The Amazing Spider-Man 2 PS4 gameplay

The webslinging looks awesome. The graphics could be better but it looks decent enough for an early cross gen/cross platform game.

It looks fun to play. I want to web swing all day.

If they can get the pop-in sorted it's a purchase for me. Though I'm not as nitpicky with graphics as long as the game is fun.

Ultimate Spiderman is still my favorite Spiderman game.

But this looks pretty fun, the pop-in was really noticeable but otherwise seems decent. Would love to see Sucker Punch's take though.

What is "pop-in"??? Is that some technical slang talk that means something else???

It occurs when you see distant objects suddenly appear as you get closer. It's very noticeable in the video. The web-slinging looks fun, but Infamous definitely spoiled me a bit. The city looks rather bad. Indoors look decent, though.

Look in the beginning of the video when he's web swinging through New York, at the road. You'll see nothing on the entire street, then when he gets a bit closer cars and other objects "pop in" to view. It's like in GTA when you're driving and a tree appears right in front of you out of nowhere.

Honestly, it looks just as good as you'd expect a Spider-Man film game to look. At this point, if you're willing to buy this stuff, you pretty much know what you're getting.

There was a ton of pop-in and clipping. And the enemies were boring and lifeless. The same could be said of the city.

But I will say that I've never seen Spider-Man animate so much like the films in a game before. I was also pleasantly surprised to see a super hero game with costume swaps that didn't have a fucking price tag next to it. I hate that Microsoft helped take that away from us.

I'm gonna buy this game either way, but I just wanted to reiterate on that sprint button and charge jump, sprinting and jumping from rooftop to rooftop was so awesome.

Agreed.

At least they seem to be taking the web swinging more seriously this time, but one question remains: can you grab a traffic light or flagpole and swing around it? This is important.

Yeah this looks all around bad. Would possibly grab a copy at a steep price cut on Steam but the first game barely ever get discounted so I won't hold my breath.

For you.
That part felt like Spider-Man to me as stealth part has always been a part of the series starting with the original PS1 Spider-Man.

Original PS1 Spider-Man and PS2 Spiderman 2 played nothing like this. The stealth, the takedown system, the "gadgets", the "spider vision"(detective vision), all those straight out of Batman.

I don't get the fuzz about Spiderman 2. Yeah, I used to play it a lot (Gamecube), but Web of Shadows is far superior in every regard (well, maybe besides Spidey's voice actor, his voice grew on me though). Especially the web swinging is, well, the best web swinging in a Spidey game so far. And this new game doesn't appear to kick WoS from its throne. It's a pitty, 'cause a next gen Spidey could be very neat. :/

Nope. I played Web of Shadows for hours. It was incredibly apparent that the webs weren't touching the buildings and looking up at the anchor point confirms that. It didn't have 8 swing speeds, advanced web swinging maneuvers, or glorious physics like Spiderman 2. The game's graphics look unfinished and the voice actor for spiderman is terrible.. The only thing better is maybe the combat system.

EDIT: okay, apparently you can upgrade your speed. I'm not sure to what point cus I uninstalled the damn thing. You can't watch this video and tell me he's not hanging off God's balls though:

Those webs aren't going anywhere close to the buildings.

Web of Shadows felt like it was trying to anchor to buildings but the hit detection was really bad

if memory serves you couldn't blatantly swing from the air if you jumped around in an area without buildings

If you stood on top of a building with another one below it you couldn't web swing, it used invisible ceilings for where the web would anchor to. I believe this is the first game since Spider-Man 3 that will use the buildings as anchors.

Yes, there will be collectibles in the game. Comic Pages are back, as well as Unlockable Comics. There will be Audio Logs and Tech Bits as well (used to upgrade your arsenal). Also, random crimes will continue to occur when you are done with the main adventure. The game does support Vita Remote Play as well.

There will be 13 costumes that can be unlocked through the course of the game. 6 costumes will be available as gift with purchase and/or downloadable content.

Looks like more of the same albeit with better swinging mechanics. And no doubt this is a last gen game. Hopefully the next Spidey title is developed for new gen systems.

What I find funny about the web swinging is that they just went back to SM2's model from ten years ago. I applaud them for that, for sure, but I need more to get me to pay $60 for it.

I think you're right, if you didn't enjoy the first one than improved web swinging isn't enough to make people buy this.

I gotta say after watching this and Escapist's preview I'm more excited about this.

As long as the pop in isn't like Buildings themselves I'm good. Also it's sounding like a great improvement over the first one. I like that there will be less or maybe none of the linear levels from the first one, and have a bigger focus on some bigger places you can sneak or rush in.

Of course there will probably be some linear levels but as long as they aren't as annoying as the laboratory place in the first one that sounds good. You basically had to fight a lot and stealth was too hard to do. And it seems there making the stealth pretty much like the Noir one from Shattered Dimensions so that sounds better.

I'll probably end up getting this day one since not too much else interests me near it's release date. Unless some video pops up that makes it seem horrible I'm looking forward to it.

I just watched the video and was very impressed (and here I was thinking I've become a cynic who didn't like anything new). As they get closer to finishing the game I'm sure it'll get better, too. It looks super fun; I wish I could play it right now!

Edit: Holy crap, this game comes out in less than a month!

I'm glad we're finally back to webbing connecting to objects, but it seems to be a swing-or-can't-swing here mechanic. What was great about Spider-Man 2's web-swinging...10 years ago...was that if you were attached to a building to the right, it would really force your swing arc to veer right. It really felt like you were fighting a centripetal force (I think that's the right force) with every swing. In this game though, Spidey seems to automatically maintain a straight trajectory if he's swinging forward.

The first movie game was surprisingly decent and looked really nice on PC.

I don't quite understand how they've managed to make this sequel look worse graphically. Looks to have minor improvements across the board for gameplay but I'm not sure if that's enough to get me interested after I put in a lot of hours into the original.

It would be embarrassing if they still haven't matched the swing mechanic of Spider-Man 2. It's the #1 request after every game. Nail that and people will buy it. I'm a Spider-Man fan and enjoyed Dimensions quite a bit, but have given up on Activision Spidey games at this point. I'll give it a rent. I'm expecting to be disappointed visually after Infamous SS, and combat-wise after the Arkham games.

The web swinging at the beginning looked really cool!

The rest of the video was alright. This game wasn't even a blip on my radar till I clicked on this thread by accident.

It's a shame everyone has such low expectations for it. Probably just a movie tie-in cash grab, yeah?

:(

Those webs aren't going anywhere close to the buildings.

How much of the video did you watch? He's clearly anchored 90% of the time. Many times you'll see him thrown against the side of a building, because he reached the max length of the line and was whipped around. In WoS, the building you're swinging from definitely has an effect on your trajectory.

Ahhh fuck it, I'm buying it. Been craving a superhero game, and might as well be this one since it looks great. Plus Arkham Knight ain't coming for a while.

If I had to guess, it'd be the fact that they now have two additional platforms to develop for.

Honestly everything about this game sounds good--there's a wide variety of villains, a ton of different costumes, lots of side missions to be done, collectables that may actually be interesting to find, variety of webbing types--all of that sounds pretty neat. It's just the game looks kinda poor, but I can't blame them entirely for that. The game should be based on the comics, not the film.

Nah, I played Web Of Shadows recently. Even when there aren't buildings around you can swing from the ceiling. When there are buildings around, they try to make it look like you're anchored, but your webs are just somewhere near the building. You can also swing around in open fields with short trees.

In Spider-Man 2 your webs 100% always were anchored to an object, you could even look back at the end of the line and see it attached with a web splatter. Go and play Web of Shadows again if you doubt me
