Great news, but no clue why the hell they decided to wait 30 minutes after the livestreamed tourney to show him off. Cool to see a Mr. G&W confirmation too.
They're confused, they're probably thinking about Sal's latest leak which mentioned Lucas is (probably) getting cut. Nothing's been hinted at one way or the other with the extra SF reps.
He had that alt in Brawl as well!

Anyway, I will be the only person on Earth to say this, but I hope he's based on the new TV show Pac, voiced by Erin Matthews, complete with Betrayus as an Assist Trophy voiced by Sam Vincent. Would rock so hard.
Of course, the show is loaded with my fav local Canadian voice actors that I grew up watching and hearing. I mean fucking CHEETOR is Blinky!

Round 1 (Pre-E3 2013): "Animal Crossing Guy" (Villager), Wii Fit Trainer, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Mii (Mii Fighters), Little Mac
Round 2 (Pre-Smash Direct): Chrom, Palutena, Shulk, Chorus Men from Rhythm Heaven, "Pokémon from X & Y" (Greninja)
Round 3 (Pre-E3 2014): Possible Lucas Removal, Character DLC is a thing

He was the -only- person to name Wii Fit Trainer.

It's worth remembering that in Brawl, six newcomers were hidden as unlockables (Lucario, Snake, ROB, Sonic, Toon Link, Wolf) and only two, Snake and Sonic, were known before release. The Gematsu leak may well be on the money, but it isn't necessarily exhaustive and complete. If we take it as correct, the only characters presently unaccounted for are Shulk, Chrom, and the Chorus Men, and even if all three are concealed until the release of the game, that does seem on the low side for surprises, especially if all the named returning veterans apart from Luigi are available from the start. So I am hesitant to rule out any inclusion that has not been explicitly named.

Why do people have so much faith in this? Everyone was predicting Palutena since the game was announced (And especially after the leak that), while his Pokemon "prediction" didn't even name which Pokemon was in. Did anyone even confirm that was the same person?
That first prediction was actually unusual and people noticed when it was right. The second one is a laundry list of fan favorites with only one particularly unusual pick, and that pick hasn't been confirmed yet.
Round-table live-blogs confirmed he's using the World design but transforms into 8-bit for some attacks
