My honest thoughts are that if this is anything it will be a redesign/rebrand/relaunch of the Wii U. Similar to the PS3 slim in 2009.

That shitty lowres gamepad has to go. If they made a better version wich was also a handheld... But then again, wiiu is dead, so better come with a new console + gamepad/handheld. Remote play yoo

How does not making a 3DS successor now and redesigning the Wii U save face? If anything new hardware would do that.

wut when did I say otherwise? I think if this is anything and its not the QoL thing; it's definetly a WiiU revision

I just highly doubt it's a 3DS successor in comparison

Yes!

My prediction 1: tablet-less WiiU. Prediction 2: New handheld that's in a tablet size that's a new product line, not a replacement for the 3DS.

Can't believe people are happy for it to be a new console. Sure it'd be very exciting if it was, but at the same time, I'd have such massive disrespect for Nintendo, probably way past the level for MS already, ha ha, and would probably find it very hard to trust them again if they're just gonna ditch a console that isn't going how they'd like after 2 years.

A higher res Gamepad would be cool thinking about it... (A new console wouldnt be needed for that hopefully...), could be a little less heavier too. A new 3DS (Similar to a DSi I guess?), is possible, but I don't know how that'd be justified seeing the 3DS is already geared for updates and whatnot, depends what the addition/change could be, done far too many 3DS revisions as it is really though. Simply a OG 3DS Slim would work too, but would be boring to me.
Wii U revision would be more interesting, but don't really see the point of it.

Dead

well not really...yet
Wonder if watch dogs delay is related.

They need to get rid of the wiki name, and the gamepad. Rebrand the whole thing.

Any replacement for WiiU or 3ds right now would be suicide. They dropped support for the Wii very early if they do the same with the WiiU... I don't know, I think that at some point even their core user base won't take it anymore.

It has to be a revision or something that won't affect the other two platforms directly.

It sure was suicide when they released the DS when the GBA was only 3 and a half years old. The DS sold sooo poorly, am I right?

I love the half-serious joking about proper new hardware but it makes me think how much seriousness there actually is in those posts. Some people are going to be so disappointed if Nintendo doesn't curb the hype before E3.

Gameboy Advance was only 3 years old when they launched the DS. The 3DS just turned 3 in March...

And the Gameboy Advance sold really freaking well

it will be some kind of healthy thing.

Wtf else could it be? And I find it interesting that third parties know about it.

Implying better third party support for Wii U?

Doubt it.

Put it this way if the highly unlikely happened, new revised hardware with better third party support I could be there day one. This is the first gen for me that I haven't bought Nintendo hardware.

The true name of the Wii U will always be the Nintendo Come for me. It just makes so much sense after Nintendo Wii.

Nintendo DsU

A dual screen, higher-res, handheld with dual joysticks similar to the Wii U tablet. The tablet was just a test of the technology. It will come with an HDMI wireless adapter for streaming to your TV when you're not carrying it mobile.

My bet - They'll introduce a new 3DS model and get rid of the OG 3DS, which at this point looks out of place in the 3DS line up.

They're not going to succeed the Wii U this early, they're still holding onto Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros and more the keep it afloat. Announcing something new now would kill it dead.

I don't think they'll succeed the 3DS either, though there is a suspicious lack of first party releases on the horizon. Tomodachi and Smash Bros is about it, and that's just till the end of summer. However, the announcement of Monster Hunter 4 coming west in 2015 would be a strange choice if a new console is releasing before, or around the same time as then.

I think it's way too early for an other (new) console. However, hardware could mean anything.

Whatever it is, I wish Nintendo good luck with it. Their current view, of the game industry, isn't the best and I hope they do sth about it. They are a great company and deserve better.

People said they were focusing on a more QoL direction but I can't see that happen this early since they announced that less then 6 months ago. Unless this has been cooking for awhile.

It's going to be a rebranding and some sort of hardware update. Maybe it is related to QoL stuff but I can't see it happening this early

thanks for the laugh
y'know when sega announced at E3 that the saturn would be on sale the next day? nintendo should do the opposite with the wii u.

burn down the rotten forest so that life may grow again.

Blame Sony. The PSP announcement got Nintendo into a reactionary stance: one that turned in solid gold.

This is no longer the Nintendo that reacted to that announcement.

I want a small $100 console with a wireless SNES style controller that plays Virtual console games and new downloadable content.

Give me that and a proper account system and I'm back in Nintendo.

I'll buy three of them and give the rest to family.

Would blow my mind: New handheld
Realistic hope: Last 3DS revision
Hope not: A Wii U gamepad revision (it's too late, guys)
Who the fuck knows: The mysterious Qwol

Not that I know of. They mentioned it will launch in CY 2015, but that's about it.

They said they'll talk about it in 2014: http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/140130/05.html

Today I would like to limit my presentation to the general direction of our new business, but I plan to announce more details within 2014. I then plan to talk about its specific features and a clearer vision of what we really mean by the term “non-wearable.”
This new business will be launched during the fiscal year ending March 2016, which begins in April 2015. As this is a completely new field of business, our plan is to make it contribute to our overall business and position it for growth from following fiscal year.

QOL is probably what it will be if true

Don't think it's what people think it is.

Well, at least it isn't the succesor to the Wii U. The Mario Kart 8 marketing just got into full swing.

If anything, there is a possibility of the successor the 3DS (We've only gotten one Pokemon game and it's almost time for a successor, pretty crazy) or a redesign.

From the earnings call earlier this year...

- QOL platform will roll out in April 2015, integrated with games, business plan details in 2014,

Obviously this could mean an E3 reveal of the QOL 'non-wearable' hardware (whatever it is).

I'll agree with others who say it is a pad-less Wii U. Third party needs to know about these things so that they can make sure currently in development titles use the pad optionally and that all titles going forward use the pad optionally.

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa

whoa

This will be interesting if true...
All Byo2 footage so far's been from the device they'll unvail at this E3? Whoa!

3DSi, built from the ground up with NNIDs and Miiverse completely integrated into the OS. Friend Codes gone forever. Faster CPU and more RAM, which can be used by 3DSi-enhanced games. Better cameras. Second analogue slider, and two extra shoulder buttons, which together act as a Circle Pad Pro in supported games. Can be used as a Wii U controller.

This is what I'm thinking as well. I mean, come on. They are not about to hype up Mario Kart 8, release a new bundle and then go into E3 and drop the hammer on everyone who just bought one and say, "Surprise! Now buy our new system... coming next year!"
