All the past complaints about how Link's Hyrule warriors design was too girly looking are really funny in retrospect now

Game looks amazing, Day 1

I love the idea of recreating the pacing and feel of Zelda 1 in a 3D world. That's different then "LOL, Zelda is open world too!" Zelda 1 allowed freedom of progression through a campaign, letting you create your own order with different benefits and tradeoffs for your choices. Modern "open world" games like Batman, GTA, or Assassin's Creed (no offense intended to those games, they're great), usually make progression in the main campaign linear and the "openness" comes from being able to do side missions anywhere in the game world.

This is different, potentially. Link Between Worlds did this on a smaller scale where secondary items could be rented and status increases can be pursued in any order. Now imagine doing that in a huge 3D world, but without the disconnected areas of LBW. Also, I think Aonuma was alluding to the fact that you can take the dungeons in any order and that they would contain secondary items. Those secondary items would then be used to unlock different parts of the open world. Just like in Zelda 1.

This is a dream come true for longtime Zelda fans. Truly bridging the gap between 2D and 3D. Art style and music were amazing too. I feel that we just got the first peek at something truly special.

We got confirmation that this was all in-engine and not CGI which is great news. Obviously these were "cinematic" camera angles and pre-scripted scene, but it bodes VERY well.

People are upset about the graphics?! It looks amazing!

But I'm hesitant. I don't think the final product will look that good. Seems too good to be true.

Open World is flipping amazing.

Do not like he art style at all and Link looks like a flipping girl. Also expected a bit more gameplay but hey at least its not cgi. Nevertheless, Zelda just has not got me excited since Twilight Princess and this goes with the pattern. Maybe next years E3 will show it off better (can be said about a lot of E3 titles this year unfortunately)

Looks great. I hope the actual game looks this good.

It's probably significant that they showcased a bow instead of a sword. I hope it's her main item

I actually prefer that she use a Sword. Now that link is a girl I think it will be like using a 3D Lucina from Fire Emblem :p

Says the guy with a little anime girl avatar.
Anime = no sale for me too.

You do realize your avatar is straight up anime style right? Anime can be any animation from Japan. I'm not sure what you people are thinking. Do you equate all anime with DBZ and Sailor Moon or something?

I can't wait to see what Link's green tunic looks like in this. Also for a world like this we need a weather and day/night system. Hopefully the weather system kinda changes the colors of the world depending on what it's doing. Finally, I'm worried it might share the same problems as ALBW, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Same here, my friend.
This looks so gorgeous, but I don't want ALBW's boring puzzle design in a 3D HD Zelda game.

This E3 has to be one of the most exiting ever.

First Bloodborne sells me a PS4 and now Zelda a WiiU, could not be happier about what has been revealed the last few days

As a perk i can play Witcher 3 on the PS4 :) since my PC is from 2010

I agree. I wouldn't even care if we played as as girl, just don't make it Link then.

I like my characters to be characters. I like how each Link is similar, each Impa, each Ganon, etc.

So yeah, I would be annoyed if the next Ganon was blond and pale and short and fat.
I'd be annoyed if the next Zelda was a boy and a lazy slob or something and so on.

They're "reincarnations" with some differences but they're essentially the same character. (i.e. Link starting out the game as lazy, sleeping in, slacking but springing into action and determination when called upon.)

Exactly, I have absolutely no problem whatsoever to play as Zelda or another girl. In a way I'd even prefer that I think, it'll feel fresh at the very least. But don't go changing established characters too much, and judging by how Link looks in this piece, they've slightly overdone it IMO.

Unless this turns out to be his sister or something, hence the similarity to Link, and there's a (optional) 2 player co-op. Or something along those lines, I'm just thinking out loud.

so it being some dated chauvinistic chivalry fantasy is more important to you than mixing things up a little

ok

like link couldnt save the princess if she was a girl, or couldnt be in love with zelda if she was a girl

i literally am weeping for you irl, how does one cope?

You're quite quick to jump on a post and attack.

I'm just saying that Link so far has been a boy and I want him to stay that way.

Things can be mixed up in any way, I just don't want to see Link being mixed up.

Make new characters, just don't change the existing ones.

My money would be on 720p/60fps. During the albw iawata asks they went on about how important 60fps was for the game. I think they releases 1080p shots for games that ended up 720p before. Mario kart I think?

Indeed, and a compelling reason to make Link relatable to more than just us dudes.

Why don't we do the same for Mario, Bowser, Master Chief, Nathan Drake, James Bond, Laura Croft, and any other character? Might as well make everyone relatable to everyone, right?

Link's a guy. He wears green clothes. He has a sword. These are all character traits that make Link, Link.

I think it's more than acceptable for a company to want to appeal to a larger demographic, but I don't think changing an established character is the right way to do so. In my opinion, creating a new character and a new IP based around that character would be significantly more meaningful than changing a character that's been a guy for the past 28 years.

Jesus those animations... reminds me of the demon boar in Mononoke, at the start of the movie.

High res Twilight Princess vibes anyone? Looks just like Faron Woods. Kinda neat how it seems like they're blending every art style from past games.

By the beard of Zeus this looks brilliant. Loving the art style and the size of the world. The bow in this will have some various bomb like ammo I presume then? Looks like you'll be able to switch on the fly.

Love it.

I think Link is still a guy, and I think he should stay that way. Changing the gender of an established character just to do so is pretty shallow, in my opinion. If we want a female character, I'd much rather they make Zelda playable.

I won't be angry if Link is a girl, of course, but I think it's unnecessary.

It's so obviously a chick.

1 - They hid her face the entire time until the last second.
2 - She has a god damn ponytail
3 - Very feminine Face, and body
4 - The camera angles they used purposely protecting showing clear looks at her face
5 - SHE LOOKS LIKE A GOD DAMN GIRL hype

My friend raised an interesting point to me about Link's dominant hand, basically the bow action shown would mean Link is right-handed in this game.

I think this all adds up to this being Zelda, and not Link. I think the cloak she wears, which has the hylian coat of arms on it, is supposed to be the clue. And no sword in sight, Link always gets a sword, before even getting a quest. Aonuma mentions they were using The Legend of Zelda as inspiration, and the title card said the Legend of Zelda. Have we ever gotten a reveal without a subtitle that wasn't a tech demo?

If you marry this to Brave, it seems even more relevant.

Mario, Bowser, Master Chief, Nathan Drake, etc are all actual set characters. Link is not. Link is many characters. Link is a placeholder for the player. Link is a legacy. Link being a girl one generation is not the same as Mario becoming a girl, because Link could be anybody whilst Mario is Mario.

Well...crap. I might be going PC + Wii U for this generation. That looked amazing. It's so good I don't even care that they didn't announce Majora's Mask 3D like I was expecting.

If Link is a girl, that'd be neat. If he's just a really feminine guy, that'd be cool too. Not every dude needs to be a grizzled hulk. I'm just glad to see a Zelda trailer that instantly hooks me again.

Not especially keen on the art style as cel shading has never been especially appealing to me, but the prospect of a huge open world Hyrule based around exploration could be incredible. Shame we weren't shown more considering all the build-up.
