Posts like this are amusing and frustrating in equal measure. There's a third option you know - people want the Xbox One as they are more enticed by its overall lineup. It's almost like you have an inherent bias.
Maybe, but it doesn't change the fact that the PS4 IS still heavily supply constraint and would have sold more.

The would be crazy/great.

I am expecting an increase next month due to both console having big games for this month but I think the Xbox One will outsell the PS4 in the NPD by just a little bit. I'm thinking they will both be over 300K.

I'm in the opposite boat... I thought Xbox One would outsell the PS4 in Feb.... I thought with the supply constraint from the Japanese launch, the update, the Gears of War announcement, Plants vs zombies, and the titanfall beta push... I really thought they could have this month. Next month expect higher supply, two big Ps4 franchises, and PS4 biggest marketing push in ages.

Maybe I am crazy, but if the supply increases...I see this going Sony's way.

The guys sayin "wow great accomplishment Microsoft" dnt u realize being fully stocked and not outselling a supply constrained console is nothing to be proud of?

This is the market they need to run away with, not break even in. NPD sales health for a MS console should be domination over their competitor since their worldwide marketshare outside of the US is usually so much lower.

Breaking even in the NPD is a win for Sony after the marketshare numbers of last gen in NA when you consider that Sony still sold 80 million worldwide after losing big time in NA.

At a $100 dollar price disadvantage, I'm not sure the expectation of "domination" is a realistic expectation for any market, including the US. I would think steadily increasing gains are what Microsoft is looking at.

Really glad MS did well, hopefully shake Sony out of complacency.

This Gen is far from won.

E3 should shed more light on things.

I think march will be really interesting, april who knows...

But in May I think PS4 is gonna be huge, with MLB The Show, better version of Watch Dogs (with exclusive content), and the rumored Destiny beta

I don't think Sony could be happier.

Yeah, this will be an interesting month. If Sony could beat Xbox One during March, the doom and gloom press will spread like wild fire. I wouldn't be suprised if Sony goes full force to make it happen. Isn't GDC soon?

I would go as far as to say that the Xbox One would have won Feb NPD if it wasn't for the Titanfall bundle announcement. People definitely held off on getting one during the last week of February due to it. Microsoft should have held off on the news until the first of the month (haha).

Honestly, both should do well next month. I'm just thinking the Titanfall bundle will help put the Xbox One over the PS4 in sales but only by a little bit (less than 50K).

I don't think 10% have the patience or that well informed to make the difference in short period of time.

My biggest surprise was actually the PS4 shipment being that high.

The times they are a changin'.
Code:
[B]Feb-07	[/B] % total HW
Sony HC 420	23.3
Microsoft HC	230	12.7
Nintendo HC	360	19.9
Sony HH 175	9.7
Nintendo HH	620	34.3
Total 1805
HC % total HW	56.0

Microsoft HC	370	35.6
Nintendo HC	120	11.5

*3DS and PSV, may be slightly under-representative.

Damn, Nintendo collapsed along with the handheld industry.

If MS can't take US and UK by a significant margin its over.

I disagree here. In the US i think the xbone looks to be fine but in Europe they are in trouble despite the PS4 supply issues. If they don't change something Sony will completely dominate that market.

What I meant to say was that Europe is the region in which they especially need to drop the price, but they can hold off from doing that until Sony resolves the supply issues.

They could theoretically try to drop the price in Europe now, and try to establish a foothold while PS4 is supply-constrained, but it would be futile; last gen has showed us that PS4 would catch up in no time, even if Xbox One was significantly cheaper. So for (continental) Europe they have to come up with a wholesome, long-term strategy, and reaping higher margins is preferable at the moment.

Yes dominating everywhere that isn't the US. Definitely complacent.

Perhaps I should have said potential complacency, as someone who is eagerly waiting to get a PS4 I believe had the Sony and MS's situation been reversed we would have a DLNA and a bunch of the features they promised at launch.

But why try when you're in the lead.

"playing" dumb? unpossible

It was announced on the 24th.

Yes, but the bundle released at the same that as the game. So that's what, a 3 week wait if someone was originally going to get one in February for Titanfall? Yeah, I wouldn't have minded.

Anyway, I do know people who held off getting one last month due to the bundle. Just don't know how many people overall did though (obviously).

I think Sony will sell 300k again, cause they are still supply constrained.

If they really can't get more then 1 million units on the shelves ww per month that is.

February console sales: PS4 leads Xbox One again, but Xbox One only 10% behind in units.

Why put qualifiers in fact reporting?

PS4 leads Xbox one, Xbox one 10% behind in units.

Let us decide whether that is 'only' 10% or not.

I don't understand the complaint. Both of the things he stated are facts. If anything the xbone numbers are the more interesting ones considering how badly they got trounced last month.

he's just regurgitating pr, like on the last bonus round saying titanfall is "only on xbox1"

his tweets of this nature sound like headlines

Glad to see Bravely Default on the charts. It's not perfect, but a good start for the series with a lot of great ideas. Pretty crazy that Square was going to be content just leaving it in America, though considering the insane amount of dialogue maybe they just didn't want to spend all that time translating it.

As much as I'd like to say that Sony hardware dominating is great, ensuring a hard lead platform and all, competition gets everyone off their butts. One pain point in particular is that Sony's UI is behind MS's. Media capabilities seem to be lacking too, considering what the PS3 could do.

Important thing is that next gen/this gen is selling well on all sides.

Meh, Lightning Returns should have bombed harder.. with Europe it will be easily 200k+ sales in the west. Square will never learn.

Qualifiers like "but" and "only" are judgemental, it's language a proper journalist only reporting facts would not use.

But it's Keighley, he's usually writing editorials, opinion pieces and marketing so he probably can't divorce himself from this evaluative style of writing.

Pretty sure Sony's ui was designed around 4gb instead of 8gb. Give it time.

Really, I just read that the Xbox one headsets are still not working properly...even in stereo

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/03/13/microsoft-investigating-xbox-one-headset-adapter-issues

Sorry, but 5.1 surround sound and flawless sound stage HAS been a minimum gaming requirement for me for many years on 360 / Ps3 and now PS4....

The fact MS are still working in getting stereo sound right is just mind boggling, who cares about small OS features if graphics and sound are not correct.....?

Comparing PS3 BOL and PS3 EOL their media capabilities are no comparison, I am confident that Sony will get their act together even if it will take too long either way. ;(

And wouldn't NPD February have ended on the 25th? So would be one day of lost sales.
Wait. So March NPD starts on Feb 26? Hmm ... I wonder how many Xbone buyers returned their systems after the Titanfall bundle announcement. It could depress March numbers the way people speculate scalper returns depressed February numbers. Every Xbone purchase in February would be within the 30-day return period at most retailers, when the bundle was announced.

Well PS4 has more media and gaming features than XB1, so not sure what exactly are you talking about.

So while PS4 is gaming focused, it still has better media features than XB1, according to reviews. It also has better gaming features.

Precisely, as things stand the PS4 is not yet the complete package, as of today besides play PS4 games, my PS3 is a more capable machine and sits at the centre of my media hub, can be connected to my external hard drives to access even more media.

I knew DKTF wasn't gonna sell well but this is worse than what I expected. A shame, game is amazing.
Even though its only been out for 1.5 years it seems that Wii U owners forgot that they even have the console.

They both have streaming now with streaming being better on the Xbox One. I think things are pretty much even now in terms of media features outside of Xbox still having apps like Hulu and Netflix behind the paywall (so silly in 2014).

Titianfall is this month's biggest release,it would take quite the effort from Sony to lead Xbone in March IMHO.
