was tension and made a false story.
Dont believe that random post, but it doesn't look like an amicable split. She didn't shout out ND on her twitter, no statement, and that sony PR is so formal.
Its not like I'm making a leap either, this is based on the only source of info we have- the IGN report, which got the scoop.
Uncharted games have something that TLOU doesn't...charm.
I was all go for a day one prior to all this hoopla. Now I'm going to see how this plays out and probably wait for reviews before I take the day one plunge.
I never get people like you. She only singlehandedly wrote Uncharted 3. Which IMO was the worst of the 3 story wise. All the people who were deeply involved are still there.
TLOU not having charm is also laughable. You could connect with the characters and they were memorable.

Mind you, I don't know anything (most of us don't) about what transpired here. And there may be something to that post (after all, I can't disprove it). But since I wasn't introduced to drama related to rumors yesterday, my assumption would be that at a bare minimum, there's probably some sensationalist fiction sprinkled in there. Personally, I'd let things play out a little more before running with the notion that a post on 4chan should be taken as fact that needs to be debunked.

Apparently that 4chan post was fake. But on your topic, I think the guy you were talking to was referring to opposite sex platonic friendship. It is rarer than same sex plutonic friendship.
I'm OK with this Druckmann is the man at Naughty Dog, he should be who guides where they go creatvely withe their IPs. He made the Last Of Us, he has my confidence. Henning was behind UC3, and from the past comments ive read on Gaf everyone thinks that games forgetable, at best. I surprised at the outrage actually.

I just gave you examples of Sony pushing new IP, I'd hardly consider Sucker Punch or Guerilla not leading with new IP to be an issue the studios are litterally now able to have twice the ouput over previous generations.
