Is it possible to play 2 players local + online? Does the Wii U support functionality like that?
You mean having two players on one console, playing online with up to 10 others?

If so, yes. Heck, even MK Wii did it.

Of course this time they're aiming for 60fps and the screen will be split vertically.

Oh man, beautiful. Haven't been up to date on what the Wii or Wii U are capable of.

Definitely going to pick a Wii U and this up then.

That was awesome on the Wii. Either tag teaming and destroying everybody online or the exact opposite, destroying eachother while there seems to be a race with people from around the world going on.

I think it's time we all TAKE ACTION

We need to get together and kidnap Iwata, Miyamoto and Reggie and demand that Nintendo release Mario Kart 8 early or we'll send them back to Nintendo a piece at a time. This thread is driving me mental, I WANT TO PLAY IT NAO!!!!
Well shibata will be safe so go ahead.

The jump is huge, but is ridiculous to compare it. It's like saying the jump from a PS2 to a PS3 game is way more impressive than a jump from a PS3 to a launch PS4 game, which is like well duh lol. You are going from from low detail in 480p to loads of detail in 1080p.

Wait, Mario Kart is 1080p at 60FPS? Which would not impress me, but it still would be way above my expectations.

Nope, it's 720p native but the vast majority of game journalists can't tell the difference. And why on earth wouldn't 1080p native impress you..? :Oo

I want them to confirm DLC tracks addiotional to the "normal" existing ones.

And since they got remade retro tracks and a backlog of so much games and tracks it would make sense for atleast 4 cups to be bundled in DLC maybe with some battle maps. But please no Characters...

Cup-based 4 tracks bundles for 2.99€ and I'm in.

They'd charge more than that (and rightly so). 6.99-8.99€ would be my guess (and I wouldn't be shocked if they charged more..people would pay it).

Of course there's also a chance they'd give it away for free if they wanted to ensure all users had access to it.

Yes. Not really "supposed to be", either; we do exist. :p
I remember that community thread was part of the reason I made a GAF account. Sadly, six months later when my account was finally approved, the community was dead. Glad it's alive again, I should chime in someday !

I can see them giving free DLC just to start the ball rolling, a few tracks perhaps, and then charging a few quid for the next ones. Wouldn't surprise me if they have free Christmas themed tracks at some point too later this year.

It's so colourful and pretty and has me excited to play it.

I don't understand why the Wii U isn't as popular as the PlayStation 4. Because I'm really enjoying the games that are being made for the Wii U.

I love how Nintendo still make cute, colourful, fun games. And Mario Kart 8 looks like a lot of joy to play. They keep making Mario Kart games more fun than the last ones. And this seems like something I will want to play for hour after hour.

It just seems like every possible piece of the game is filled with complete fun. And I'm so looking forward to it.

Just watched the Moo Moo Meadows Wii / Wi iU comparison on GameXplain and wow, it is incredible how much of an improvement it has gone through.

Nintendo just shot themselves in the foot. I don’t know how much the rest of you know about console wars (I’m an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It’s not like it is on the internet where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in the gaming community, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance. What this means is the gamers, after hearing about this, are not going to want to purchase MK8 for Wii U, nor will they purchase any of Nintendo’s games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Iwata has alienated an entire market with this move. Iwata, publicly apologize and cancel MK8 for Wii U or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Nice one. Felt like deja vu.

Sherbet Land is a pretty disappointing pick, totally forgettable imo.
I would have said the same thing about Moo Moo Meadows (I'd never in a million years have chosen it myself) but frankly I am glad to have witnessed such a transformation. It looks like it will be a blast to play, and beautiful to behold.

Does the game do motion blur of any sort? I can't seem to see any in the trailer, but keep seeing odd hints of it in gameplay clips and gifs.

I'm playing MK7 right now, but had to stop because certain ideas for improvements have sprung to my mind that I would love to see appear in MK 8:

  1. I want a GARAGE for different kart-builds!! (Kart-Driver-Wheel combinations). Having quick-access to different kart-builds would be a godsend.
  2. I want to be able to make my own decals and have individual coloring options for my karts. (This could also be done in the GARAGE)
  3. When joining an online race and waiting in the que while watching the "live-broadcast", I would like to be able to switch between the drivers on my own as well as choose the camera-angle (first person view, television mode, standard 3rd person view).
  4. [Not that neccessary] Saving replays would be great (It would be a good analysing-tool and helpful in increasing one's own skill).

All of this could be managed so nicely on the Gamepad. This needs to happen!

Wild guess time:

The three remaining new tracks are Rainbow Road, Bowser's Castle and Tropical Freeze... and for the next trailer, they'll show the Tropical Freeze course, and reveal Diddy, Dixie, Cranky and/or Funky. The second half of the trailer will be the new Bowser's Castle, wherein they'll reveal Bowser Jr., Birdo, Dry Bones and Dry Bowser. They'll also show bits of N64 Yoshi Valley and GCN Sherbet Land, and the "Speaker" and "8" items will be detailed.

Yeah, there is always a DK track and a snow track or combination of those both...

Mario Kart 64 = DK Jungle Parkway & Sherbet Land
Mario Kart Double Dash = DK Mountain & Sherbet Land
Mario Kart DS = DK Pass
Mario Kart Wii = DK Summit
Mario Kart 7 = DK Jungle & Rosalina's Ice World
Mario Kart 8 = DK Tropical Freeze?

There is also always a retro Bowser Castle track...

Mario Kart DS = GBA Bowser Castle 2
Mario Kart Wii = GBA Bowser Castle 3 & N64 Bowser Castle
Mario Kart 7 = GBA Bowser Castle 1

Unused Bowser Castle tracks:

SNES Bowser Castle 1, 2 & 3
GBA Bowser Castle 4
GCN Bowser Castle
DS Bowser Castle
Wii Bowser Castle
3DS Bowser Castle

They will probably follow the tradition and pick GBA Bowser Castle 4. DS Bowser Castle would be a nice surprise.

Wild guess time:

Star Cup (new tracks 9-12)

Sunshine Airport
Bone Dry Dunes
Dolphin Shoals
Electrodrome

Special Cup (new tracks 13-16)

Cloudtop Cruise
DK Tropical Freeze
Bowser Castle
Rainbow Road

Leaf Cup (retro tracks 9-12)

3DS Piranha Plant Slide
DS Bowser Castle
GCN Sherbet Land (Sunshine Airport departures board destination)
N64 Yoshi Valley (Sunshine Airport departures board destination)

Lightning Cup (retro tracks 13-16)

DS Tick-Tock Clock
Wii Grumble Volcano
3DS Music Park
N64 Rainbow Road

Mario Kart 1-7 tracks & Mario Kart 8 tracks

Yeah, just like they did with SNES Mario Circuit 4.

Not saying it's not possible, but it seems Nintendo is trying to use a varied selection of tracks. They probably realized all those Mario Circuits from SNES and all those Bowser's Castles from GBA look so similar that even with all the enhacements, people would feel they already played those tracks in the past and rightly so, it would be a nice change to use different tracks from those games (see: Donut Plains and GBA Mario Circuit) Both broke the pattern.

I'm expecting Wii Bowser's Castle tho.
It's weird there are only two Wii tracks in the game cosidering it was the last console installment. Plus, we're missing a retro Bowser track..so :)

lol
Dat salt.

Not really... I care very little about the Retro tracks overall. If I want to play specific ones I'll boot up the old games. I just thought it was funny to criticize a decent track while there are tracks like Royal Raceway that literally has basically nothing going on other than a castle in the background and a huge jump that has zero effect on gameplay.
