Fighting Games Weekly | May 12-18 | The Bracket Racket

ChrisG and Sanford have nothing else but fighting games and they manage to not care about the two most important tournaments in the FGC, EVO and Capcom Pro Tour. Might as well just quit and find a 9-5, more like 9-8 nowadays. No wonder no one likes these guys.

Is it true that Akuma far stand fierce is cancelable in USF4?

I've only heard about it from Count Blackula here so maybe he can post a source.

I just went on Twitter and they are basically saying "does anyone care about Capcom Pro Tour?"

This mind you is coming from one guy who doesn't care about EVO and another guy who lately hasn't been attending EVO regularly. So if they don't care about EVO they are probably not going to care about Capcom Pro Tour either.

More like this is the same guy who got massively butthurt when Capcom Cup announced that UMvC3 was going to be picked by popular vote, afraid that it may jeopardize his chance of getting in. ChrisG has been to almost every big tournament in this first half of the year but hasn't made top 8 in AE. He knows it. So he wants people to look past it. Like Sabin said, Chris fronts like hell.

And Sanford, where to start.

'Who cares about X?' is a rhetorical fishing expedition, not a textbook example of "Keeping it real."

Sanford's a more interesting case. He's gone through times when he was flat on his ass broke, and now he's shitting on the investments made back into the community while saying "I just wanna travel and play and get better." He might actually just be dumb.

Sounds about right I guess.

Being really good at games doesn't mean you're really good at other things.

Look at Justin. Amazing game player. Terrible wrestling fan.

SO I'M PLAYING THIS GAME NOW. :'D

I can never tell when someone's being ironic talking about wrestling

I actually like Cena. Note, though, that I have worked with Make-A-Wish in the past. So that's a large part of it to me. I also think people sort of hate on him just to fit in and hate on him to some extent as well.

I just don't get the wrestling appeal I think.

Please tell me you're joking. This is like someone coming onto a radio talk show and telling people that they got abducted by aliens.

Also sorry I ended up not coming down for RoF3 this weekend. I didn't flake out of Stunfest in time...

Are any non-american people in to wrestling btw? I don't think I have met any:eek:

Lots of people in the UK are into WWE. They sell UK versions of the magazines over here, it's broadcast on our major sport network and Bazza87, who runs the VGCW stream, is from London.

UFC is also popular over here, I see my Twitter feed spark up when major fights happen.

Oh yeah, I believe Wade Barrett is from Preston, which isn't too far from me.

Harada's pretty big into Japanese wrestling- I'm pretty sure he even styled himself after Chono some.

Also Lucha libre's fairly popular in Mexico.

There's more to wrestling than WWE.

Yeah I RT this so hard, I'm not saying she's the best but I feel like you have to be actually bad at fighting games to not win with her. I'm not super scared about vortex and she doesn't make me want to play 3/5s etc, but hot dang is she easy to use..

Right? I'm normally the guy arguing against artificial difficulty or hiding tool-sets behind execution barriers (ala Viper), but Batgirl has seriously made me reconsider that idea. I spent less than 3 hours practicing with her and every challenging local opponent I had suddenly felt really easy. She's so autopilot it hurts.

Percentage wise, I actually think more people are fans in Canada & the UK than in the US. The UK tours get crazy, crazy attendance, and the Harts popularized wrestling in Canada to this day.

The ruling isn't that drastic - it's just points for CPT, it's not as if Capcom is banning USF4 from being at next year's ECT or anything.

No, but it will make some top players reconsider whether or not they should travel to the event if they have to choose between that and a chance that will give them a bigger payout at the end of the year.

Also, top players who also have enough points to guarantee their placement in CPT have the option of skipping (if they wanted) as they know that they can't lose in the standings.

That in turn potentially affects the marketability of the tournament which then potentially affects sponsors.

It's not going to sink ECT, but I don't feel the impact is negligible enough to ignore.

I just installed the game, it's real. And at first sight, it's very unfinished. I have corrupted files inside, some stages are not working, some characters disapear during matches. It's freaky as hell. Mailed the devs that told me their server was collapsing and creating corrupted files.

The game has the same digits for all characters but that could be the corrupted files. The deathrips are not working because of this too. Some stages are ugly it makes me laugh so hard.

You can't follow a rule that doesn't exist, and based on all the discussion after FR and ECT this year, you'd be hard pressed to prove that the FGC has any generally accepted view on bracket floating, either. TOs of big majors don't like it, but others are okay with it. So even if you wanted to say that Capcom is enforcing a conduct standard that TO's should know, there's no community standard that you can say ECT fell afoul of.

I think it should go without saying that manipulating the brackets in a way that directly affected who got CPT points would not be an acceptable thing to do vis-a-vis CPT.

Death Cargo is real.

I can see that being true due to Europe's higher population density. You can't fake offline experience.

TOTALLY the opposite. Europe is still suffering from an event drought in comparison to the US scene. You have to remember that, on that list Justin gave, it includes only British and French players, with the exception of V-Ryu, who I think might be from some place near Belgium?

Without Dreamhack, we really don't have many majors. France has IVGC, Stunfest, RoF, and one or two others, and the UK pretty much only has Hypespotting, Versus Fighting and possibly SVB.

Alioune on Twitter has given a top ten in his opinion:

Alioune
Louffy
Ryan Hart
PbX,Valmaster
Gagapa
Cuongster
Andreas
V-Ryu
Popi

Sixfortyfive

He who pursues two rabbits gets two rabbits.
I know some Europeans into Japanese women's wrestling.
Looking forward to my copy of Cutie Suzuki: Ringside Angel coming in the mail.

I really need to coordinate with one of the regional TOs for throwing some random kusoge mystery tournament sometime. I'm amassing quite the selection.

How are locals, though?

This was all discussed after FR, and like I say, reasonable people disagree which means you cannot say "it goes without saying."

Plus it was a known-known that ECT would float brackets in a situation like this, it's even in the post FR thread discussion.

I'm ok guys, thanks for the wishes and stuffs. :)

About time you posted! Glad you're okay.

Wanted to answer this from the ECT thread:

Did SweetJohnnyCage say what company he's going to work for?

I don't have anything set in stone. But working a regular 9-5 w/ a 90 minute commute each way everyday, doing ECT/TFC, and attempting to find an industry job is a bit too much for me to handle without something slipping through the cracks. I decided to drop ECT/TFC in order to get my career going. I might come back to it in full force at some point in the future. For now, I'm just going to have an advisory role in ECT, and help out where I'm needed at the event.
