Yuh, sorry. But we have internal metrics to meet. :\

Which means easily traceable data on things like views, view time, regions viewing, etc. Which means services like YT and FB.

Otherwise 1080P/60FPS as it was originally shown, all day, erry day. EDIT: 'Cept our servers would esplode.
Very cool that you're looking into this.

Though I have to ask, why not both? A YT/FB upload and a 1080p/60fps upload on Konami's site or somewhere else? Of course servers exlploding is one thing, but isn't seeing the response to actual 1080p/60fps footage on sites like these also worth something?

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
The lighting is really impressive

I don't like how subdued Snake is though.

This man was 9 years in a coma, give him time.

Edit: I can't stop watching this gameplay video, the excitement for this game is almost unbearable.

Yeah, I'm hearing kinda conflicting reports on it right now. There may be a 1080P/60FPS version at a later point, but that's not what my team is focused on right now. Stay tuned.

It's weird that someone reported they used radios and we didn't get to see that...

But overall I am incredibly excited for this, and this is clearly going to be the greatest MGS game of all time, and probably one of my favorite games of all time.

Will it dethrone MGS3? I think so.
MGS3 is my favorite for now, still. Playing it as much as I have, though, and especially after having played GZ, I find it had to believe this won't top it. Even though I don't care for the mother base stuff, much. The mechanics are just so much better, on top of letting us choose how we want to go about the missions.

Initial impression nitpicks:

Yuck at that very, very bad old gen grass stretching and sliding. Straight out of MGS3.
Pop-in very bad (plenty of time for fixing that)
Graphics hurt by cross-gen. They said demo is PS4. PS4 can do so much better than this.
Brown desert locales are the worst. Please be a brief portion of the game.
Seriously, that grass.

Good things: Animation great, humor still present apparently, weather/time change, Mother Base

Was that Ocelot at the beginning? Lost his charm. Over the top campy voices are required for Kojima's over the top dialogues and sermons. Those made it work. The crazy MGS world needs self-aware performances.
If it's a typical Kojima Metal Gear script, these normal/bland voices won't match what he puts on screen. I've only heard Ocelot and Big Boss and they made me sleepy.

On other hand, if Kojima really does take try to make MGS an overly serious and dark movie, I fear for the unique fun and goofy but dramatic atmosphere only this series has.

Still buying it of course. It's MGS dang it.

It is open world, 1080p and 60fps.

Do you guys think there's some misdirection regarding Sutherland and Hayter, or is it really just that he's too expensive? With the giant stink that Hayter raised I'm kind of suspicious..

Whoa, this looks amazing. As someone who didn't really like MGS4, I think this looks like a game I can get behind. Customizing Motherbase is going to be fun!

I think there still could be some weird truth to that one video saying this could be vr simulation. Who knows. The weird camera sound it makes when you sort of zoom in with the camera, the tech that seems far beyond what even Kojima would use for the time period, the small amounts of Sutherland used so far, even in the overly long cinematics shown. It's a possibility I kinda like the idea of.

I'm seeing reactions that are different

-'Great, no instant alert. The guy had to use the radio'

-'I don't like the instant alert, they should have to use a radio'

I'm at work and can't watch, which is it?

In the gameplay that was shown today the base went on instant alert. But from people who saw it at E3 said a guard got their radio out instead of an instant alert.

Does Gamersyde's new host service allows for something like that? It's kind of sad that in 2014, YouTube's quality has to be the standard (though i understand your hands are tied).

Either way, thanks for going through the trouble man, lloking forward to the footage.

That Mother Base stuff was the coolest shit I've seen in quite some time. Phantom Pain really is Peace Walker 2.0

Game needs a "salute back" option!

You guys think they'll have a "previously on MGS" intro for this, or something like the MGS Database they released for MGS4?

I haven't really played the series since MGS2 and even then didn't understand WTF was going on.

You are the greatest man, Tora-senpai.

Clearly, he is Big ToraBoss, the legendary PR Mercenary.

MGS3 is my favorite for now, still. Playing it as much as I have, though, and especially after having played GZ, I find it had to believe this won't top it. Even though I don't care for the mother base stuff, much. The mechanics are just so much better, on top of letting us choose how we want to go about the missions.

See, in PW I couldn't stand the whole base management thing because it felt pretty pointless and the fact that Mother base was pretty much just a graphic on a screen.

In this I can see myself really putting in the effort seeing as it seems it is fairly important now, and despite Ground Zeroes shortness it is probably the best MGS game mechanically speaking, not to mention the graphics.

Oh man those graphics are so good, can't believe Phantom Pain looks even better.

That's understandable and I appreciate everything you are doing for us, thanks :)

Has anything been confirmed if there will be different outfits/cameo patterns you can choose before starting a mission? Or will Big Boss just have a default outfit for whatever environment he is entering? Would love the option to pick certain patterns or use the sneaking suit or heavy armor like in Peace Walker.

Gameplay: Perfect, love it, need it!

Graphics: Meh. It looks "okay," especially considering the level size, plus it's running 1080p/60fps. The lighting is great, just like in GZ. I think if they just work on eliminating pop-in, and better rock/grass textures it'll look superb. It's not bad-looking as it is right now, I just know it can look a lot better with just a few changes.

Overall, I'm really itching for this game. Gameplay/Story > Graphics, and it certainly seems to have the right gameplay and story.

They might have a text recap, but really you should play MGS3 and Peace Walker as a prerequisite to playing this. HD Collection is available on both PS3 and 360.

I believe pre-mission loadout has been confirmed, yes.

Not to mention the sheer notion of the Shagohod is pretty fucking ridiculous overall, the technology doesn't really bug me I've learned to turn off my brain when it comes to that and use good ole' suspension of disbelief.

this is what mgs4 should have been! Now you really do feel like you are in some gritty battlefield and what not.

I didnt think such game-play is possible on ps3, by a japanese developer!

He'll probably be in it as Solid Snake when they time skip 11 years.

I want this... but I honestly don't think that was the reason he was recast. I think if fans pushed for it and were respectable about the recast, there's a chance they would have rehired Hayter for Solid originally considering the role is vacant. That said, I can see Kojima getting someone else out of spite, as wouldn't rehiring Hayter in the end to be the definitive Solid Snake be like admitting defeat to the Kiefer haters if they genuinely never planned on using Hayter again? Like saying "oh we got this celebrity to play Big Boss, but he was never good enough to be THE Snake you guys were right" after all the rude comments.

It also feels like Hayter and Konami might have burnt some bridges after this fiasco, unless that was all an act. Also what happens with the japanese version? Akio talks to himself? Then there's nothing stopping them from having Kiefer talk to himself as well like with Ishmael or when he voiced Classic Snake. Makes me sad. They won't even dare speak Hayter's name anymore.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulton_surface-to-air_recovery_system

The Fulton surface-to-air recovery system (STARS) is a system used by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), United States Air Force and United States Navy for retrieving persons on the ground using aircraft such as the MC-130E Combat Talon I. It involves using an overall-type harness and a self-inflating balloon which carries an attached lift line. An MC-130E engages the line with its V-shaped yoke and the individual is reeled on board. Red flags on the lift line guide the pilot during daylight recoveries; lights on the lift line are used for night recoveries. Recovery kits were designed for one and two-man retrievals.

This system was developed by inventor Robert Edison Fulton, Jr., for the Central Intelligence Agency in the early 1950s. It was an evolution from a similar system[1] that was used during World War II by American and British forces. The earlier system did not use a balloon, but had a pair of poles that were set in the ground on either side of the person to be retrieved, with a line running from the top of one pole to the other. An aircraft, usually a C-47 Skytrain, would trail a grappling hook and engage the line, which was attached to the person to be retrieved.

I think that camera zoom sound is like the burnt celluloid or the rain hitting the screen, it makes it seem more film like. The anachronistic tech is a series staple. To be honest, the whole VR deal comes up in every entry post MGS2 and it'd be treading old ground that Kojima's already covered far more successfully.

Not to mention 1080p60fps 40 minute video would be like 10gb lol. But as long as you can upload to YouTube in 1080p and not 720p putrid stream quality all should be good. Thanks again Tora.

also, how cool is the soundtrack huh? at the start, where ocelot and big boss are looking over the desert, a beautiful piece of music plays. This OST is going to rock

Holy shit this game looks incredible. Customizing Mother Base is gonna be tons of fun. How do people feel about marking enemies now? I know it got a lot of hate at first but it actually looks extremely helpful now that the world is so much bigger. I'll probably disable that reflex thing though.

It might be the poor streaming quality but does anyone else think that the game is hurt by being cross gen? The lightning seemed more impressive in the 2013 trailer and here it's slightly muddy like GZ..
