They use a live audience.

Same difference. By the time the scene is in the can, the audience has heard the jokes half a dozen times, so how spontaneous can the laughter be be? And don't these shows have people telling the audience how to react anyway?

So just a thread talking about how bad the show is? I'm shocked

The writing and jokes are pretty bad and pander to specific audiences a lot but I still watch it from time to time when there's nothing else on. It doesn't damage your soul and make you a bad person like a lot of people make out

Who are dumb as a door knob and just laugh at anything, since the show is heavily dumbed down for them.

Yep without the forced laugh track the jokes fall flat, doesn't help that they pause to wait for the audience to stop laughing over nothing.
As someone, who's been a part of "live audiences" before, you're (in my experience) usually given visual cues from the set director, when to laugh, and for how long. I mean, you get to enjoy a taping, they give you free stuff/food, so every is very willing to comply, and really yuck it up. I always felt guilty afterwards though, ha.

Because Sheldon is an idiot, hell in the real world he would all alone due his I am superior than you attitude.

I misread Bernadette as Bayonetta.

Dude. Shill out. It's just a TV show. You're entitle to your opinions but you're just taking to a whole new level. You sound like the show somehow personally offended you.

[The live studio audience in my head is always the one from the Fresh Prince]

When I saw some preview screenshots of this episode last night, I knew sooner or later it would be brought up here. It's been an entertaining thread so far.

LOL.
Yep, as someone already said, this is pretty much all TBBT discussions on the internet. So predictable it's funny. Come on GAF, you almost fill up the card! :D

Why do people get so mad about a show featuring fictitious characters? Do you know why these characters are hyperbolic representations of real nerds? Cos real nerds aren't fucking funny cos they whine non stop about the smallest shit like this. If it was realistic it would be depressing as fuck.

Damn this circlejerk of a thread.
You. I like you.

It's a tv show. Don't like? Don't watch
Like anything extremely popular these days....ppl hate. With crazy ratings this show gets somebody's watching, so the vocal minority on here don't really matter

The Zune and Wii joke were perfect.

I think thats the cause of most of the frustration, actually.

I'm sorry, are you from the past?

I recently tried watching IT Crowd for the first time and didn't find it funny at all... Not just because it's an old show but even in retrospect the jokes were bland and obnoxious

So I had tried watching Big Bang Theory before got about 10 episodes in and that stopped the "laugh track" was just too much for me.

Watched this episode, it was solid, but again the "laugh track" works against the episode for me.

So here's the real question, is there any version of the show, where you can disable the audience laughter. Like for instance, a surround sound audio, where the audience laughter is just coming in through certain channels which can be disabled and hence resulting in only audio from the show.

I do find the show funny, but the audience laughing too often gets really annoying.

Ah fuck

I'm going to get a call from my dad tonight asking me about game consoles, aren't I
You're dad's a fan as well? My dad is in his late fifties and this seems like the kind of show he would stay away from, but he watches it regularly for some weird reason. All he watches are sports, and then there's this show. I don't get it

Read about the episode here

This shit is hilarious written out like this. Painful to read almost.
Relevant parts below. I cut out some non video game fluff so things like "Returning to best buy," dont make 100% sense.

Sheldon is squirming while sitting at his computer trying to decide which new video game system to buy, XBOX One or PS4. To assist in his decision making process he learned that it is better to have a full bladder and he has just about reached his limit. Penny comes in very happy with her latest audition and how she can cry on cue turning on the waterworks which causes Sheldon to run for the bathroom.

At dinner, Sheldon can't stop talking to Amy about his video game system conundrum while she just wants him to pass the butter. Sheldon doesn't think Amy is paying enough attention to him so she fakes an interest until she gets so mad that she demands the better. A shocked Sheldon ends up handing her the butter staring at her.

Amy and Sheldon walk into Best Buy ready to purchase a new game system. Sheldon had made a decision, but then reverts back to indecision which disturbs Amy. He talks about the times he was wrong about his decisions about electronic purchases in the past. Amy offers to buy him both systems; however, Sheldon does have the room in his entertainment center. She then tosses a coin for him. Sheldon catches it and calls it a quarter instead of heads or tails again diverting a decision.

Returning to Best Buy, Sheldon is sitting on the floor with Amy leaning against him still worrying about his decision. The manager tells them the store is closed, the cash registers are shut down and that they must leave without buying either system. Amy offers to buy Sheldon dinner to make him feel better, but Sheldon can't decide where to eat and begins crying. Then he finds Amy's quarter.

Finally, Penny is in her dressing room in a bikini being fitted for a pair of monkey hands. The orangutan in the bikini comes in and recognizes Penny. What shocks Penny is that her wrestling companion is going to be Wil Wheaton.

I enjoyed seasons 1-3.

Once the show started focusing on the drama of Leonard and Penny's clusterfuck of a relationship, my interest in the show declined dramatically. Season 4's finale was the nail in the coffin. Terrible episode.

If the show goes back to status of season 2-ish, lemme know and I'll watch it from there... maybe. I pretty much watch the show for Sheldon. Regardless of how you feel about the show, Jim Parsons is a real talent.

A BBT thread on gaf and tons of whining? Shocking.

Its not a laugh track its people laughing. I guess Seinfeld sucked for you as well?

Holy shit, this thread is so typical. How do you guys not get tired of rehashing the same jokes about TBBT being shit over and over again?

For you.

It's people laughing but it's the same shit as a laugh track. They are being told to laugh, those laughs are not spontaneous. Like a laugh track, the directors choose where to use it.

And they use it horribly. Seinfield has laughs when a actual joke has been made. In BBT seems that it's used every other sentence.
