because unlike everyone in this thread they weren't working 24 hours a day on a weekend to try to sort this mess out.
I would love that excuse for my job. "Hey I know I fucked up and it's 100% my fault but it's the weekend." By that logic they shouldn't have posted such a high profile story on the weekend.

Just wait. Total surprise, megaton even, at E3.. fully playable TLG, confirmed release in August on PS4.

#believe

I doubt it will be playable, but a major sony employee jumping in quickly to squash the rumor gives me much hope it will be shown.

Holy shit it's already 90+ pages? Dafuq? Looks like many many people are waiting for this game...

Imagine the response when people see a visually upgraded PS4 version of Last Guardian at the E3 conference

god this is part of why I love the industry. Aside from my pure love of games, I love the fucking energy of these announcements.

What if.......... What if they payed IGN to say it was cancelled.........

Wait but IGN would never agree to do that because it'll ruin their reputation.

I tried my best... *leaves thread shamefully*

So now ign says TLG may be cancelled and reports thqt Scott Rhode said it is not cancelled. Unless their source is yoshida or someone very high up the ladder shouldnt they let go of this already

If they had the time to change "official" to "may" after Sony told that the game was not canceled, what excuse do they have?

They actually changed the article multiple times, that was not the only verbal change. They changed the title, they posted the update, they couched their language on the front page (three different article header changes there).

Someone was working, and doing a fucked job at it to boot.

If this was Giant Bomb they would have taken down the story, admit they were wrong, accept a little egg on their face, make a joke and move on. IGN's current staff just doesn't care.

TLG is THE megaton. I don't think there is a game in the industry that could get the E3 crowd more worked up. There will be plenty of big titles there, but when/if TLG gets shown tomorrow, it would, by itself, make it one of the biggest E3s in ages.

If it was Giant Bomb, they would've waited for someone else to run the story.

It doesn't excuse the error, it explains the relative sluggishness in being able to do in-depth follow-up.

Most of IGN's staff are not working over the weekend, some relevant people in the chain of command might not be reachable, whatever source purportedly told them this (this is the second russian outlet to incorrectly run this story this week) might not be reachable right now. They issued an interim correction to note the current state of affairs, which is that Sony denies the story--not through any formal denial or by reaching out to IGN, but through Twitter in an off-handed remark (which is fine, they don't need to reach out to IGN, but it drives home the level the process is operating at right now) but that they had a source in Russia that told them this. if you're expecting more substantial followup, it's not going to be overnight on a weekend, it'll be when they're able to run through the process again, reach out to the source again, etc.

Is it actually surprising to think that a business would have lower than usual staffing levels on the weekend and that this impacts agility when responding to ongoing events?

I think he did a wonderful job
at click baiting.

How do you even justify publishing an article like this two days before the biggest press conference of the year? This is why I haven't been to IGN in like 3 years.

I get kinda pissed off when sites like DualShockers build large audiences by posting bullshit E3 lists and publishing articles about everything thuway tweets. But I know that IGN knows better than to sacrifice credibility for one article, so I feel like there must be more to this story.

even if so IGN still completely misused the term official

Again, why doesn't IGN at least apologize for the blunder and try and salvage some credibility and integrity, if they aren't going to pull the article?

My tinfoil theory is its because they're still nom nom nom'n on the clicks. If anybody think that this doesn't boosts IGN's traffic, they're kidding themselves. No matter how "big" a site like IGN is, anybody would love the ad revenue that this is receiving right now. People are checking and re-checking the website and IGN is loving every bit of it.

Once the article cools down, I'm sure they'll update it again for some more traffic. It's a gross practice, IMO.

IGN might not get banned on GAF (it should, for E3 atleast) but it's banned on my device now.

So are you saying ICO and Shadow are games tons of people bought and played and are talked about by today's gamers? Doubtful.

What exactly are today's gamer's? Those games have a huge following. ICO may not have sold great but SOTC did and is still considered one of the best games ever made. They have also both been remastered on the PS3 so obviously Sony thinks there is still a sizable market.

Got it, thanks.

You don't think IGN has one guy working on the weekend that can yank an article?

So title changes went from.

"The Last Guardian is officially cancelled"

There source was supposed to be a Sony insider, that really isn't very "official" but okay.

The inFamous laughing over dinner tweet is posted. Article title changes to...

"The Last Guardian in cancelled"

because I guess at this point they must be thinking their source is still right but Shu and co. refuse to announce the bad news themselves.

And then after minutes that feel like hours of mocking and more Sony confirmation, finally it changes to...

"The Last Guardian may be cancelled"

and a promise to update as the new unfolds, yeah, I think the news is over at least till Monday IGN.

I have much less of a problem with IGN posting the story (assuming it was a reliable source who happened to be wrong this time), than how they refuse to change their claims after they have been officially debunked.

If only they've change the officially to "RUMOUR, TAKE IT WITH BIG GRAIN OF SALT", people wouldn't jump on them. Or maybe this was a desperate effort to make sony come out and say something about the game. if it was just a rumour, they wouldn't need to comment on that...

hmmm, ign should really do two other articles about agent and half life to hear rockstar and valve!

Yeah but then again TLG is such an easy target for click baiting sites like IGN. Kotaku did the same some time ago with their fake rumor of FFVersus being cancelled.

Intentional or not, this news has stirred up some huge publicity. If the game is unveiled at Sony's press conference it will definitely be the hypest thing at this year's E3.
