My PS4 is noisy, yours?

That doesn't sound normal. Mine is pretty much whisper quiet unless its spinning a disc, and only then just while it starts up.

I remember a fan kick up during KZ once, otherwise, it's whisper quiet.

Same here. It may have kicked on a few times during extended Infamous play too, but never anything where I noticed it over my TV volume. (Sometimes I think I hear it, and then realize I'm hearing my bathroom fan.)

Mine is wicked loud; sometimes it sounds like gun fire, other times screams, and yet others like a basketball game.. wtf!

Mine is less noisy now that I took it out of a shelf that didn't have a whole lot of ventilation. But it's still kinda noisy. Make sure it's got room to breathe and the fan probably won't be running at full blast quite as often.

Mine is only audible at the boot of teh console, after maybe 20 seconds it quits down and stay like that always, no sound, lovely.

You have a faulty one probably.

Its the noise coming from the BR player? I didnt use a physical game yet, but playing while Warframe my PS4 is silent as fuck even after playing for hours.

Mine is a little less noisy than a ps3 slim (first model), but after 40min~ it ramps it up a bit. gets a little louder than a slim but not by much.

Usually it's pretty silent, with the exception of Dynasty Warriors, whenever there's a cutscene the ps4 seems like it's about to take off or something. A few moments on KZ made her ramp up the fans too.

The following is not about fan noise but indirectly related.

I heard a weird noise the other night coming from the drive (almost like something was stuck and hitting something) when I've inserted ground zeroes after a 2 hour playing session. Freaked me out, instantly pressed eject, looked for dust or something on the disc (everything was ok) inserted it again, and there it was - the same weird zakazakazakazakazaka ultra fast noise coming from the drive. Eject again, try other game (Infamous) - everything worked perfectly. Went back to MGS, worked perfectly once more. Don't know what happened but it worries me sometimes. Has this happened to anyone?

Just laughed super loud in my office. I guess I should be working.

Not at all. Also, my DS4 analog sticks are in tact, no rubber issues.

Launch PS4.

Same here, I feel lucky.

With almost all of my disc based games it gets very loud. Playing Child of Light right now and I cant hear a thing.

When I got my launch PS4, I noted it was a bit noisy, especially when running KZ:SF. I was surprised. The whir of the fans could really be heard. Unfortunately (or fortunately!) that PS4 developed the "continuous disk-ejection" error, and I sent it to Sony, who sent me a brand new one.

I am pleased to say that the new PS4 is NOT loud at all. It is real quiet, even when playing taxing games like infamous or KZ:SF. So I am inclined to say that I may have had a faulty, noisy PS4. I'm not sure if you have a similar case, but keep that in mind.

I don't know, mine is noisy, especially on boot (but i guess that's the disc spinning), then it's silent on OS and during inFamous it varies from slightly noisy to boot-levels.

Should i get worried?

Also, i'm using it vertical, with no stand.

My ps4 was loud from the get go. A few months later the fans would kick into high gear and the system would give out 300 degrees of heat out the back. Maybe 500. Suffice it to say that I started getting graphical glitches and eventually it was dying. I sent it in a few days ago for replacement. Sorry to say but if yours is loud it means that the fans are kicking on when they shouldn't be because there is a heating issue. My degree assumptions may be off but make no mistake it was very hot.

Outside of noises from when I boot up a game or install or something, mine had been completely quiet. Never noticed the fans or anything, it's a nice change from my 360 last gen.

Middling I'd estimate. I have it vertical and I'm sure that it gets hotter faster as a result. It's fairly quiet overall but it does start making some noise after a while if playing a graphically intense game.

On some games it is. Killzone and Dynasty Warriors for example. Other games are quiet though.

Mines vertical due to lack of space.

Summer is coming!!!!

I might Aswell be sat at the airport trying to play my ps3, my ps4 purchase depends on threads like this through the summer

Let's see

Only played Resogun and FFXIV so far. Didn't think about it when I played Resogun but I was kinda shocked how loud the fans were when I started FFXIV. Way worse than any game is on my old fat PS3. =(

Mine is loud as fuck. Xbone is dead silent, PS4 is a jet engine. Luckily I do most of my gaming with a headset on so I usually don't notice. Very disappointing though.

EDIT: I've gone 100% digital this gen, so I'm not talking about the disc drive. I don't think I've ever even used that thing. 😎

I noticed a difference when I had mine vertical with no stand. because there are no rubber feet to dampen vibrations, I think. I put it horizontal and the noise went down appreciably.

So why is this noise problem considered a non issue? It seems like it's around 50/50. Some people experience the pure bliss of the most powerful system on earth being whisper quiet and others experience a disgusting loud putrid noise spewing from their once loved system. It seems like quality control is all over the place. Sure, failure rate might be below 1% but what about the noise. All the noise noise noise. For me, it's extremely annoying but I didn't want to go to the trouble of replacing it. Well when it died I had no choice. So I better get a whisper quiet PS4 or else I'm going to crack the system over my knee and throw it off a boat.

My noise is all from the internal fans. Console sounds like a damn shop-vac after about 15 minutes of gaming.

Mine is loud too. It sits horizontally on top of a dresser.

Never knew others had quiet ones. Either they are deaf or I am miffed.

Mine is fairly quiet, with the fan noticeably kicking in during extended play or when playing some games that tax the hardware more than others. I don't find it really distracting, but it is definitely louder than my Xbone, which is just dead silent.

I'm waiting until later on in the year before I try to get a warranty replacement. I don't know if I'll even be able to just for noise, but if I can then I want to make sure that I get a console that was manufactured as recently as possible.

It'll be noisy if its in an enclosed shelf. I have an TV stand where I had my PS3 for many years with no issues. The PS4 was in there 30 minutes and was loud as could be thanks to it having to always run the fans. I moved it to on top of the TV stand and its crazy quiet.

The fan is louder than the disc drive in my PS4.

But it is about the same loudness that my PS3 slim fan gets (which has a louder disc drive), so I think it is normal.

I'm not very tolerant of noise though, I wish it was quieter, but I deal with it.

I sent mine back because the fan sounded like it had bad bearings. Sony replaced the fan, the rattle is gone but it still sounds like it's working pretty hard with a game running. I've barely switched it on over the last couple of months though.

After having a jet engine ps3, I'm super super happy that my ps4 is quiet. It just makes a whirring noise when it boots up, and loads discs.

Wait, so something is wrong if we're hearing the fans? Have the people saying theirs is completely silent played Killzone or Infamous? Less intensive games don't cause my fans to kick in much but those two produce considerable noise (Infamous to a lesser extent). I figured it was normal.

Mine can get fairly loud. Definitely doesn't overpower my sound system at a reasonable volume though. I game in a small room though so if it were in a living room I'd definitely never hear it.
