OPM UK hinting at something really, really big.. [Up: Earth shattering game revealed]

I'm not one to defend the gaming press over anything, but some of you really did bring this on yourselves here.

When OPM printed the issue with the little tease, none of us had any clue Arkham Knight even existed. Hard to hold any of this against them tbh.

Running a weeks-old story behind everyone else isn't OPM's fault?

I frickin' knew it, lol

That'll teach people to get hyped for this sort of thing. Big games are basically never revealed this way anyhow.

A 12 page feature should have some juicy info, and it's about one of the few next gen games I care about.
So, all in all, good outcome. Anyone hyping themselves up over stuff like this is insane lol

In the history of megatons I can't recall one that had an announcement, especially not one month prior to reveal.

I don't know why we keep falling for these.

Megatons are dropped, never teased.

OK, so the OPM tease was a little misleading, but really what do you expect from a publication which is essentially part of the Sony hype machine?

Having said that, there's no game on the horizon that I'm more excited about (apart from Destiny) and no game that I'm more confident about neither (including Destiny).

The more column inches the better.

Please note that it wasn't allowed by NDAs to state clearly what it was in the next mont blurb. We had to go around this too.

As a reader, I found a bit disheartening seeing people reduce everything to the title announced but I guess this is were we're going to. Announcement, bullet list of features, next please. And LOL on Batman being described as some second rate series.

No, LOL at it being one of the most exciting covers in OPM's history, or a series of massive significance.

Don't know what to say then.

While I didn't use this kind of hyperbole for the next mont blurb, I can easily concur Batman *is* one of the most significant series of this gen. Aside from imposing itself and the studio to general attention completely out of the blue, and showing other publishers how to work on a comic book property, we're talking about a series that's been getting better from game to game, with its third game seemingly keeping the quality curve up. Hell, even its second rate spin off is a great game. I'm exited as well in seeing one of the first PS4 only games not only showing up in great shape but and saying "hey, this stuff is not 2015, its due in a few months". Wish I could have gone there myself : \

Saddest part in this is with this kind of attitude even Shenmue or Half-Life 3 wouldn't stand a chance.

like online establishments click bait with their titles, print media has to do shit like this to survive

Wouldn't really put these in the same league. Even if it was overhyped as fuck, a mag cover is something you see yourself on the newsstand BEFORE deciding to part with your money, and most of the time you can also go trough the mag pages and see for yourself if it amounts to a 2-page feature or the 12 pages stuff mentioned. If it was the first, yeah, I would say it was basically in the same league as a clickbait.

On the other hand, once a website got your click trough misleading title, you might as well go to hell for what they care. Also, being unable to say anything about it is forced on them by NDA, while a clickbait is simply a choice made for profit.

thats assuming you buy each issue individually, a lot of these places give generous discounts and gifts if you sign up for a regular subscription. something like this could be what pushes someone to finally subscribe.

but yeah clickbaiting is still more annoying

This is why gaming journalists get shit on. So much hyperbole it hurts.
