Compile Heart announces Omega Quintet for PS4 - Sept 18 2014 [Up: Trailer & Website]

Compile Heart... damn.

The flip side to that is it appears even the niche developers are ready to go full current generation or at least start making games for it a year after launch. This is relevant to my interests.

Niche devs have actually jumped on board: GUST, NIppon and Falcom all have PS4 games in development.

Awesome! I always thought they would be one of those companies that sticks to PlayStation 3 forever (based on nothing other than my weird prejudices), but I'm happily mistaken. Hope it turns out well for them.

They seem to be doing fine on the Vita as they did a fantastic job with the 2 neptunia titles.

Are there legit online photos of the mag scans yet. Want to see that player model (?) shot.

Ah! Slipped my mind entirely. Fair point. I've yet to play those! I actually liked the PS3 Neptunia titles quite a bit. Going to check those Vita (Neptunia) releases out later on, for sure.

GUST and Idea Factory are what's wrong with RPGs today. That's just reality!!!!!

Anyway, if people like these moege uninspired RPGs then that's fine, but most of the time it just seems like the praise is due to the "anime visual" itch being scratched and that some would be better off playing countless JP iOS titles.

MK/Dusk GUST is mostly ok.

Arland GUST... meh.

It seems like Japanese niche developers are usually more enthusiastic to jump on board new hardware, while the big developers are reluctant and playing the waiting game.

If anything it's the opposite. A lot of the big guys have already publicly stated that their next big game will hit the PS4, and hope the PS4 will do well in Japan in the time being. It's the middle guys, who completely ignore the subject that refuse to change.

I welcome the first JRPG for the PS4 with open arms!
So what if it'll probably be objectively lousy and look like a mid-gen PS3 game? Gotta start somewhere! "Somewhere" for the PS3 was, what, 2+ full years in with seriously meh quality stuff like Cross Edge, Disgaea 3 and Rorona that all looked 5 years dated?

This should be some indicator that the PS4 isn't terribly expensive to develop for or they'd never have jumped on this early. When your total budget is $12 something must be going well.

There are some photos released if you know where to look. I just saw one rather close up picture of a blonde girl and her 3D character model is really good. I wish the characters from Tales of series would look like that.

Not really

Sorry I was only thinking of RPGs, mainly on PlayStation hardware. Look at how long it took for Tales of or Final Fantasy to finally appear on PS3. And on Vita, the ones still actively making RPGs for it are Compile Heart, Falcom, Gust, Experience... all small developers.

Say what you want about these niche devs, but in a time where the big players are salivating and mobile-hungry, these devs remain a consistent presence in console development.

It's not like they're particularly bad, as well. Their games are often rough, unpolished, and shows a lot of age sometimes, but they're mostly good enough that you'd never mistake the game for a 3DS or mobile game. It's really just the content that's a bit too niche for most's likings.

And for what it's worth, I feel like the developers like Gust and Compile Heart have a way better foundation of taking the next-step in improving the quality of their games into something greater.

At the very least, when I see new games from them, I don't shudder being concerned that they'll make shitty mobile games, whereas I see big-name Japanese publishers flaunting around beloved IPs and go lol mobile.

Oh well yea. But I feel like that's also due to the nature of big pub JRPGs, and how large in scale they are. They'll be out in years from now, while the smaller guys can push out things quicker. So even if they both make the decision to go next gen around the same time, the small-middle pubs will have significantly faster turn around.

Sigh... I just want my JRPGs, Japan. Come on, guys.

They seriously are fucking fantastic with how they got it optimized so well on the Vita. The loading times I cant say enough how insanely fast it is for the battles.

Just saw this. Looks kind of Atelier-ish.

Generic as heck outfit ( ´_⊃`)

Shovelware card / pazudora clones vs. shovelware moe idol RPGs with uninspired battle mechanics. You make it sound like one is much better.

Anyway, I think the worst offender here it's that from now on everyone will think of this when people say "Quintet" instead of you know... the other Quintet.

Fuck them. :(

Really? Interesting! That's great to know. Now, the Vita titles are only available in Japan at the moment... Correct?

I like to be optimistic in developers growth. Stuff like Fairy Fencer F or Makai Ichiban Kan are an improvement over what they're more popularly known for.

Gust are mostly the only thing right with JRPGs today. Using more exclamation marks does not make your opinion any more valid or convincing.

Calling Gust JRPGs uninspired in particular makes not the least bit of sense to me, considering how many unique and well-designed gameplay mechanics they introduced in the PS3 Atelier titles, and how different those are in their entire progression mechanics from the vast majority of JRPGs.

I've lost faith ( ´_⊃`) I didn't know there was MIK gameplay footage anyway.

Joke emphasis!

The alchemy mechanics are okay but like I said my main issue is with their battle mechanics. I don't consider them "unique" and "well-designed" and it's something I consider vital for a JRPG to have. The rest of the game is not as important for me if the battle system is as boring as they are. For the ones I've played, anyway. No desire to keep putting money into annual Call of Atelier: Modern Alchemy games.

I would usually ask if there's any chance of this being localized, but after some recent announcements, I'll just wait for it :D

Anime idols are great.

Black haired girl is the best, calling it.

Sooo....why are there so many JRPGS and anime with fan service if all of the biggest games/anime has little to no fan service? Is it because the floor is higher in sales (which doesn't seem to be a lot...) regardless of the quality?

I've been happy with Gust, particularly since I greatly prefer consoles to handheld. They've managed to make and release a good HD console game every year, which is a lot more than I can say for other JRPG publishers. Compare them to Atlus's sad console output this gen.

djtiesto

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Not really into these games aside from the art/fanservice. Oh well, it's a good sign that at least one small/niche Japanese developer is on board with the PS4, hopefully this will lure out some of the others.

I still don't understand why Toriyama is not with Compile Heart. They always makes games that he would like to make.
