How is it official when the headline reads The Last Guardian May Be Cancelled? Obviously they have sources and those sources are not always correct. Either way it's good news IMO because it just adds extra pressure on Sony to say something about it. Don't we deserve some kind of real official update from Sony instead of saying they laugh at this rumor?

That's an edited headline. The tweet you are referencing explicitly stated the game isn't cancelled.

Because you weren't here for the start of the story. That was not the way it was titled. They didn't change the title until after Scott Rhodes himself tweeted it was bullshit; and only then they were like "LOLOLOL GUYS IT MAY BE CANCELLED NOW"

On top of that, we do deserve something. Which is why E3 is right around the friggin' corner!

Thanks to this thread I finally put ICO in my download queue last night.

I played SotC thanks to PS+ last year and loved the hell out of it. The only place left to go are the roots.

I had no idea there was an IGN Russia.

also, completely forgot until just now that Jack Tretton left Sony. :\ Hype downgrade for tomorrow's conference.

We will get to see this guy

Its the same as with FF15. We will ***** about it not being shown for a short period of time, look up the next most likely date (i.e. TGS) and appropriately hype ourselves for maybe nothing again.

They added the "May" after a Sony representative denied the cancellation.

That's not what it said originally.

That's an edited headline. The tweet you are referencing explicitly stated the game isn't cancelled.

Then I take it back, IGN should not have done that. That is uncalled for.

Why would they wait till after E3 and kill all their positive news?

The thread it would create would be apocalyptic. ANY other news Sony had at E3, including Project Beasts, would be overshadowed by the justified controversy.

One almost wants to peer into such a parallel universe :p

Here's a tip on how to get news...

If someone refuses to tell you the status on something, lie and make up a negative story about it. This will force the person to give a response on it, even if they didn't want to.

IGN - weaksauce journalism at its worst.

Fuck man, I honestly can't tell what's going on with this game anymore. Sony is constantly saying "it's not cancelled!" yet have shown nothing in, what, 7 years? And to top it all off, it seems that people even on GAF think that this game is still coming. I know a lot of people joke about it, but I've been seeing some that truly think it will come at some point, or even be shown at the conference.

Sony needs to put up or shut up and stop giving people who can't seem to let go some tiny hope to hang on.

At this point it is clear that the game was either completely overhauled or re-started from almost scratch at some point. For the past few years every time a story is written about The Last Guardian it's always met with jokes and anger from the people looking forward to the game. Sony knows this, I'm sure they see the massive delays as an embarrassment, especially since they are a Japanese company. They gain nothing from giving out tidbits of info or saying it's coming to PS4 or really saying anything about it, they'll confirm it's still in active development but they won't say anything else, they don't want anymore news about the game.

In my opinion, Sony will eventually re-announce the game at some point, and the game will come out within 4-6 months. Maybe even sooner. They aren't going to risk announcing the game to then delay a few months again.

I think banning IGN for this E3 week is reasonable. Not as punishment, as nothing will change at ign, but as a gesture that this type of action is not acceptable.

The "May be cancelled" edit is pretty hilarious.

IGN: "Game is cancelled."

Sony: "Game is not cancelled."

IGN: "Sony says the game is not cancelled, so the game may be cancelled. We are working to find more info from other sources."

You're actually going to put that game next to The Last Guardian for progress updates?

I think we deserve nothing from Sony, they will tell us when they are ready to tell us. Remember all the tears we have shed are a result of them announcing it way too early and also because it was way too ambitious for the PS3 (much like FF15). And you missed it when the headline was more 'explosive'.

Also I will put it next to TLG. FF15 was shown before TLG (almost 10 year anniversary!) and despite SE telling us we would get regular updates last E3, we have got nothing and shock, they will not be at this E3 too.

"Internal sources" strike again!

I wonder if gaming journalists who actually work hard to confirm reports get offended by stuff like this.

Gold.

He had excellent stage presence last year. Not a hint of anxiety, just very relaxed and cool, gave off lots of positive vibes without overdoing it and read from the teleprompter like a champ. Hard to believe that was his first E3 on stage.

One example Ueda gave was carrying barrels of food around and placing them in a way that climbing the monster at that spot gave you access to a ledge high above.

I can see why it's taking so long, not even considering that the team was super small for the first couple years. In any other game they'd just script an action like that and lock in where you could actually place the barrels. If everything is completely physics based and linked to the AI that's an easy recipe for frustrating gameplay if they don't get it right.

If this mess does anything positive it should be that Sony should give even 10 seconds to the game to say something like it's still alive, watch this space for 2015 or something. Doesn't matter if they throw out a date, it can be delayed as much as they want to delay it again lol.

Ignoring it after this ruckus won't make for good headlines on Monday/Tuesday.

Loved it too. And to give so much stage time to indies was a great move from Sony. Better than sporting a tshirt of Rime and call it a day.

I get kinda pissed off when sites like DualShockers build large audiences by posting bullshit E3 lists and publishing articles about everything thuway tweets. But I know that IGN knows better than to sacrifice credibility for one article, so I feel like there must be more to this story.
I expect wagon circling from people like Arthur Gies, but not you Jason.

Can't it just be that IGN fucked up? That's the simplest answer.

Clearly Nintendo will provide the evidence that TLG has not been cancelled.

the funny thing is that this thread got more replies more than what the last guardian will actually get when its finally announced lol
You are totally underestimate any PS games. PS games are deadly popular in the internet. Even xbox and PC fans will check it out.

I thought it was first shown last year? As far as TLG goes I do think Sony should be giving us a better update than they are waiting for the right time to announce anything. With this latest update from Rhodes and laughing about its cancellation means if they don't show anything again at E3 this latest rumor from IGN will again keep coming up.

Apart from that Ueda also hinted that there might be more large monsters around the fortress.

I don't know what's worse...the fact that IGN reported on a rumor, or that even after SONY jumps in and say's it's not, they won't take the article down and they say they are commited to getting the full story. *facepalm*
