Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 7: How Can My Smash Brother Be This Cut

Had Rare stayed with Nintendo and continued to make DK games King K Rool would have been in Brawl, as it stands he got screwed due to the series moving away from him as the villain.

As in "Heathcliff"
To be honest, me neither and yet somehow he has the second (third) largest and loudest fan support group behind Ridley and the deconfirmed Waluigi. I'm literally here wondering what it is people want from the guy and why Dixie who remained relevant post Rare wouldn't be seen as the number 3 over this guy.

I won't knock someone else's wants especially since my #1 pick of all time is fucking Mike Jones, but someone needs to educate me on the hype and why it's so real.

We still don't have one playable character from Golden Sun, Advance Wars, Sin & Punishment, EBA/Ouendan, or the Nintendo Puzzle League and those two are the "only" all stars missing. :p

At the same time though, Smash needs a lot more villains.

I just really want to know what about this particular RosalinaX rumor made it start gaining traction. No one I've spoken to can either 100 percent believe in it or discredit it outright.

http://www.mariokartwii.com/f105/inside-drift-133682-13.html

Well, according to RosalinaX, he know someone that are working on the game. Here is the rumors that he claimed;

I hear the indrift is returning, but there being tweeked.

from a person that's workin on mk8 he isn't allowed to say a lot about the game. @Skyscraper

hehe all right I'll try to. Things he talks about with us is how mk8 new way of preventing USC exploits. @Skyscraper

Well, he is limited on what he can say and can't. But things he shared with us is
- new system to prevent ultra shortcuts
- why the blue shell wasn't in the e3 demo
- ssb4 number of characters ( I think it was real )
- and indrift
- explained maka wuhu issue
Only question I asked is if there was a shortcut that broke the game will you patch it he said yes.

Blue shell wasn't programmed in to the new tracks it has to follow a path.

I'm sure the bombs, bullets, lighting would of slow down the demo line

Maka, I'm having a hard time remembering what he said. I'll have to ask him again.

He said 48 characters for smash ( it could change ) also he mentions 4 characters are cut from smash also no release date.

Mk8 roster idk

Someone asked RosalinaX a question is he friend of this man (leaker) in real life. (he know him by Skype)

No, he isn't

lol, I would get too many pm's from random people asking me to tell him to put in characters they want or what's in the game etc

As for indrift is back in, but it's being nerfed.

It was a Skype convo, now let's get back on topic.

then later on, someone contacted him; and asked him to share anything more on the rumor. He basically said Cap Falcon is in the game and 48 characters 4 cuts are still same.

wow, 48 characters compared to brawls 35...

Pretty sure Snake is one out of those four that are cut though ;-;

Rates quality was declining anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if they were taken off DK if they had stayed around.

K. Rool is much more fleshed out than Wii Fit Trainer, Mr. Game and Watch, Ice Climbers, R.O.B., and Captain Falcon were before they joined smash. If you consider any of those characters fleshed out, it's only because Smash made them so. I don't see why it couldn't do the same for K. Rool.

Also, since when was needing to appear in a recent game a requirement to get into Smash? This game is just as much about Nintendo's history as it is about promoting their more recent characters. Hell, the Kremlins haven't appeared in just as long as K. Rool, and they have a confirmed appearance in Smash Run, so...

K.Rool fleshed out? Well now I've heard everything. He's about as one-note as villains can get, he steals bananas and antagonizes DK just so there's a basic premise for the games, excuse plot at its finest.

You might also wanna take note of the characters you're comparing him too, see something they share that K.Rool doesn't? They're all main representatives of their own series / game / hardware, K.Rool is a tertiary character in the DK series.

Considering Nintendo had no idea what to do with the character for years after selling their stake in Rare, I'm kinda skeptical. Even if they were garbage games, they were the only ones doing anything with the character.

Bowser just steals Peach over and over again, there's Mario's plot. I never said he was fleshed out, just that he was MORE fleshed out. And in case you didn't see my post after the one you quoted, he was certainly given a bit of personality and screen time in DK64, even if it was just "big menacing alligator king."

I'm aware that Bowser has been in far more games than K. Rool, but using shallow plot isn't an argument against someone joining Smash. He's the antagonist of the DKC games. That's more than enough to get a spot in the roster. If you think otherwise, then I don't know what to say. He's obviously one of the most requested characters, so you can't say he doesn't have the popularity.

I'm also aware that those characters are the lead roles in their games, but that doesn't change the fact that K. Rool is considered the main antagonist of the DK series, even if he hasn't been in the last few games. A main antagonist in one of Nintendo's biggest franchises is enough for a spot.

Soviet Prince whining once again? Grow up kid. First you whine about the Wii U version being delayed till November now the roster? Get a grip.

Do not believe these rumours or 48 characters thing a single bit.

I counted 29 characters confirmed for the game. There are 11 characters in brawl not confirmed right now. Which means if the rumor is true 7 more characters from Brawl will be added.
So 36 characters and if the total number is 48 we can/should expect TWELVE more newcomers... That sounds like too many. But amazing if true.

This isn't directed just at you, but it's worth mentioning that the Wii U version wasn't delayed. We're just getting the 3DS version much sooner than expected.

Depends if Ivysaur and Squirtle count as 2 of those 4 cuts, which would make it 9 more Brawl vets and 10 more newcomers.

That said I think that rumour is a load of bull.

Good point. That actually makes it sound a little more believable

on second thought. Pokémon trainer is probably just 1 of the 4 cuts making it 11 more newcomers but I digress.

Maybe im bad at math but Brawl's roster had 39 characters in it. If we assume 4 are cut that gives us 35 characters plus the 6 confirmed newcomers. This makes the roster grow to 41 characters and 7 more newcomers.

So, other than HD character models, lighting, textures, etc, what do you think is the reason for the Wii U coming out later? What features will it have that the 3ds one won't? Do you think there are any modes the 3DS one that wii U doesnt that have yet to be announced, or do you think smash run is the one exclusive mode?

What unannounced features do you think they'll both have? What do you think you'll 'share' between the 2?

Wii U exclusive:
Something new to smash bros, like smash run is for 3DS. There needs to be SOMETHING that makes people who only want the 3DS version actually consider the wii U one, outside of pretty graphics and new stages. There also has to be a reason why there's a 4+ month gap.

3DS only:
Streetpass features (trophies?)
Play coin features (buy coins for play coins, or use play coins to get trophies)

3DS and Wii U:
Classic mode, Adventure mode, All-star mode, Target Smash, Home run

Shared:
Stage creator, custom characters, custom mii

I hope that the W101 fanbase grows large enough that Sakurai adds Wonder-Red in the next game.

Or the reverse, put Wonder Red/Wonderful Ones in Smash and the Wonderful 101 could experience a significant sales bump (relatively), and that could possibly encourage a sequel. I mean, Marth and Roy in Melee was basically advertising for Fire Emblem about to come to the West.

And by relatively significant increase, the most generous sales you could possibly give Wonderful 101 worldwide would probably be around 150K, probably closer to 100 or even 75K. Maybe if more people saw Wonder Red, the series could get bumped to like 250K or something

You what feature I hope comes back, the replay save feature. I always thought it was pretty cool to re-watch your fights or see others upload their own to YouTube.

Yes, Bowser is also a fairly unremarkable villain, rpg games not withstanding. He's also the villain of Nintendo's biggest franchise, that has by far the most games released. Oh and you were the one arguing how K.Rool more fleshed out than some already confirmed characters as if it's relevant, I was simply dismissing that idea. Oh and don't put words in my mouth, I never said anything about his (perceived) popularity.

I'm also aware that those characters are the lead roles in their games, but that doesn't change the fact that K. Rool is considered the main antagonist of the DK series, even if he hasn't been in the last few games. A main antagonist in one of Nintendo's franchises is enough for a spot.

If you're aware, why even bring it up? Their situation is not at all comparable. If Sakurai wants to represent Punch-Out he either includes Little Mac or doesn't represent Punch-Out, end of story. "main" antagonist or not, he still comes behind main and secondary characters. Heck, even if there was a place guaranteed for a third DK character, he wouldn't be a shoe in, Dixie is also a contender after all.

I agree. We definitely would have had more Donkey Kong games featuring him at least. Also could have had Banjo and Joanna in Brawl.

Oh man, maybe nintendo's recent partnership w/ google allows for match sharing over youtube, that would be great. I doubt the 3DS will be capable of doing it, but maybe! I think when brawl came out, the Wii U could only use 2 gig cards, or maybe 4, but nothing huge, so they *HAD* to limit the match size to 2 minutes. If they could somehow allocate space on a SD card or on the Wii U drive for replay saves, that would be fantastic. Even if it's a 5-10 minutes time limit, that's more than enough. Just limit your matches to whatever that time limit is, and you're good.

Eh I don't know about that one leak with Mii, I don't really care if it gets in but a level that literally has Mii in the title "Find Mii" having it's own unique icon as appose to some Mii symbol doesn't look too good to me. Though they could have done that to hide their reveal, but then again they showed the boxing ring. I still think you'd have to be a fool to think they'd waste time creating a boxing ring stage referencing Punch-Out and then not adding Mac.

Chrom and Chorus would seem like such a waste too. Chrom seems more like an obligation than a good idea, whatever I had enough of the characters I want get in.

I dunno how much of an actual 'Partnership' it is, but Wii U has google maps, and a youtube channel, which is more than sony/microsoft has. That and for april fools, google added pokemon to google maps.

Since I'm not following the Mario Kart thread, would someone tell me if this RosalinaX "leak" has actually got anything right so far? If not, I bet the Smash roster numbers are bullshit.

It was very vague and no way to confirm anything at this time.

I believe this person leaked reliable info on previous MK titles. I think thats why people are taking the rumor a little more seriously.

Does anyone have the source for this Mario Kart 8 leak?

Yes this takes priority over Smash for me.

Mainly because it's the only game my family can actually play and not suck tremendously at.

Doubt that's the case otherwise they wouldn't have included him in Mario Baseball on the Wii. They wouldn't have included Kremlings in other games as well. I just don't think there's a place for him in Smash, but it would have been nice to see him make an appearance, at least as a boss character.

I don't like the 48 rumor because that is making people HAVE to put cuts in their rosters.

And its usually Lucas which doesn't make any sense at all. Ivysaur and Squirtle do count as separate character too.

Man, that 1080p Smash screenshot thread turned into something alright. In other news, I think I'm finally (slowly) starting to accept certain things about what the final roster will look like and as such I've made one last roster that summarizes everything:

ifkgq5JKt0A9z.png

Any character marked in red is pretty much a "would be cool to see but generally expendable, not happening, lost in translation, etc." Of course I'm opting to hold on to hope until the very end. :p

Also, Mii and Random are their own distinct option/"slot".

The character would certainly have been better off if Donkey Kong had still been Rare's baby and K Rool had continued to get the villain spot light the way characters like Dedede and Ganondorf have

I wonder if people will cry when Mewtwo stays cut ;)

Oh. I definitely agree with you. It seemed like they wanted to move away from him being the main villain after they sold off the rest of their Rare shares.

Yep, imagine a world where Rare makes another 3D Donkey Kong after making a 3rd Banjo Kazooie platformer for the Gamecube and maybe even is bought out by Nintendo and becomes a true second party company. We'd for sure have seen another BK game and another DK game on the Wii (and a DK game earlier) and Banjo/Kazooie and King K Rool or another Rare DK character would have been in Smash Bros Brawl.

do we know how much damage the villager's "tree attack" deal?
it seems like a useless move, too much time to set up and ytoo difficult to actually hit anything
