There's no way it'll look better than DriveClub. I just can't fathom that possibility so my expectations are at something Forza 5 level but with more effects and actual AA.

But Horizon is an open world series, which means I'll end up putting a lot more time into it for that fact alone. Free roam driving in a world littered with closed off circuit races, rallies, and in-traffic street races is the perfect formula for me.

i dont think it will be 60 fps and if they cut to 30 they have lots of resource to spend on the "wow" factor..
as u said horizon is open world....driveclub isnt...different type of games...driveclub itself need less resources

I fail to see how they're fundamentally different. FH's engine was a tweaked F4 engine, FH2 is using the F5 engine.

F5's engine isn't fundamentally different than F4's engine. The improvements are fairly minor.

Complain about lack of detail (dynamic lighting), weather, and night racing in Forza 5 but then say there's no difference.

Heh, ok. First it was about it being cross gen, and now it's about the game running on Forza 5 engine which should have been an obvious thing to predict (especially since we all thought the game wouldn't be cross gen).

Seems obvious that some have went down to that criticism now that recent info has proven that it really isn't a big deal that FH2 is cross gen. Sad.

I'm glad we could get all the cross-gen stuff clarified today, now hopefully people can enjoy the rest of the preview coverage this week without that playing on their minds.

Roll on Tuesday! :D

If the news was released properly and not through some gimped partnership with IGN the furore could have been dealt with swiftly. It's bad when you have a rep on the forum who can't say anything until IGN are poked into action.

Forza Horizon: "Fall 2014, probably September. Super sexy weather system and... shit tons of co-op/social stuff. 1080P and open-world, so you can road trip with your bros."

If nktrnl is anything to go by, which he has been right 9 out of 10.

So 1080p or last gen 720p.

Take your pick.

Wait so if ntkrnl was right so much doesn't that mean that Quantum Break was actually delayed? Sorry for the off topic but that just occurred to me.

Horizon 1 engine is gud. Would love to see 720p and the MSAA/FXAA combo return, but it could be tricky with the new weather system.

Anyone else noticed how this thread has suddenly slowed down traffic wise since that 'engine' tweet?, its pretty funny really and so transparent.

It's a bit sad, the state of affairs of many XB1 threads. At least the SSOD thread was overwhelmingly positive.

Looking forward to gameplay footage tomorrow.

Is it bad that I am more excited for all the FH2/DC comparison drama in the fall then the actual game itself? To be fair, I don't own a Xbone yet but it surely is getting harder to resist.

It would be unfair to be honest as Horizon is open world.

Well I brought the point up it was too much for fall when he dropped all the info. I guess someone agreed.

Also don´t forget you are comparing this to a launch game.

They always suffer from an extreme deadline.

FH2 will be one year into the lifecycle of X1 - engine should run much better by then.

Damn kind of feel bad for DC. If it hadn't been delayed it wouldn't have had to go head to head with FH2. If the first preview videos of FH2 look better than what we've seen of DC, Rushy am cry.

I doubt that, with FH2 being open world and all.

Btw, that boxart does look like italian and specifically tuscany countryside.

Media Tomorrow, right ?

ntkrnl has been wrong about a few dates actually. MS also referred to Quantum Break as a 2014 title in some press release thing at one point.

I think initially they were aiming for 2014 but weren't sure enough to stamp an official release date on it.

Even if XB1 version was based on 360. Whats the big deal?

Isnt Uncharted 4 doing the same thing with uncharted 3 engine?

Yep. UC4 is being built off the ported Last of Us engine from what they have said. The F5 engine is built off the F4 engine i think.

I'm honestly not trolling. I own Forza Horizon.
thats a funny excuse to troll forza 5 if i ever saw one..

come on tomorrow!! both the news and some responses will be AAA entertainment.

I stand corrected for engines and so looking forward experiencing X360 version, Sumo is a great choice!

Helios, will the X360 version support X360 wheels as FH1?

yo amar, I'm not helios but you can bet your ass that horizon2 360 will support every wheel under the sun that 360 ever supported.
Also I agree that sumo is a fuckin' great choice, given the t10-playground tech they will come up with the goods for sure.

I am waaaay more excited for the xbone version though! 8)

Edit: Beaten. Poop to DerFeef.
Really interesting to see that, so I guess Forza Horizon 2 on 360 is less a cross-gen game and more like some sort of expansion pack or total conversion that puts FH2's map and cars into FH1. Goes into what I was saying about this stuff likely being easier with racing games than some other genres.
Funnily enough his avatar IS of a lawyer. Or I'm really misremembering my Boondocks characters.

I booted Horizon a few weeks ago, the (locked?) 30fps doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would, and the game is pretty fun. Sadly I have a jasper, and that shit sounds like an irate turbine even when idle. So waiting until summer to bust out the AC and play the 360 backlog, since it'll likely mitigate the noise.

I've worked with Sumo on a number of games down the years, so i know they will knock the 360 version out of the park!

The Crimson Kid

what are you waiting for
Great news about the engine split. Seems like the best solution for both versions of the game. If they just stuck with the original engine from Horizon 1, that would likely work well on 360 but might not be impressive enough for what people expect from a next-gen sequel. If they just downported the XBox One version to the 360, then the rock-solid performance we saw in the original Horizon would likely be compromised.

As someone who is looking much more at the 360 version at this point in time, I'm happy to hear that they aren't throwing aside a perfectly fine engine from Horizon 1 for an untested downported version of whatever they are using for XBox One.

I just hope that Sumo can bring as many of the gameplay-relevant additions from the Xbox One version to the 360 version as possible.

It wont look better than Driveclub, I'm 99% sure about that but at least it'll be open world and have weather.

Hoping for some snow rallys

Snow or bust.
Snow would make it the racer of forever.

I'll be happy if the rally stuff is just fully integrated into the open world instead of separate modes. Free-roam off-roading rally goodness would be a gaming dream come true.

And I should clarify that setting my expectations at Forza 5 with AA is still fine by me - I think Forza 5 looks fucking fantastic. So if that's the baseline, I'll be good, as long as it has real AA and those now classic Horizon draw distances.

The way they worded the announcement makes me think the weather system is only on the Xbox One version,

It really does...

I wonder what the shitstorm will be like if weather is X1 exclusive...

Anyone else notice that the boxart shows the car off the road? I wonder if they'll be an increased focus on off road driving.

What does one have to do with the other? If they were both multiplat...cool. But if one game looks better than the other, you can only get one game for one system.

Come on games don't release in a vacuum just because they are exclusive. Just like Forza gets compared to GT gets compared to Project Cars.

If FH2 ends up looking better DC people will end up having a negative perception of it because it's already been delayed.

FH2 is never going to look better than DC.

FH2 is on the weaker hardware and is open world.

Its almost impossible for this game to looks better then DC, except if it have an awesome art direction. But thats not a problem, its not even fair to compare since FH2 will be an open world game.

Well, thats my opinion. I want DC a lot, but even without even looking to FH2 Im already more excited by it. Hope they bring a better marketing to it then DC is getting though.

There is absolutely a difference between Forza 4 and Forza 5's engine. I had to learn the hard way, thinking that my type of driving in Forza 4 and Horizon would work in 5....NOPE.

One thing I like to do when hitting long turns in Horizon is alternate between pushing on the gas and releasing the pedal every 1 or 2 seconds. This usually gets me around the corner nicely. Try doing that shit on Forza 5, if you don't brake, you dun fucked up.

A lot less than that.

He was wrong on tier 2 launch dates, TF bundle happening( referencing to the one he showed as it was only a special edition given to respawn), Quatuam break date and probably some else I forgot.
