The Order: 1886 New Previews, More

To be fair you haven't played the order either. You could go to youtube and search for some small gameplay clips of the games you haven't played from that list and tell us how the narrative/cinematic pieces of those games affect the whole.

Edit: To be clear, saying the gameplay of the order looks not as good as infamous or god of war is subjective and valid. The rest of what you said, not so much.

I can only go on what the devs emphasize when promoting the game. It seems clear that their focus was on 'cinemtics' as they put it. What they view as being the unique feature of the game is the seamless integration of cut scenes into the action. I'm saying that decision will backfire. It is possible that there is some incredible gameplay being hidden, but if so then this would be one of worst marketing campaigns ever.

I don't think they have to worry. Some of the later weapons are going to be shockingly brutal lol.

Even the most basic weapon needs to feel useful and impactful, though. RE 4 did that perfectly, but a lot of third person shooters since have dropped the ball.

Exactly. It doesn't matter how "brutal" or "visceral" the weapons are in concept, if they don't feel right, then it's for nothing. Feel comes from animation, sound and visual effects, and the way enemies react to being shot. Right now the bullet impacts look legitimately sub-par (not just compared to the high bar set by the rest of the presentation), and this is very evident in the bullet time clip.

I am more than happy this game got delayed it would have lost lot and lot of potential sales going against some of the biggest multiplates this fall also i don't have time to play all those game in 1 month so Feb is good for us and the devs (more sales)

Amazing.

I like the beards, the sideburns, the Arthurian legend, the mustaches, and especially the black borders. I've seen a lot of black borders but these are on a whole other level, I can tell you.

I'm glad they're concentrating on the story, I tend to be disappointed if they story is not up to par. I hope the weapons are well balanced and bring the oomph. However, look at those graphics, bloody nora!

Couple of things I noticed:

9HndDyz.jpg

Advertising for siamese twins, possible visit to circus? Or maybe even the same place as half-breeds, like some sort of "freak show"?

I mainly notice the embrodery's quality, and the folds creating shadows...

anyone else slightly annoyed seeing random brick walls 2 metres high on the street that can be used for cover? it takes away from the realism. wish they could incorporate it in a better way somehow

They built trenches in the war, why is it so difficult to believe they wouldn't build walls to hide behind and keep enemies out?

Please elaborate on exactly what it "could have been"

I was personally expecting something more of a hack and slash/shooter hybrid. Sort of survival horrorish, with a moody atmosphere ala Hellgate: London (with non-sucky gameplay).

This was a hope based on their original trailer mind you, which didn't give a lot of info. I know that given the more recent media, I was sadly mistaken. It's too bad :-(

Apparently those are quite faithful to the period. Used as seperators between houses where there was little to no yard. But then i'm no expert so it might be bullshit?

Looks absolutely incredible; best looking console game shown thus far, despite the ridiculous amounts of nasty-ass tearing. Regardless of what the developers are currently saying, I would like to see footage without any tearing to tear (ololol) that worry away.

This is probably the best looking game to ever be released. If this isn't a full generational leap, then nothing is.

I can't wait to see how UC4 compares.

Some good stuff in the videos.

The Gametrailers interview irritated me a little, he presented soft-cover as something they were doing for the first time, despite Tomb Raider and TLoU doing it last year, he presented branching QTEs as something they were doing new, despite it being in Heavy Rain a few years ago, and he even talked about slow motion as if Max Payne didn't do it more than a decade ago.

Their description of "soft cover" sounds very similar to The Last of Us' cover system. There's no toggle button, just get close enough and you'll enter cover.

You still have to opt into cover with a button press. But after, you can pull off and re-enter very similar to The Last of Us.

Pressing X gets you out of soft cover as well as moving Y distance from cover objects.

By leaving the button press to get in, you gain the ability to slam/move quickly into cover, which is something we wanted (and liked from Gears).

Actually that is a bad example. Most of the hits don't actually register it is only the killing shot that causes a reaction animation. That is the one thing that stands out from all the footage.

Actually, that looks like two different modes on the gun. Notice how he moves his hand to the gun just before the shot that has a punch goes off. He moves it to the gun and does something on it.

Also, notice that the hits that have no punch are very smoky. It may be something like the thermite gun where it has two modes of fire.

This already has been gone over and over and over in the first screenshots/video that shows the alley. They aren't things randomly put there for cover. They are true to the time period.

I think this is an issue all cover-based games face. You can walk into an area and immediately tell you're going to have combat there.

Source on the "cinematics are the focus"? From what I've read the focus has been making the game cinematic, which is completely different to the cinematics. The other thing they've said is that story informs gameplay (eg the last of us) not gameplay informs story (eg uncharted 3)

Also, they're on the right track for worst marketing campaign ever.

I cant stop looking at this gif. Does he fire with one hand if you do not hold L1? It looks so much cooler.

It says flick the stick to choose targets, so I'm thinking it's to do with that. edit: oh you could be right, I was thinking there were more than two stances.

Nitpickers beware! .. you're missing out on the simple awesomeness that this title oozes, on a historical scale...this is landmark stuff.

of course there is always room for nitpicking to an extent, it's how the Devs are kept on their toes. Just stop and smell the roses every now and then :)

Watched the HQ video on TV. My God! The minor aliasing I noticed on my laptop are practically indiscernible now. So clean!

So you're a developer on the game??!!

Anything else u can share w us? To help ease the worries of some on the gameplay, like will there be any upgrading or customization on the weapons? Or any other systems in place to enhance the gameplay?

Loving what I'm seeing so far btw.

Sorry, have not seen anything, even on PC that comes close.

After seeing all of these GIFs and WEBMs, I went from being cautiously optimistic (previous reveals) to "OH MY FUCKING GOD, I HAVE TO PLAY THIS GAME".

The power of a proper presentation!

I can't see anything topping it till maybe Uncharted 4...maybe.

But this and Driveclub both look bonkers good. Far better than I would have ever predicted the first wave of releases could look. I mean, this is not far off being; CGI: The Video Game.

And some recent rumors have suggested the visuals in Uncharted 4 tops Order 1886, I am unable to fathom it, even though ND has been the top dog at making best looking cinematic experiences on the PlayStation hardware, closely matched by Santa Monica, Guerilla Games and Sucker Punch.

Absolutely. There's really no doubt that this is the best looking game we've seen so far.

Nothing comes close. If anyone disagrees, please don't just reply with a 'lol, no'. Provide some examples.

Yup, not sure what they were thinking with that twitch stream footage. Should have gone this route from the beginning.

Yup. Thanks for the webm. This specific one.. OMG

Blacklight seems awesome! I also love that the thermite gun is being used to draw a trail of smoke and then ignited in this vid. If there is one thing they can do it is to increase the sounds and recoil if possible and also improve the hit reaction.

Yeah, it's insane, and what's even more insane, this is RaD, we have QD, ND and SSM's shit to see yet.

God of War 4, I can't even begin to imagine.

One thing to note though, in the downloaded Gametrailers footage there is some significant screen tearing.

I'm sure this kind of thing could be fixed from now until release though.

Things that don't impress me:

1) Screen tearing. LOTS and LOTS of it. I'm usually not sensitive to tearing, but this really needs attention
2) Enemy hit reactions are virtually non existent. They have great collapsing animations at the end, but the shots in between seem to have no reaction at all. After playing wolfenstein, kz etc, this really sticks out.
3) The walking/running animations for the NPCs need more polish. The switching is abrupt and robotic
4) AI needs tweaking. Looks pretty rudimentary.

What impressed me:

1) The melting metal, which seems to be realtime softbody deformation. Really hope such tech is used for puzzles and combat.
2) Visuals are far beyond what I imagined this console generation could deliver.
3) The action is starting look a lot more fun.

Can't wait for E3!

Do we know if it's coming from the video or the game? Gametrailers isn't exactly Gamersyde with their video quality.

Did we get any confirmation about screen tearing actually present in the game when they showed it to the press two weeks back or is it the problem with gametrailers video player and youtube?
