Whoa. That was a big two hours I missed while I was sleeping. I'm not articulate enough at the moment to properly express my surprise and gratitude and whatever other emotion that is that I'm feeling right now, but just wow. Thanks everyone.
silly thing, but i'd totally back this if there is confirmation of widescreen option.
just a peeve of mine.
No widescreen option, unfortunately. The game is designed with 4:3 in mind, and as you might imagine, increasing the screen real estate like that wouldn't have the best results either visually or in a design sense, especially for a Metroidvania.
Should I start using a word other than that? The question for the ages.
Shame about the low resolution though, it's going to be a little blurry and/or tiny on most monitors. I hope there's a stretch goal for bringing it up to at least 720p or so, something like Valdis Story had which looked really great full screen.
There is, however, a scaling option in the game. Off the top of my head, I think it goes from 1x-4x size. So, the image will be crisp and large, but you're going to have to decide how big you want your pixels to be. I generally play in 3x, although all the footage and gifs that you've seen for the game have been 2x, aka 640x480.
About the whole Metroidvania issue, I don't think I've ever seen anyone who's put as critical an eye to the whole process and nature of one as Alonso. We actually had a really long conversation about the whole thing the other night about the role that the design of the world plays in a Metroidvania. I'm a bit busy to dig the quote up out of Skype right now, but I'll see if I can pull it up later. You'll like it.
Looks good, and I would back it, but my PC really isn't built for gaming whatsoever...any chance this hits consoles (PS4/Wii U/One)?
Should be some solid news on ports including consoles within the next 24 hours. Gotta talk to Alonso and Chucklefish about specifics first. I'd say that things are trending well in regards to some of the consoles/handhelds, but please don't take that as a promise.
Looks great. I do have a question, if you had a moment.
What is the state of the game now? It looks like you have a lot of the work done, including playable segements, which is great. But I'd also like to know with a little more detail how much work is already in the game as to get a better idea of what you are looking to accomplish with KS funds from the game's standpoint. Secondly, will there be a possibility of a video walk-through of a segment?
I guess those are 2 questions, but they are somewhat related. Thanks for taking the time to connect with the community.
The game as it stands now is up and running, completely playable and decently polished for what we have. Much of what remains is pushing out content in the framework that we have. The main issue is that on his own, Alonso, by his own admission, is an incredibly slow developer. Most people would be if they had to handle every bit of this game themselves, I guess.
Something that I'm realizing that we didn't make clear on the Kickstarter under the "Team" section is that Alonso, Jonathan, and myself are the only people actually working on the project right now. The rest are the people that we'll be able to bring on in the event of a successful Kickstarter. So, with their help, we'll be able to speed up all aspects of the development process tremendously, rather than having Alonso slog through development by himself over another 2-4 years.
As for a video walkthrough? Maaaaybe
. I dunno, I'm actually really excited to show off the game, but we've got a busy couple days to make it through first. Possibly during the inevitable trough during the mid-period.
Burt, please avoid reading Kotaku comments for the sake of your mental health >_>
Yeah :/ Fortunately I'm not the kind of guy that gets upset over that sort of stuff, but I just don't get some people. It's all good though, thanks for the concern.
