Destiny PS4 Timed Exclusives will last until "At least Fall 2015"

Please, the amount of gloating done over things like TF going from timed to full exclusive was deafening.

Let's not play the victim card here when MS have been the main drivers of this model since last gen, wasn't MS's massive spending power lauded around here by many Xbox owners?

Something goes against the grain and a shit fit occurs, laughable

It is no the fact itself, i was kinda shocked by the user happiness to lock content out for other people for as much time as possible

Exclusive deals is something that won't disappear that's for sure, but as a multi console owner it's laughable, even the thought of it

There's alot of hypocrisy in here all of a sudden. As Jburton said, this has always been the way MS has worked. In fact, they go one up and outright moneyhat third party games just because they have the money to do so, which is worse to me.

All this exclusive DLC, timed bullshit needs to stop when it comes to third party games, but we all know it won't.

I'll most likely have a PS4 by the time Destiny comes out. Although, I think I'm still going to buy it for the XB1. I don't support these marketing strategies, and I'll show that with my wallet.

this i do not understand, the more other people wait to get something, the more you are happy?

the fuck is happening

I believe the Germans refer to it as "Schadenfreude". It's only natural that I am happy that I will get to experience the best version of the game, is it not? This information about exclusive content was known months ahead of release of the PS4/X1 and if people choose the X1 they have no right to complain.

It's more so being happy that the content will seemingly be exclusive for a full year instead of the usual few months. Why is that better for you? What changes due to that?

And yes, exclusive content was known for a long time but I'm pretty sure most assumed that it would only be for a few months.

Excellent news. Very glad to hear it, was expecting three months, but this is even better. Glad I chose the PS4.

Schadenfreud is pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others

even more stupid then lol

Right, well when this exclusive DLC bullshit is on the other system I don't wanna here crying and moaning like last generation. The vibe I get from this thread is "I'm alright so tough shit". So this thread should be kept as a reference point for future deals

Did you vote with your wallet when MS was doing it last-gen? Heck they still doing it they even locked a fucking mode on Fifa and Plants vs Zombiies GW did you also vote with you wallet too?

No, the way you said that makes it look like you're happy that other people are experiencing the worse version. Aka "Nice, you fuckers have to wait a whole year to play the whole thing."

Care to name some examples of people who are against this here but were for this with Titanfall?

I didn't say there where, just pointed out the difference with people berating this practice and making a big deal because something is not coming to Xbox for awhile but when TF was made full exclusive it was considered a victory by most X1 fans (going by posts at the time).

Trying to call me out to diminish my point, nice try.

Yup. Haven't bought Fifa or Plants Vs Zombies, and I was (and still am) very interested in Plants vs Zombies.

You are wondering how this affects me? Well, it makes me feel like I am getting more value for my money than if I had to wait an extra year for the content others are enjoying. And that in turn, makes me happy. And the longer the wait, the more the value rises for me, at least.

So it's basically PS4 exclusive. Who cares about some maps and some sp content one year after launch?

I'd rather see some exclusive games for every party instead of this "timed" exclusive bullshit, console debut etc..

If I don't get Destiny it isn't because of the exclusive content. I just didn't think much of the Alpha. To keep it short:

- Poorly designed main quest. Boss encounters specifically.
- FOV that made me feel like I was playing with binoculars on.
- Lazy spawn system that routinely spawns mobs right on top of you.
- Horrible, unabalanced multiplayer (pvp as they call it). Who has a shotgun? Everyone!

If I do end up getting Destiny it will be for the Xbox One. I can live without one quest, a map for a horrible multiplayer mode, and weapons/equipment that will be replaced within hours of starting the game anyway.

Yeah, I think you may have mentioned this in the previous 10 threads related to Destiny

Exclusive DLC usually isn't worth the time, so I don't care. I have PS4 and it's a nice bonus, but if I had Xbox I wouldn't feel like I'm missing out on something.

Seems like another reason to just avoid the game.

What? Because of a couple sets of armor and strike? That makes zero sense.

Timed exclusives aren't new, and up until recently, like with ground zeroes, cod, etc, timed exclusivity often meant 1 year.

Hell, people figured Titanfall was a 1 year exclusive before the EA deal went down. ME was at least one year on 360.

No reason why DLC exclusives should only last a couple months if they exist at all.

Microsoft does the exact same thing, and they've been doing it for years now. Call of Duty, Evolve, Dragon Age, The Division, the list keeps going.

As an Xbox One only gamer, I saw what was "exclusive" and it didn't really bother me. But I can see why people would be upset, I suppose.

Marvel

could never
I'm a bit shocked at the length of time of this deal in all honesty... I'm a PS4 owner but it sucks that those who want this shit on their Xbox One have to wait so long.

Lol what?

Microsoft is the pioneer of this strategy. This is the fist game Sony has had the sense to snag up.

Call of Duty DLC "First on Xbox"
Evolve "First on Xbox"
Battlefield 4 DLC "First on Xbox"
The Division "First on Xbox"

etc etc etc.

In fact that is one of if not Microsoft's biggest software strategy so far with the Xbox One.

Has anyone stepped back and asked if this content will actually be good? Most "exclusive content" is superfluous, unimportant to the story of the game or complete dog shit.

For most great games, it's like an after market tail on a Ferrari.

What's Microsoft doing with the division?

From Destructoid:

Tom Clancy's The Division will see its DLC coming to the Xbox One first. Sorry 'bout that, PC and PlayStation 4 adopters. The upcoming tactical shooter is slated for a 2015 release, and the latest footage out of E3 2014 showcases some interesting moves by other players who can play via mobile devices to control drones to support those on consoles.

Does timed exclusivity really even matter at this point? It's more for platform association than anything. The content that one is missing out on doesn't even feel meaningful, it's just to make sure you feel you're playing the "inferior" version.

So you're always going to buy the one that didn't get the exclusive DLC? The Division, Evolve, COD, etc on PS4 as an example?

How does the timeline for Titanfall go? I thought it was coming later to PS4 and there were rumors and Respawn wouldn't deny it, but then later if was changed to a ''life of title exclusive'' is that when it was in danger of being cancelled?

Then what point are you trying to make? I understand you think timed DLC is bad, but only doing this for one game doesn't make much sense, if you turn around and do the exact opposite later. Unless you're willing to go the extra mile to back up your words, don't bother.

Or just buy a Wii U

This. Shame about the strike mission tho.

Something something opinions

Apples to oranges. Destiny was an Xbox lead platform shooter from a former Microsoft studio, that made exclusive Xbox games for the past decade. Then, all of a sudden, they are on another platform, catering to fans who probably haven't even heard of their forums. Whereas many of us Halo/Bungie fans have been with them since 2001, even earlier.

Microsoft funded Insomniac's game from the start. They promised them they could keep their own IP, something Sony didn't, and in return published the game as an exclusive from the start.

I agree Insomniac Playstation fans should be upset, but without MS, the game wouldn't be made. Whereas, within a period of a year or two, Destiny has gone from Xbox lead platform, to almost year long timed exclusives for Sony.

A better example would be, imagine Naughty Dog buys themselves back from Sony, makes a new IP which is multiplatform and then, decides that Xbox gets exclusive alpha, beta, content, etc. How would the Playstation fans feel then?

I no longer have a real horse in this race. I'm a huge Bungie fan, will buy this game, already have it pre-ordered. But I'm also a Halo fan. I joined GAF for the Halo community here. So I'll be forced to go Xbox One, especially with the Master Chief Collection. This November, I'll be playing either Destiny, or games Bungie made ten+ years ago Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3. It sucks to lose out on content. I had a ten year bungie.net account that I've lost, and now only have an 8 year bungie account.

Just get over it Bungie made a conscious decision when they've team up with Activision and Sony approched to make a deal. MS does the same thing with other games and publishers. This is a reality of the market,

Meh, as long as I can play the main content of the game and the multiplayer parts i'm content. I don't really care for an extra map or extra gear.

Well, Sony knows how to make third party exclusivity deals (this and AC exclusive missions). This is much better to create that fake value of worth than a month in advance DLC. If Bungie, Activision and PS players win with this deal then is fine. Personally I'm getting it on X1 and probably won't play enough to miss the exclusive content.

This is terrible. Just as it was with all other 'exclusive content deals' that had existed throughout the generation. CoD, AC,WD, BF...

This is arguably the worst thing that competition has brought to the market, imo. ( paid online was bad, but imo, it led to PS+ and GwG and overall improved online, so there was some silver lining )

The broadening scope of 'exclusive content' is permuting all aspects of too many 3rd-party games. And the ironic thing is that it's arguably 'proven' to work, which is why publishers and platform holders are doubling down on securing exclusive 'content.'

Another problem is the transparency behind all these things. To me, stuff like Diablo 3 exclusive Playstation content doesn't bother me, because those things are clearly permanent exclusives content that were created because Sony paid for them to exist like TLoU clickers dungeon, etc. Stuff like Grim Fandango as well, as it's a console exclusive because Sony actively approached and made the deal happen as the liaison and partner between Disney, etc.

But then we have 60 minutes 'exclusive content' on Playstation for AC/WD. Or timed exclusives content that are clearly more of an 'yo, I'm excluding you all from this content for X amount of time, suckers!"
