Watch_dogs: Wind, Water, light effects - [PS4 version confirmed]

It's a Ubisoft open-world game, it has nothing going for it in the gameplay department.

Farcry 3 is one of my top 3 games of all time. If the gameplay in Watch Dogs is remotely similar to what was in Farcry 3 than it will keep me occupied for a long time.

Game looks alright, still not convinced hacking will be as fun as they claim.

Why are there extra sky scrappers in Chicago? It has plenty no need for fluff. You better be able to blow up that weird building with the over hang. That would never get built in Chicago.

Nothing impressive, especially after just finishing up infamous ss, and this is PC only graphics? Lol

I'm really not understanding where this "omg nothing can compare to Infamous SS" attitude is coming from.

I don't understand how you think graphics like those found in Infamous are much better than what we are seeing in the Watch Dog video.

Eh..? Seriously? Just about every single aspect of Infamous outside of the dynamic weather looks like a big visual step above Watch Dogs.

There's some sort of placebo effect going on in here. That footage looks the same as the recent console footage.
Yeah, it's nothing astounding.

It's not terrible by any means, but it looks about the same as the recent PS4 trailers. I'm happy in a sense, because I'm no longer tempted to buy the PC version over the PS4 one. Not buying a Ubisoft PC game means I'll have less of a headache to deal with when the game doesn't run properly on my machine.

I am also expecting that Assassin's Creed Unity on PC will look a magnitude better than the console versions...
It won't look magnitudes better but it'll look better. It's not like it's comparing late gen PS3/360 games with the PC version.

So do we know what gameplay is like? As in a story campaign. Seems like all footage is just for the tech and to show off the AI and random street events.

Watch Dog is the only cross gen game I wish wasn't a cross gen game. :( Also to be fair I'm pretty sure the world in WD is bigger than the one in Infamous. The two island in Second Son are on the smallish side.

Rain + reflections = eye gasm. It's pretty much half the reason why Infamous: SS is so widely praised for its visuals. But it's misleading, to be fair. Because minus those two elements no one would give that shot a second glance.

Yeah. That's interesting in itself. When that demo was first shown, people were debating whether it was next-gen or not. It was clearly impressive, but wasn't so impressive that it was immediately obvious. That's why it was being debated.

Of course we know now there have been some downgrades, but people were saying that on these forums even when the second demo was shown. That was also on PC. The thing about the second demo though was that it was at a completely different time of day, (the first demo started at sunset) and completely different weather conditions (wind blowing trees and objects in first demo later raining with reflections). It was very hard really to compare the two demos. The second demo also had vsync off, which is worthy of mention.

I think people remembered the first demo being better than it actually was. That was partly to do with a number of effects going on that made the game look better in general.

Still looks nowhere near as good as when it was revealed.

Also does the water do nothing when boats travel through it? It doesn't seem like it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Watch_Dogs had been PS4/XBO/PC only if it wound up looking pretty close to 2012, just with post process AA instead of TXAA. I guess that's what WD2 is for.

Nope. The character models in Infamous don't look better, rather about on par. The texture resolution and detail isn't better. The geometric detail in the city actually looks lower. Foliage quality looks about on par. There seem to be more NPCs and vehicles in Watch Dogs and their behaviors are more varied. The water looks better in Watch Dogs. They both use screen space reflections for puddles and the like. Watch Dogs uses a global illumination lighting engine with dynamic time of day changes, whereas Infamous uses more baked lighting and has static lighting conditions with no day-night cycle. Most local light sources in Infamous don't even cast shadows, while it seems more light sources cast shadows in Watch Dogs. LOD is more agressive in Infamous Second Son. I could go on and on listing things that Watch Dogs appears to do better than Infamous SS.

Really? The pop-in in infamous is pretty visible and everything in the background is really blurry in infamous. And let's not even talk about the water.

Infamous is pretty but not as almighty as some GAF members make it out to be.

Yep, there's a big difference between cross gen games and next gen only games.

I think people got too hyped and are now disappointed because the entire game isn't composed of rainy nights and big explosions. In my opinion it still looks like the 2012 reveal
on PC

Pre baked lighting? Really?

I agree with this.

When the thread first popped up I couldn't watch cause I was at work, but based on the comments I was really hyped to come home and watch this. When I finally did it was totally underwhelming, as in nothing we hadn't already seen.

The npc's in Watch_Dogs and infamous SS cannot even be compared, this is what is going to make the living world of watchdogs. One npc picked up a coin and put it in his pocket, its those small little things I love about open world games, and their gameplay.

This gif/part in the video reminded me of old video game CG, like something that would play in the opening movie of Civilization or Sim City, especially the compression.

Cue Civ IV theme song. Baba Yetu

It's a shame that people's excitement for Watch Dogs is purely based on graphical quality. Am I the only one still intrigued by the game's premise?

No. The single player seems fine but I'm not thrilled about what I heard how the multiplayer will work.

Sounds like insecurity to me. PC will win always. No need to feel bad about your purchase or passively aggressively downplay the PCs graphical superiority.

That was not my intention. Of course PC is going to look better, but the PS4 team could have put in more effort and added some better effects. Even Assassin's Creed seems to look better on PS4 than this game does.

Regardless, PC version still doesn't look as great as it could.

I love your nope. Your simply incorrect bro, just looking at every video of Watch Dogs shows that Infamous is leagues above it. For you to be so wrong I can only conclude you have never played the game.

This reminds me of all the people trying to pretend Ryse didn't look amazing.

Do people really not know the difference? It's not blur, It's called depth of field (DoF), and it's actually something good.

I try not to limit myself to a single platform. I platinumed (is that even a word?) Infamous SS last week ;)

Very nice ;)
Still going through it. Only game that I think is even remotely close to it visually is Crysis 3 at maxed settings. Even then there are aspects of Infamous that just look more impressive to me.

I agree with the detail and NPC's but Watch Dog's lighting isn't very good. They can't get the ToD colour tones to look good at all

You're talking about contrast and color, not so much the lighting engine itself. Watch Dogs uses global illumination and a deferred engine that supports hundreds of lights. Infamous also supports hundreds of lights, but the difference is, most of those light sources don't cast shadows, whereas Watch Dogs (according to Ubisoft and what I can see in the videos) supports dozens of lights in the same scene that all cast dynamic shadows.

Just admit you have never played Infamous.

It's an Ubi open world game. If there's anything to do besides the monotonous collecting of items, then it'll be a pleasant surprise for a lot of folks. I can't blame people for focusing on graphics since their track record with open world gameplay hasn't been all that amazing.

assassin's creed 2 and far cry 3 were both awesome

It's a Ubisoft game. Given their track record It's incredibly hard to be excited about anything gameplay-related. Especially given how close to Assassin's Creed this looks, considering how Assassin's Creed is arguably one of the dullest, most boring and automated franchises around.

Which of course is the defacto bs response that so few gave when the game was a visual showcase. That's when the hacking concept sounded novel and cool but now that the visual punch isn't there it's all about parroting how the gameplay will be so forgettable how could it compensate

meanwhile over in literally any other ubisoft thread, particularly Assassin's Creed...

Again, stop comparing Watch Dogs to Infamous.

Watch Dogs looks good being a multiplat game.
Infamous SS looks good for the PS4.

Yes both are free roam but shouldn't we be comparing Watch Dogs to AC4?
