Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

I've quoted you about this before, but I've still yet to figure out how (if that leak is true) Greninja, Shulk, Palutena, Mega Man, Little Mac, Chrom as newcomers makes a horrible roster. Those are all fantastic additions, and I enjoy the other newcomers as well, even if I'm not super stoked for them. There's yet to be a "bad" newcomer unveiled/rumored.

Not to mention the supposed leaker never claimed there weren't any more newcomers. If we're going to treat his word as gospel, we need to realize that he's had two separate "character dumps." Who knows if there are more.

megaman and little mac( though I don't understand the interest in him, played the game and he does not have much personality) is really the only one that really stands out, rosalina and grenninja was not highly requested at all, wii fit and chorus I have not seen one mention of them before there reveal, don't really see anything interesting chrom brings other then another blue haired guy with a sword( Ik apperances should not matter but 3 little to much). Brawl had bunch of wow characters with meta knight, dedede, diddy, pokemon trainer, wario, pit, and olimer. this roser may have 2 majorly hyped character.

I just don't understand the logic of skipping the 2 most demanded character in smash ridley and rool even a non fan can not deny that ridley is by far the most demanded newcomer in the west. Ik I am a ridley fan but if lets say walugi was the highly demanded one I be upset if he was skipped because even though I hate the guy I want to see the fans get what they want( the only reasion I rooted for little mac to get in . I just feel sakurai throw us little mac to shut us up and focused on Japan wants for the rest. ( Ik there are some fans of shulk and pal but if what i heard is right there twice as popular in japan.)

also about being more characters there is another leak tht says there be 48 characters and 4 cuts and if you subtract 4 from the brawl roster(35)+12 predicted newcomers(47) + mewtwo which would not be leaked by him since he not leaking veterans, the roster ends up with 48. Coincidence? I hope so but I don't think it is it lines up to well.

If the leak is true Smash 4 will have the most new playable series ever. That alone makes me like it pretty good.

EDIT: To make myself clear that means that a series that hasn't had a playable rep before gets one.

Ridley most requested? Maybe jokingly requested. Face it, the most requested characters are Goku and Naruto.

So I went away the night of the direct and just came back - I managed to get a bit of info in, I know about Greninja being playable, Charizard, Yoshi, Sheik and ZSS returning (no transformations), the release windows (have they been confirmed as worldwide?) and some move changes, and I just went through that flickr set of images, but little else. Can someone get me up to speed, particularly with this new rumour going around?

BTW: I really hope that the Wii U roster will have surprises.. I mean come on: having the entire roster in the 3DS version and no surprises for the Wii U one which releases later is kind of lame tbh

I think the only chance of that happening is if there are time locked characters in the 3ds version, (like the spotpass characters and stages in Fire Emblem Awakening), that only will be liberated by connecting to the internet after the release of the Wii U one.

Supposedly the same guy who guessed Wii Fit Trainer, Megaman, Little Mac. Mii and Pac-Man released a new thing just before the Direct "leaking":
Shulk
Chrom
Palutena
Chorus Men
And a Pokemon from X and Y

There's also a second (separate) possible leak of 48 characers, which with the first leak means 4 cuts.

Two massive sets of images have been released since the direct. The first lot had a few new items and assist trophy confirmations.

I think that's about it lol

EDIT: Also a bunch of Ridley talk and the usual shit

I will post my statement again, so you can see it again.

Don't bring your melodramatic whining to this thread please, because I have seen some people and moderator are getting fed up with your whining on other board. We don't know anything for sure at the moment. The leaks are not solid 100% until the game got released since we don't know if the leak provided full roster or not..

Also 48 characters roster being horrid, I think many people would disagreed with you here as well. Also here is my comment toward to you from other board.

I would like to remind you that Sakurai don't pick the characters based on their popularity only. He kept looking for unique qualities in those characters as well. That's why it's extremely important for Sakurai to pick the characters with unique qualities so they could stand out comparing to veterans rather than cookie cutter characters.

Look at newcomers

Little Mac - He's a beast on the ground with few serious flaws which is mostly landed on recovery and aerial battles. Yeah, he is one of Western's most wanted character but he was able to provided an unique gameplay for Smash.

Wii Fit Trainer - At first, she surely look like a cookie cutter character, but now we found out about her deep breathing technique so basically she is boost character where she have to activated the move in order to power up her other attacks. Also her franchise is extremely popular everywhere along with casual players. Her franchise is 6th best selling wii game, so basically the franchise have sold over 22M.

Villager - One of most wanted characters all over the worldwide. People kept clamoring for Animal Crossing representative ever since pre-Brawl hype.

Mega Man - One of most legendary and popular third-party character despite the fact that Capcom kept mismanaged the franchise. He is one of most requested character over the worldwide.

Rosalina & Luma - Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy protagonist. Both games are pretty much successful, so both games have been sold over 18M. She have been gaining a lot of popularity lately. I admitted that she is one of unexpected character for me at least, along with Greninja. Look at her gameplay, she actually brought a unique moveset into this game, which is Puppetmaster which work similar to Carl from Blazblue or Any Stand from JoJo Fighting game.

Greninja - I admitted that I'm mind blown by his inclusion. We finally got a true Ninja character; at best, A NINJA FROG. Yeah, Greninja is one of most recently character that have became playable character, so I can't really defend him that much however you have to face the fact that Pokemon X/Y have been sold over 12M which is pretty impressive sales in the video game industry. Also Greninja is one of most popular pokemon in X/Y. Sometime I wonder if they were planning ahead to push Froakie and it's evolution line since we're aware of the fact that Ash had Froakie in his team. Maybe, Maybe not. About his moveset, it's pure ninja moveset which excited me since every time he acted out the moves with streak of badassness.

I wouldn't comment on rumored characters unless they becomes 100% confirmed but you have to look at aspect where they came from. They could be there due to popularities, unique movesets or mechanism, or their importance to franchise and Nintendo history. Actually, I would say Sakurai and the teams did fantastic job with characters inclusions so far.

I don't remember words to words, but Sakurai said that he felt that Smash Bros could be boring game if he had to bring all of the popular and highly demanded characters in the game. I would agreed with him fully because I can't imagine the Smash without Jigglypuff, Ice Climbers, Mr. Game and Watch, R.O.B, etc because they brought so much histories to the Smash Franchise.

I know you have been wanting Ridley to be in the game so much, but I think you shouldn't fret too much right now until we see the final roster which is like 4 or 5 months away. Basically, it's wait and see game for us to see if the rumors and leaks are real or not; and how good the roster would be. Just be patience and tough it out for 4-5 months so who know Sakurai could surprise you with playable Ridley or not.

Advice: Patience is Virtue.

Edited: I think people shouldn't take rumors and leaks 100% serious until we are so sure that they are real. It's fun to reading the rumors and leaks to see what people would trying so hard to fake the list, but at same time when it come to leaks that have potentially to be real; it's great thing to keep it in our minds so we can be prepare for the reveals.

I never got the enthusiasm about Kremlings and K Rool...

Back when he was relevant he would've been neat. More villains in smash would be nice.

Nowadays though? It seems kinda pointless to make a boss playable that's essentially been forgotten by their own franchise of origin, I don't really get it.

Lol at Ridley and K Rool being the only two all stars missing.

The only cool newcomers are Little Mac, Villager and Greninja.

If I'm honest, half the roster is uninteresting at best, and please, no Chrom.

Says the guy with a Rosalina avatar. :p

How many people are still expecting a playable Ridley?

Smash Run to replace adventure mode in the 3DS version. A metric fuckton of items, assists and pokémon revelaed.

Just watch the direct, so much info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xUWnQu2Grs

Also there's a bunch of image sets, one for WiiU/3DS images that came out the day of the direct, and two others with 3DS and WiiU images that came out yesterday. This is the oldest one: https://www.flickr.com/photos/48280274@N02/sets/72157643678092364/

I'm gonna be extremely happy with a roster close to 50, but how on Earth are they gonna continue the series if they have to add characters for every game. What happens with rosters in other big long-time fighting franchises?

They start adding less characters every time and get rid of all the clones.

I honestly don't see why this matters that much, the history of Nintendo series spans much more than the years in between brawl and the present yet it's as if only two time periods can be approached upon the arrival of a new smash brothers game.
The first being modern relevancy which is often used as a strong driving point for most potential characters with the runner up going to NES levels of Retro characters. Anyone caught in between these periods is stuck in some sort of no man's land it seems and I guess I just don't see the need to shut characters like these out entirely, this extends to game series as well like Golden Sun, Custom Robo and Advance Wars I suppose though they're very much tied into Assist Trophy land it seems which is also understandable.

It's a bit strange to think that in the event where our oh so nineties Krok villain had turned up in like the final five minutes of Tropical Freeze all of a sudden he'd go from being considered wholly irrelevant to character contention once more.
With some series like Fire Emblem and Pokemon that focus that much more an a revolving door of newcomers then it makes more sense to push this angle when possible with such large casts to pool from considering newcomers, with something like DKC not so much, should I be instead rooting for Lord Fredrik because he's the most recent big bad for the series even though he'll probably never be seen again? I'll leave that approach to the Zelda fans.

Lol at Ridley and K Rool being the only two all stars missing.

Little Mac, Villager, and, as much as you might not like it, Mii's, were all much more needed than K Rool.
I don't think anyone would seriously entertain either as being more worth a spot than lead franchise characters from series that have been very popular in recent years (Villager, Mii) or one of the most easily deserving retro reps left to add in SSB (Mac).
I think Mii's are pretty bleh but they've absolutely earned their place in Nintendo History.

Ridley and K.Rool occupy a different area altogether, hanging out in a lower tier of recurring Nintendo villainy and aren't all stars, they're no Bowser or Ganondorf but they've at least popped up enough times in their respective franchises to be considered the main rivals for the series leads and in the case of Metroid and DK i'd put forward that both series could warrant at least one last character to round out their respective series and either would fit quite nicely especially with this game still lacking much of a villain presence.
But hey that's what stage bosses are for I suppose.

Ultimately we'll get the characters that Sakurai deems fit, while you can try working out a few trends based upon past roster choices and current newcomers we'll never truly know what's coming up or what his criteria is, even with someone like Rosalina who is currently quite well accepted as a newcomer people would probably quickly dismiss you for suggesting her a mere year ago.

Some just keep adding more and more (see Tekken). Other franchises usually have a roster reduction, but that usually comes along with big graphical and fighting engine revamps. See Marvel vs Capcom 2 -> Marvel vs Capcom 3; Mortal Kombat Trilogy -> Mortal Kombat 4; Mortal Kombat Armageddon -> Mortal Kombat (reboot); the start of each Street Fighter series; DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3 -> Raging Blast.

It's worth noting that the last case pretty much killed the sales of DBZ fighting games, since the game really didn't change enough to make the cast list cuts worth it.

They start adding less characters every time and get rid of all the clones.

I don't think there's any series that did that when it didn't involve actually reducing the cast list.

The 3DS version will have roughly the same types of Assist Trophies and Pokémon. Just roughly…

roughly?! SUPERSAH, ARE YOU ALIVE!?!?

Just kidding. I'm curious about this.

What I'm hoping for is that the Wii U version will introduce new characters that will get patched into the 3DS version

Well, I did brought up that before. I mentioned that I could see that they would kept adding the characters to the Wii U version, and release characters dlc (free) for 3DS.

Thank you! I forgot little Fletchling!

Where did you spotted Fletchling?

AT pretty much confirms that if the pal leak is legit( it is imo) she will be character not a AT like some ppl believed. Plus it means the stupid leak gets another character right, and one more step to a horrible roster. Before any characters where announced I told myself with only 2 allstars left out in brawl there no way sakurai could screw it up, and sakurai continues to prove me wrong :(

Also I would like to point out that the leaker who claimed 48 characters and 4 cuts mentioned that 48 characters might not be final numbers. Here is his exactly quote,

He said 48 characters for smash ( it could change ) also he mentions 4 characters are cut from smash also no release date.

I think it's too vague for my own taste.

Some just keep adding more and more (see Tekken). Other franchises usually have a roster reduction, but that usually comes along with big graphical and fighting engine revamps. Problem with your argument is that those games that you mentioned are making from the scratch from what I recalled instead of porting over. Super Smash Bros 4's engines and skeleton programs are more likely to be ported from Super Smash Bros Brawl to save the development times and budgets. I know Sakurai mentioned it in one of old articles.

K. Rool is much more fleshed out than Wii Fit Trainer, Mr. Game and Watch, Ice Climbers, R.O.B., and Captain Falcon were before they joined smash. If you consider any of those characters fleshed out, it's only because Smash made them so. I don't see why it couldn't do the same for K. Rool.

Also, since when was needing to appear in a recent game a requirement to get into Smash? This game is just as much about Nintendo's history as it is about promoting their more recent characters. Hell, the Kremlins haven't appeared in just as long as K. Rool, and they have a confirmed appearance in Smash Run, so...

Yeah, It's possible that King Rool could ended up being boss for Smash Run.

Problem with Soviet Prince and RosalinaX; they don't realized the fact that Sakurai would kept putting the characters in the games. When they are approaching at the deadline before they went gold, that's when they stopped adding the characters. If 48 characters and 4 cuts ended up being right then it was just lucky guess.

What are the odds of Bayonetta or a character from Wonderful 101 being in the game (as playable characters)?

Realistically? Nearly zero.

That doesn't stop people from being hopeful though. Maybe we will get a couple of assist trophies or something.

It sounds more like a target for them than a lucky guess. They'd aim for that 48 characters 4 cuts number (or something like that), but eventually they'd cut low-priority characters from their plans. That's probably how some of the Forbidden Seven happened.

Oh this isn't a question directed so much as you in particular, I just kind of spun off based upon a trend i've noticed when it comes to character discussion for this game midway through whatever the heck it was I originally planned to say so just ignore my rambling.

Let me elaborating on 48 characters leaks.

RosalinaX is one that leaked 48 characters and 4 cuts without any reputation, so we don't know if he's a legit leaker or not.

Soviet Prince took RosalinaX's rumors way too serious without thinking that it could be fake rumor. So it led him to believe that Ridley and King K Rool being gone. Since he put few rumors together from 48 characters and 4 cut rumors, Gematsu rumors, along with Rosalina's confirmation. We have 47 characters, and he strongly believe that Mewtwo will be back so that would be 48 characters as total. He freaked out for last two weeks ever since Gematsu's 2nd rumor got published (and after Smash Direct)

I don't see how you can called it as target when they specifically said that they leaked 48 characters 4 cuts, along with Mario Kart 8 leaks/rumors.

You don't plan on cuts at all since it always happened at end of the development. Unless it's third-party character or Pokemon Company, It's possible that Ivysaur, Snake and Squirtle are planned cuts. Unless Pokemon Company don't want Jigglypuff to come back as well, then you would have 4 cuts that are planned in advance.

Many people can't really see any character from Original 12 would be cut. I'm not confident enough with the stance, so I don't know how I would feel about it.

What are the odds of Bayonetta or a character from Wonderful 101 being in the game (as playable characters)?

The odds should be 90%.

They probably are 20% in actuality.

Wonder Red should be in, would be perfect for the game but then again, look how long it took Little Mac and Mega Man to get in and they seem right for the game as well.

Also, Nintendo didn't do much to get the word of The Wonderful 101 out.

Kamiya is friends with Sakurai though, there's always a chance but I'm not optimistic anymore.

I didn't think it was necessary to mention that there because I think it seems obvious enough that this game is based on Brawl. You make it sound like I was trying to say that Smash WiiU/3ds is a big revamp.

I don't really follow up on details/twitter feeds and stuff like that, so i ain't got no clue what has been teased or revealed and what not.
Well nothing normally is hinted at or teased in terms of playable characters. Of course you can think Sakurai is teasing stuff if you look into some of the stuff Sakurai has posted or showed and there has been nothing like that for Bayonetta or a TW101 character.

They are very unlikely to be playable characters.

I never got the enthusiasm about Kremlings and K Rool...

To be honest, me neither and yet somehow he has the second (third) largest and loudest fan support group behind Ridley and the deconfirmed Waluigi. I'm literally here wondering what it is people want from the guy and why Dixie who remained relevant post Rare wouldn't be seen as the number 3 over this guy.

I won't knock someone else's wants especially since my #1 pick of all time is fucking Mike Jones, but someone needs to educate me on the hype and why it's so real.

Lol at Ridley and K Rool being the only two all stars missing.

Little Mac, Villager, and, as much as you might not like it, Mii's, were all much more needed than K Rool.

We still don't have one playable character from Golden Sun, Advance Wars, Sin & Punishment, EBA/Ouendan, or the Nintendo Puzzle League and those two are the "only" all stars missing. :p

At the same time though, Smash needs a lot more villains.

I didn't think it was necessary to mention that there because I think it seems obvious enough that this game is based on Brawl. You make it sound like I was trying to say that Smash WiiU/3ds is a big revamp.

It's not my intention since I want to paint a bigger picture with your statement. I just want to point it out for other guy that you responded to that they started working on Smash 4 with Brawl Port, so we are pretty sure that we are getting more characters than Brawl itself.

it is?all i remember about him are his bulging eyes, his affinity with cannonballs and that he likes to cosplay

Well, he was the main villain in one of Nintendo's most popular and acclaimed trilogies. And he was given a personality and a lot of screen time in DK64. He's much more popular than the other characters I mentioned (before they joined Smash).
