DragonForce announced album 6, Maximum Overload, for August 15.

The promo song they released is fucking amazing, and features Matt Heafy of Trivium as a guest artist: Defenders

I also love the album art after the blandfest that was TPW.

Dragonforce is as much of a one-trick pony as it's possible to be, but I usually find myself down for a few spins of their schtick when they're about to release a new album. I liked The Power Within, I'll probably check this out.

the fact he used an anime gif is certified "ignore me" status.

ahahahahahahaha

Obituary is awesome, fuck the haters.

The 3 black cover Darkthrone albums get too much attention, they started getting really good with Ravishing Grimness. That album through Sardonic Wrath are amazing.

Well that's nice. Just belittle me because I like something that you don't like. Seriously, what the hell is your problem?

No harm meant. There's just so much great DM.

Is anyone planning to get Pariah's Child by Sonata Arctica? I was initially hyped for it, but there's something about the mixing of The Wolves Die Young and Cloud Factory that seem somewhat... off.

They said they were going for the cheery attitude of their earlier works, but I never really thought they lost their energy in some of their later works and instead they're going to attempt to intentionally sugar coat the album when it really isn't needed.

i jumped off after Reckoning Night came out. what a drop off in quality compared to Guild and Silence.

I sure would love a chance to work out to that new pilgrim album. Shame I messed up my knee.... first workout when I'm cleared, dammit.

Nah, Anime has some good stuff, although it has a lot of crap.

Now if he used an Elfen Lied gif....

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled as a teenager, our cable provider's limited selection of free on-demand tv was the entertainment I resorted to because the least effort was involved.
Elfen lied was on there. So were a bunch of other things whose names I no longer remember through the painkiller haze.
Turns out anime is capable of getting a hell of a lot worse than elfen lied.

And I say this as someone who watches an anime on purpose once a year or so.

LOL at the Simpson photo.

Alright, forgive me for that. I'm....in an over-reactionary mood today (I admit). My apologies, and all that jazz.

Seriously, I was called, oh, plenty of nasty things today. I won't even get into it here, but it's a lot of bullshit accusation

Darkthrone went through a period of like 5 years of prolific output without even a second of a substandard riff. Every riff is untouchable.

Alle Gegen Alle is just nasty. There are endless bands that have tried to do this sound, and Darkthrone was above the fray.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4Exki3mvgE

Sardonic Wrath represents their vision perfectly. Both of them were so tuned in, they understood exactly what was bullshit, and didn't waste a second on it.

Ravishing Grimness
Plaguewielder
Hate Them (the weakest of the 4, but still stronger than Blaze/Funeral/TH)
Sardonic Wrath

Blaze/Funeral/TH casts too dark of a shadow.

It's cool.

Well... awesome. I'm only familiar with their unholy trinity, plus a few scattered tracks from their recent albums. I've not heard anything from those four that you listed. Hooray, more good Darkthrone is in my future!

Just listened to Defenders. Thought it was pretty damn good. DF is great because their music is always so positive and uplifting when so many artists these days play off of pain or sadness. I enjoy DF for what they are and you can't deny they can play. Wouldn't want them to change much. And yes I've seen them live and they sound fine.

The liner notes of their album Ultra Beatdown I got from the library (I didn't like that album, BTW) crack me up:

(In the "Thank You" portion of the booklet):

"Sam doesn't want to thank anyone because it's gay"

Also, a friend of mine told me that the first Pantera album also contains this:

"thanks ma, pa, Waffle House on HWY 25, Abu at Circle K for keepin' the beer on ice, and a shout-out to Skippy Smith from Miss Collin's 3rd grade class for doing the artwork for our album...yeehaw"

Listening to Tengger Cavalry's Ancient Call. I didn't know Chinese folk metal existed. Great stuff.

Darkthrone's most recent album was fucking great. Best thing they've done in a while

Underground Resistance is such a great album, I could not put it down for over a month after it came out. Hearing Leave No Cross Unturned live would be so good, but that is never gonna happen.

This is good stuff. Thanks for sharing. Canada bringing more quality metal ;)

Yesterday was the first day I was able to really roll the windows down in my car and blast away some metal. As much as I like winter, it sure it is great to be able to do that again.

Speaking of Canada and metal, it was -17° C this morning without the windchill. That's just above 0° F. I did not roll down my windows, but I did throw on At the Heart of Winter.

Heh, yeah, there are plenty of applicable metal playlists for conditions like that.

On another note, how the hell did Revocation end up under my radar for so long? Their first album is one of the best Guitar oriented Metal albums I've heard in a long time.

I can't even imagine how you guys have to deal with it. I live in Arizona, and the coldest it usually gets is around 40 degrees.

I actually really enjoy winter, particularly when it's cold enough that it's not some wet shitty mess (e.g., like Toronto). You can always bundle up if it's getting chilly. This year has been particularly brutal, though.

I'm not sure if I want to live in a cold place or not. As you might expect, I'm used to heat, so the cold is, well yeah. However, I've wondered what effects living in such places would have on my mood and well being. Those Scandinavian countries seem to have a certain appeal to me.

I wonder if living in such places has an effect on your music taste. It's kind of hard to get in the mood for Agalloch when you live in a desert.

Though to be fair, plenty of Metal bands have their mood enhanced due to where I live (Sleep, Kyuss, Isis)

vatstep

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
I finally got around to listening to Sunn O))). The vocals on Big Church are great. I don't think I've heard something that manages to sound downright evil like this before.
Try Black One next for an even better example of that; particularly "It Took the Night to Believe". It's probably their most accessible album, too, along with Monoliths & Dimensions.

Good morning, Metal-Gaf!*

*super early edition

good morning indeed. It's 2 here on the west coast, and I have no idea why I'm awake right now lol. Waking up to Bölzer is nice. It got me thinking about other Swiss stuff I listen to. Other than a few key releases by Tom G. Warrior I can't really think of much. There is one band that no one should skip, however, and that band is Coroner. First four LPs are mandatory! Here's one of my favorite tunes by them.

One of my favorite bands. Chuck was way ahead of his time. RIP. A guitarist's guitarist. ^^The reissue cover is better than the original IMO.

The best produced thrash album ever IMO. Dat powah. Every song kills.

Death is my favorite metal band, and I love everything he's ever done, SOP included. Such an inspiration to myself. Powerful music from the beginning of his career to the end.

Neat, I didn't know Bölzer was swiss. I just found out about their EP a week ago, but holy moly is it awesome.

I've heard *of* Coroner, but I haven't listened *to* them before. That track was jammin' though. I'll check out their first LP then when I'm done with this Candlemass album. Thanks for the recommendation brotha!

Working my way through their first album, and this track stood out. This band seems totally kick-ass so far, I'm excited to dig into more of their discography later.

Ang....whaa? That is the last term id use to describe that band.
