Amiibo Packaging (Nintendo Figurine) - Wallets 'am cry

Dear Best Buy Gamer Club Unlocked, please be kind and consider these games like you do the Skylanders Toys. $8-$12 for these will be very justifiable.

My MtG days put me off rarities, but at the same time I can't see them manufacturing as many Rosalinas as they do Marios. I just hope something with a $9.99 MSRP doesn't cost me $60 on Ebay.

The unfortunate truth is this is exactly what happens and is likely to happen, unless Nintendo makes these widely available at mass market retail. The resellers will buy them all up to flip on ebay.

What I'm wondering is, how do they work with the other games? Mario Kart 8 could use them like Smash (CPU players that evolve), but what about Captain Toad?

These could also be a good opportunity to get figurines for those characters that are not as "popular" as Mario, such as Ness or Captain Falcon.

IGN has an interview up:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/06/12/e3-2014-nintendo-on-amiibo-smash-bros-and-custom-figurines

it sounds like games will have specific versions of amiibo's, even while they are cross game compatible. a smash bros amiibo will come with certain abilities a non smash ambiibo would be missing.

When you use the Smash Bros. Mario amiibo in Smash Bros., it's able to do all of the different things designed for that game. When you take that amiibo and you use it in different games, it's not the Smash Bros. Mario, it's just a Mario. It's a more simple use for [amiibo functionality] but it's able to do those two things

the bit about them working on the idea of ordering an amiibo version of your mii and no size restrictions on amiibos... >____>

Nintendo know they're going to sell gazillions of these figures regardless of how practically useful they prove to be. I'd buy a bunch just to sit on a shelf.
This, Nintendo is incapable of having a decent crossover toyline.
So I would buy all of these just to have all my favorite Nintendo characters in a cohesive line.

Edit: Hell Nintendo sucks at licensing their characters for toys in general.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

If I understand the interview correctly, the pics provided in the OP is an Amiibo line of product itself for Super Smash Bros; they will be compatible with other games, though details are scarce as to how they will interact with other supported software.

I'll probably pick up a Villager Amiibo just because I love the character and series. Otherwise will probably be ignoring these.

That makes their usefulness seem sorta shallow. Maybe that's what they are going for but I wonder how that will affect their ability to really take off if they don't do all that much.

It's partly the bonus game content, and partly the fact that both kids and adults are going to go apeshit over the ability to buy little plastic versions of their favorite Nintendo characters. It's more akin to Disney's Infinity strategy than, say, Skylanders.

Here is an idea. I remember Reggie saying MK8 is going to be the first game to use Amiibo. I assume Nintendo will use that aspect for promoting other games. Games that are to be released? Games like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker? Maybe they will sell or add an Amiibo Figurine of Captain Toad to a box set with a copy of the game. And when you use that Figurine in MK8 he'll be uploaded into the game not just that but with a wide range of data like having turnips and pickaxes as items. what do you guys think?

How would that work for balance I.e people who don't have that figure? Keep your expectations in check :p

I'm so glad they're not blind bagged.

I can still remember how disappointed I felt when I got a Croagunk out my first Rumble U Gacha. Staring at his ugly face and thinking did I really spend £4 on this.

Well it could work both ways? Other people just don't have it, or it can just be shared in that gaming session. And my expectations are always low when it come to video games nowadays.

Depends on how much they cost, i will most likely get the Villager one as it looks a bit like my Mii (in my avatar <<<<) i will paint the jumper the same as my Mii though.

So how do amiibos work again?

Also where can I preorder?

NFC, place them on the Wii U gamepad and it scans in and can save data. The 3DS will get a dongle attachment later next year too.

They're way too big but I guess they're like that so they can charge more. I was hoping for smaller figures like the Pokemon ones, they were ace and could fit in capsule machines.

davepoobond

you can't put a price on sparks
So you're saying this will be a huge success for Nintendo and that it could possibly be the key to making the Wii U a minor success rather than a failure?

I'm inclined to think that these figurines will not do anything for the wii u. But Nintendo will make a killing off them.

It's sort of like Pokemon cards.

Nintendo needs to do the Pokemon series but the box contains a random Pokemon. Then you could get Shiny versions or maybe a exclusive Pokemon that is only available in toy form. Actually don't, I don't want PokeGaf bullying little kids and creeping out parents in the toy aisle's of America.

That'd be cool. Make them a bit smaller maybe to make them as cheap as possible. Make them blind bags. Make it so you scan them in you get the pokémon in the game with something special like an Amiibo exclusive attack or hold item. Make a chance you can get a shiny one. Profit.

Didn't they already do this exact thing with Pokemon Rumble? They just didn't advertise/do much with it.

When they do this for Pokemon coliseum for the Wii U or Pokemon for the 3DS we're all fucked, you guys know that, right?

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
I wonder why it took them this long to start this. They even made the Wii U controller with it in mind, I guess this stuff just takes forever to coordinate?

Would like a time machine so I can go forward and get one of these and people stop fucking saying "am cry" and other nonsense horseshit. Why is that old cliche shit still accepted/used?

The figures look great. Like the art style and would like to have a small collection of the figures that I like, bonus is that they work in games also. I assume that we can have 2 marios or other figures with different stats right? My daughter will have a few I'm sure and would like her to have her own stats and play info. Guess I'll build another shelf for these to go with her 20+ skylanders and infinity figures. At least they look cool to me and her.

I wonder if the built in NFC was thought of for other things then they went this way. Would be cool to get additional stuff from playing cards or other physical things. I have a shitload of TMNT and garbage pail cards and would like to have a newer collection of cards with newer gaming related images/info.

Well, the first Skylanders blew up around a year before the Wii U came out. I don't know how long the turnaround on putting new things in the controller is for these guys, but I guess they put it in as a reaction to that. I'm just surprised it took two years to actually happen, I'd love to hear the story about that.

The 'H' stands for hentai.
You know what, I just want official Nintendo figures of my favorite Nintendo characters like Princess Zelda, Kirby, Samus, and Mario. I buy Nintendo figures, Nintendo gets my money, that is a pretty good deal for me.

The fact that they are compatible with a Wii U that I will likely buy and my 3DS is just a bonus.
