For better or worse U4 is going to make the Xbox One look like a joke. At some point in time I really wish Microsoft would have taken a look at what was happening around them.

XB1 will see some incredible looking games over it's lifespan just like PS4.

People should relax with PS4 is a beast. The reality is what the truth has always been. Naughty dog is a beast and a very talented team. They could make the Wii U sing songs. Imagine the possibilities if they were to develop exclusively on PC.

I actually wonder what they could get out of the WiiU!

I think it's mainly due to Naughty Dog's fantastic sense of art style. With the Uncharted series specifically, they tend to skew their character models towards a realistic, but still slightly stylized look that just simply works to avoid such an issue.

I think I've read they use mocap to capture the actors performance, but then hand animate in all the details and nuance in the end.

Seems to work better, where other games that just try to capture and just use it, and it doesn't work as well.

Damn Nate looks angry this time

As i said in the other thread, in-engine i believe, Last of Us and Uncharted also had insane looking (pre-rendered) in-engine cutscenes.
in game? Meaning the actual graphic fidelity of when you walk and shoot around? I don't believe it, especially not at 60 fps.

You have Driveclub that can't even get 60 fps 1080p with those graphics, and i should believe that Uncharted 4 is completely real time and at 60 fps? I know Naughty Dogs are some of the best at creating good graphics, but c'mon.

I'll remain skeptical until i actually see the game being played, and i'll be happy to eat crow (infact, i HOPE to eat crow).

I know you are concerned but.....

Those saying this was the last console generation were correct, who needs more than that?

Well, developers not as technically talented as Naughty Dog for a start. And while this is very, very impressive, if VR and 4K become big in a few years the power of the PS4 will already not suffice anymore.

But to the unbelievers; look at what Naughty Dog was able to achieve on an inefficient, ancient console with The Last of Us. Look at what Quantic Dream managed to render in realtime with nothing but a port of their last-gen engine. This in 1080p/60fps realtime is most certainly not impossible, especially when you remember that a big part of why it looks so realistic is thanks to the god-tier animation.

Now, if they can keep this level of detail in a action scene where an entire level is blowing up around Nathan Drake while everything remains at a stable 1080p/60fps, that's when this becomes fuckin sorcery. I'll have 'seeing Crysis in 2007' levels of graphic whore orgasms at that point.

Driveclub is going to be a game 2.5-3 years in the works. It was started before PS4 was finalized and had a bit of dev hell.

You're not impressed with the improvements they've made in a years time? In the end it's still a launch game, and we know how those go looking back at launch histories.

People are saying Driveclub 13 to Driveclub 14 is like a day / night change.

I'm saying Uncharted 4 looks a generation above it, and aiming at 60fps to boot.
Which is why i'm skeptical.

I believe it. Only the fact that if they decide to go with 1080p60fps for pre-rendered cut scenes, it won't fit a 50 gb bluray disc. So if in game graphic fidelity is that, then they can go real time for all cutscenes and save major space on the bluray.

Maybe this has something to with the updated SDK Cort was talking about?
Since ICE Team is housed within ND itself, not sure about either way it's rather crazy to start off a new generation like this and loving every second of it :D

Or with what Tidux was talking about (He's the one who confirmed the "Tropical" setting for the E3 trailer)

Later known to be GPGPU Rendering
"Future SDK improvements on PS4 will focus on GPGPU rendering. This is when delta between PS4 and X1 will magnify."

Isn't it a bit weird though still that they chose "Captured directly from a PS4" as their wording over "realtime" or "in game"? I mean realtime sounds a LOT more impressive and their wording was vague

They didn't want to cause mass heart attacks during the press conference.

Threw this together real quick. Tried to make sure each image was from a cutscene to make it a fair comparison, showing what Nate looked like in previous games cutscenes. Not the best quality on some of the images, but it was just a quick google search - so I'm sure it gets the point across just fine.

AC3 had damn good faces, inside the Animus.
outside the Animus, IIRC was done by a secondary team as a rush job and that's why it looked like dog shit.

They were decent...

But I mean, nothing compared to Uncharted or TLOU. And that's my point. When you think that 'good' faces this gen are gonna look as good as the Unity shot I posted, then 'great' faces probably are gonna end up looking like Nate.

But the gameplay will not look this good. It's unpossible.

That's what I'm thinking. It'll be like a final fantasy for ps3 probably where cutscenes are real time but gameplay has to lower graphics to make up for all the other shit going on during gameplay segments. Even so, looks incredible

PC isn't a closed platform, so....

Here is the only explanation:

the ICE team which resides at naughty dog helped build the PS4. the PS4 was built with the thought that with the engine that ND would use now and in the future. Its like iOS being optimized for iOS device hardware only. Any ND game is fully optimized for PS4 hardware because its their OWN system

Not surprised. The PS4 is already doing amazing things.

Naughty Dog will bring it to an even higher level as usual.

Why not? The more we get into this gen the worse it is going to be. As if I wanted Microsoft to do this. They should have been balls to the wall, engineering something that was fatter, bigger, and more powerful than the PS4. And all they wanted was a mass audience for Kinect. It's terrible imo. It will ruin them this gen. I hope they come back fighting but I have my doubts they even want to be here sometimes.
your opinion of ruining them is so far of the truth, the fact that the ps4 is selling extremely well does not mean that the X1 is not selling, like i said, comparing both consoles is not gonna yield any significant theories of how things are gonna play out, a lot of people seem to be ruling out the X1 just after 8 months after its release, its all gonna come down to games and so far both companies have good ideas

I can understand why some would be skeptical because it looks so much better than anything any of us has ever seen and also the fact that half the damn games we see nowadays seem to get downgraded from their initial reveal. But I never doubt this studio. Incredibly talented crew.

Misterxmedia on suicide watch?

This is fucking crazy. Naughty Dog are really the masters of engines and development. I don't think any other company can do what they can with such a hardware. And people were saying that PS4 games had already hit their limit.

Lol you think? You should see his latest entry, saying UC4 for will get downgraded and posting pictures of UC and TLOU differences.

On topic:
I really want to believe :( I mean, when they were teasing TLOU they said the same, that it was captured directly from the ps3 and we all know it turned out to look great. So I really believe this will also be the same case.

I speak for myself (and maybe others) here when I say this is the most shocking moment I've had with a video game since Mario 64, the first time I played a 3D game.

i totally agree. i really thought those days were gone forever because of all the negativity on the internet and all the diminishing returns bullshit but if this is real, and i suspect that even if its not, it will be very very close, then this is one of those moments. I can't believe what i'm seeing. amazing.

Comparing Uncharted 4 to The Last of Us or previous Uncharted titles is like comparing apples and oranges. One utilizes technology of a brand new system, with improved graphics capabilities and new possibilities for development. The other was launched in 2006 and had a wide variety of hardware limitations.

As for Drive Club, it's a different developer who may not have the funding and resources that ND have.

Of all of these models I prefer UC4 model the most. It's so much more mature and it gives the vibe of an experienced (but still naive for getting in this shit again lololol) Drake. Being older definitely makes his character more enjoyable. I hope he's to be in his 40s.
