3-3 is the confrontation with the one who controlled all this, and a battle of freedom against manipulation. The Old Monk hoped the golden robe was a way to escape his mortality, yet the garment simply uses him for its own interests before leaving him to the realities of his body. Then it takes on another host looking to restore their humanity, tempting them with its power. But Slayer of Demons has benefited from escaping false hope's manacles, and so we see him/her triumph over a soul imprisoned by it.

One of the more interesting details about Tower of Latira and
the Old Monk is that the golden garb is actually the archdemon and not the host it takes. The cutscene when it takes on another host is very telling of this. After the player (the slayer of demons) kills the maneaters and approach the Old Monk through the stairs, the Old Monk summons a powerful red phantom to protect him from the player now that he's dying and too fragile to protect himself because the player took down the artificial heart before in 3-2 that gives him lifeforce and blocks the path to the maneaters and the monk's throne. Now that the he's slowly dying and summons a new powerful red phantom to protect him, the golden garb realizes that the summoned red phantom is a better host for its survival and leaves the Old Monk, who almost immediately dies when the golden garb that kept him alive left him.

God, I love Souls lore.

There's quite a lot of pages already, and I'm just jumping in unaware if this is news or not, but for all of those who have been dissin' that B-team who made DS2... fret not... because THIS game is made by the exact same team-- BUT it's helmed by Miyazaki!

As one who has played DS2 as his first Souls game this makes me quite hyped. I don't know what the exact differences between Souls 1 and 2 are but it can't go wrong if you take the things that worked in DS2 and let Miyazaki's ideas that made the other two Souls' games impressive, in as well!

This is wrong.

Was just running around Latria and the Valley in Demon's last night. Still trying to beat that damned Black Phantom who can run and roll around that swamp. Madness. The more I play replay the game, the more I appreciate Latria and the Valley. Both are very overwhelming areas.
Parrying is the best way to kill her, but you can also fire an arrow on her from afar to attract her to the small patch of land so you have more mobility. Weapons that can stun-lock easily will also help.

I didn't realize the giant heart belonged to the Old Monk. That's pretty freaky.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Just making sure, what exactly is Deckard Cain basing this "more Castlevania'ish" of?

Amazing. Never looked at it that way before.

The heart was ever so scary. The Old Monk never had a heart, mind. He merely took one and hung it up, using it whenever he wished, which was not often.

I dunno but I'm still holding my L. Whatever that means.
I'm afraid of your L :(

Are you afraid of my L?

Wait, what the fuck is an L?!

What if he's Miyazaki's secret NeoGAF account?

We're all complaining about no gameplay footage, but here's the King of Fantasy himself to personally enlighten us.

I would tattoo a Square Enix/Lightning logo onto my chest, wear a Hatsune Miku avatar (ew), and post on pop-GAF for month.

I would be really disappointed.

That's not all.
The artifical heart actually feed on the prisoners from the prison of hope (3-1). They are taken from cathedral/prison by the gargoyles, just like the player was after killing the Fool's Idol except the player struggles and drops down on a stairway. When the prisoners are processed in the heart they turn to demon's, those Man Centipedes you see in the swamp down below in 3-2. When the heart is cut down and dies you see Man Centipedes crawling out of the heart in the cutscene.

Ha!

Incredible.

So much of the lore is right in front of the player, but it really takes some critical thinking to put it together.

Love these posts. Nice work.

Wow. I will never get sick of replaying these games as long as I keep missing this stuff.
It makes complete sense that the man centipedes would be in the swamp because the vessels transport blood from the heart there.

From the looks of it there won't be too much Sun to praise in Bloodborne, we need to go back to Umbasa for all of our praising needs.

This whole thing makes me as giddy as a school girl getting finger banged by Justin Bieber. My mind is blown and I cannot wait to get my hands on this. This pretty much sums up my feelings.

Wow the GT guy impressions were amazing. Apparently game looks gorgeous and very close to trailer. One more interesting part there was another hunter fighting bad guys. You can help them or kill them. Not sure if it was NPC or another player. Very intriguing.

So excited for this.
