Xbox One headsets/headphones

I was heavily considering the Polk 4 Shot just because they're Polk, an actual speaker company but the retractable mic (instead of a boom mic) I'm not so sure about. Also, Polk themselves say the mic ONLY works on XB1 and iOS devices, what's that about?

I want something that will work on XB1 and PC fully with minimal amount of cables.

So now I'm considering the Turtle Beach Atlas (the Titanfall ones). Apparently they're the same speakers as their XO Four and XO Seven. It's basically a modified XO Four, but unlike the XO Four and XO Seven, the Atlas will work on PC for game sound and voice chat. It's the only XB1 headset that is equipped to work fully on PC outta the box. It comes with a breakaway USB to PC cable with an in-line amplifier and separate game sound/voice out volume controls. The XO Four and Seven do not have this USB w/amplifier option.

I also like that they look slightly less bulky than the XO Four but that could just be the color scheme.

Anyone else getting these?

I picked up the Microsoft headset today and played some KI and watched Netflix with them. Got a lot of clicking sounds with KI, especially outside the fights in the menus. Maybe its a KI issue? Netflix seemed better, but I wouldn't put them up there with my Tritton 720's.

I've also got the Sony Gold's and I'll see how they are with the headset adapter tomorrow.

Thinking of going from Astros to those polks. Do we know if the adapter/controller is gonna give 5.1?

Only outputs stereo from the controller using the adapter. MS said they wanted to focus on better quality stereo sound than lesser quality surround sound but surround sound could be updated down the line, possibly. It would just require a software update only.

Whitten or Penello (can't remember) said that it's possibility in a future update. For now, though, you'll have to wire up optical out to your DD headphone mixer/amp and then to the headset for surround/virtual surround. The Polks sound great...wide feeling sound and a good, comfortable fit. Still waiting for Polk to say something about sending those X1 mixer adapters, but once they ship, these Melees I got seem like they'll work exactly like the 4 Shot.

Does anyone with the Melees have issues with chat clarity and volume level?

I had read some complaints, and now there are people on Amazon and other game forums complaining about it with the 4Shots.

As an alternative, I plugged my a40s into the headset adapter yesterday, and it sounded OK, but the bass while I played Forza seemed pretty weak compared to my old wireless mixamp.

Poop. Looks like my Polks aren't going to be delivered today even though I was assured by MS that it would be, kinda makes that free overnight delivery not mean much.

Would like to hear your feedback on the Gold's. Waiting a week or 2 to see how all the new headsets pan out before I pull the trigger on one.

Yeah I ended up ordering the black 4 Shot last month but Amazon has it back ordered right now. They upgraded my shipping to overnight when they do send it out, so that 's kinda cool.

I was thinking about picking up the MS headset today. Are they freely available in stores yet? If so, do they come with an adapter and everything I need?

People on the Polk forums are saying this too. Supposedly they sound amazing, but the mic isn't picking up voices very well. I was planning on picking up a pair at gamestop this morning, but now I'm having second thoughts. The lack of info on all these new headsets is sort of troubling. Maybe a legacy headset is the way to go?

The best thing is to never buy a "gaming headset".

Buy a good pair of headphones (you can get advice right here in GAF's headphone thread) and a clip-on mic.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00029MTMQ/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Then you also buy the latest Astro Mixamp and rock shit in quality you have never dreamed of before. Sure it seems like a more expensive investment but at least you get something good for your money.

I would do that, but I really would like to go with a wireless option if possible. I had a wired turtle beach for last gen and it was a pain having a wire going across the room to my console whenever I played. I would be willing to take a slight hit in sound quality for the convenience of wireless, but it seems like most wireless sets have their share of issues too.

Ohhhh that's not good. I'm seeing reviews like that all over the place too. They say the sound quality is good but the mic doesn't pick your voice up well. Might cancel my Amazon order and look at something else.

Damn, I was going to get theses over the weekend, might wait for more impressions to make sure. Kind of disappointing.

I'm going to pick up the adapter in a few. By chance have you updated the firmware in your controller? I thought I'd seen there was an issue with using the headset with the firmware update but I could be wrong.

Well the melee had similar complaints from people so it's not too surprising considering it's the same hardware. It may not be a problem at all for people who speak louder naturally. I tend to be more soft spoken so it is concerning to me.

I recently purchased the wireless gold headset for PS4. If I understood correctly, I will be able to plug in into the adapter for xbox one. But...I will not be able to chat right? I will just hear the game audio then?

Yep, did the controller firmware update with the headset plugged in (as requested in the headset instructions).

From my understanding, as long as the audio and chat are on a single jack, it should work (with a few exceptions). I've been asking in all three threads just to make sure but haven't really been able to get an answer :/ I was going to try to go that same route today.

I'm looking at the titanfall atlas. It works with pc 360 and Xbo out the box. So its the most convenient for me..I just don't like the colors on it and also it's $149.99

I'm going to use my set of these Bitfenix Flo's with the adapter. Not 5.1 but they produce a rich enough sound for me to play with.

Damn, that sucks, can you point me to any of these reviews? I haven't seen any when I search for them.

Check the amazon review page: http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-4S...=dp_db_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

and polk's forum: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/sho...XBOXONE-Comparison-verses-other-HEADSET/page4

Also most reviews of the melee also mentioned this that you have to speak up more loudly than usual.

A polk rep just posted that they are looking into the issue, but I'm not sure what they can really do if it a hardware flaw.

Same here. Searched the whole of the internet, but nobody is able ( for now ) to answer this question. Love the looks of the TB and Polk, but I'm not gonna spend 150$ if I don't need to.

I was disappointed that Gamestop was selling the xbox One stereo adapter for $5 above MSRP.

Me too, I wrote a preview on their website about it, but that never went live. They also sell the official Microsoft Xbox One Stereo Headset at $10 above MSRP. I will be getting my Heaset Adapter from Wal-Mart, literally right next door to my local Gamestop. Screw that, I am not going to support that kind of shady practice.

Observations with the Sony Gold headset:

- XB1 does not care what the buttons on the Gold headset are for - nothing works (including virtual surround).
- the headset adapter controls the volume on the Gold headset and the mic
- XB1 does not care whether you have the Gold headset turned "on" or not - you get audio no matter what.
- the mic on the Gold works - to what quality I can't say ATM, as I only tested it in private chat
- the maximum volume on the Gold is somewhat lower than the Microsoft Stereo headset
- sound quality seems slightly better on the Gold headset - less clicks and pops in KI
- the Gold's have more "bass" and perhaps slightly muffled sound - MS Headset is more treble and sharp sounds

If I can find my Tritton adapter, I'll give those a try sometime.

Guys

I want a headset thats <= $100 for the xbox one, but I'm a noobie and don't know where to look. I just wanna speak through it, get chat audio through it, game audio through it, and speak through it.

Preferably Wireless, (with the connection to the controller of course).

I know about the XO fours, but is there anything better to buy?

Get the official MS stereo headset.

Considering the problems that have been happening with the 4shot since they've come out - These are looking like a really good option.

This review makes them sound like a pretty good deal. Also, they're 1/2 the price of the 4shots.

How long is the cord that would run from the headset to the Xbox controller? Is it about the same length as the cord from the packed in headset with the Xbox One? Also, because of the adapter we should be able to get in-game audio as well as party chat with the BitFenix Flo, correct?

I'm also assuming that it would work with the PS4 by plugging into the PS4 controller the same as it might for the Xbox One controller?

Who knows how durable they are they just came out.

They can't be worse than that Turtle Beach shit though.

While I am sure you are correct in the overall quality of Turtle Beach products compared to others, I tried out my DX11's last night. They work quite well and I am pleased with them, especially seeing that I do not need to spend any more money at the moment. Ironically, however, the DTS/Pro Logic II settings do not seem to work so I am stuck using regular Dolby Digital. Not too bad, honestly, just a tad bit disappointing...

Don't get me wrong. The stuff they sell is not horrible but my god the price they charge for it is criminal. At half the price these are products I would recommend.

My Polk 4shots are already on the truck for delivery but news isn't sounding great on the mic issue. I can't find anyone out there saying anything other than "sound quality is superb but no one can hear me" and you can't fix that.

Pretty disappointed. Gonna take the MS official headset as a consolation prize I guess.

Man, you ain't kidding on the price! I happen to get the DX11's as a gift after my wife saw I gave away my old X41's due to one ear being too low and static issues... Bud was happy to get them, however. Man, just reminds me how much I miss the days of my wife supporting my gaming habits...

I have the Sony MDR-X05 headphones.

I'm getting game audio and chat audio through the headphone, and the game I'm in see me having a chat mic, but the mic does not work.

When I press the buttons on the headphones themselves (not the adapter) it sends a sound.

The headphones are marketed as "Made for iPhone, iPad and iPod".

Any help GAF? These should be working, right?

Just over a meter long for the cable to the controller, and the connector is CTIA compatible which is what the Xbox one adapter uses as an interface so I'd say yes to chat and game audio

Crosspost, but I just scooped these up for the XBox One.

Went to my local Microsoft store and these were the last pair, which seems odd seeing as they released on their online store today.

Amazon hasn't shipped the pair I ordered through them on February 22nd, so I'll be canceling that order now.

I'll give 'em some use tonight and come back with impressions.
