Today, Ubisoft released its sales figures for the fiscal quarter ended June 30, 2014.

Sales
Sales for the first quarter of 2014-15 came to €360 million, up 374% (or 386% at constant
exchange rates) compared with the €76 million recorded for first-quarter 2013-14.
The first quarter sales figure was higher than the target of approximately €310 million
announced when Ubisoft released its full-year 2013-14 results.

This performance reflects:

 The success of Watch Dogs, which broke Ubisoft’s and industry’s sales record for,
respectively, the launch of a new game and of a new brand, with over 8 million sell-in
units.

 Strong growth reported in the digital segment, with sales up 149% to €84 million, driven by Watch Dogs, the success of Ubisoft’s Free-to-Play mobile games and the releases of Trials FusionTM, Child of LightTM and Valiant Hearts The Great WarTM.

At E3 2014, media and gamers recognized the high quality of the games presented by Ubisoft as demonstrated by a record number of awards won and a 27% share of views on Youtube. Assassin's Creed Unity® and Far Cry® 4 took first and second place respectively in the Gamespot Trax E3 chart, which also recognized Ubisoft as top publisher.

Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, said, "The success of Watch Dogs and the quality of our games portfolio presented at this year’s E3 highlight our strategic positioning as well as our continuous drive for innovation, and affirm our long-term approach. Watch Dogs is now well positioned as a major franchise and we will be able to replicate and build on its success in the coming years. Its sales performance testifies to Ubisoft’s expertise as a creator of blockbuster brands. That expertise enables us to stand out from our competitors at the beginning of each console cycle and therefore to reach a new dimension. Additionally, Ubisoft created a
strong impression at the last E3 with titles such as Assassin’s Creed Unity, The Crew, The Division, Far Cry 4, Just Dance Now and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.”
“Although the financial year has only just started, our confidence for fiscal 2014-15 has been reinforced by our first-quarter performance and the keen anticipation for our upcoming games."

That's about to overtake AC1's LTD (which was 9 million IIRC after about three years).

It's already far beyond what AC1 did in its first fiscal year (6.3 million).

I expect the sequel in about three months time.

Last time Yves was asked he implied that Watch Dogs 2 would get a two year cycle and the series might be annualized after that point a la Assassin's Creed.

Basically they want to make sure they have enough time to work out all the kinks before building sequels in parallel.

That's unfortunate. Would rather see people buying games that are actually good instead of poorly designed AAA titles.

Haters gonna hate. Game was by no means perfect or revolutionary but I had lots of fun with it. The combat was solid, and the story missions were pretty nicely varied. Loved the puzzle element to a lot of the stealth/hacking missions where you infiltrate buildings.

They benefited from launching in a window where there wasn't that many great games to play.

Plus didn't it launch on all the major platforms?

Nice, enjoyed my time with it a lot. Hacking is addictive, for a first outing it was great and I know they'll improve even more in the next one. Looking forward to the sequel!

I guess it's just physical shipments they're accounting for, or did Child of Light push next to nothing on Wii U?

Let's face it, the only real loud controversy was happening here and other spots of the internet. For the average gamer, they didn't hear that noise or only heard the marketing, which clearly works. I haven't seen so many ads for a game in quite a while. It seemed inevitable to me that it would do well, no matter how I feel about their practices

Awesome. Loved WD on PC in that sweet ultra spec. It has a great potential, hopefully Ubi will manage to utilize it. I wonder which city will be next. Please be Europe! Chicago was great, but we don't need more US cities. GTA has that covered.

Wonderful news. I'm still having lots of fun with it, and this means we'll get a sequel that has potential to be even better. And hopefully for current gen consoles only.

No cross-gen Watch Dogs 2 plz Ubi!

Unfortunately I am one of the many people who bought this game. Incredibly disappointed with Watch Dogs. My bad, I knew I should have cancelled my preorder when the real gameplay videos released.

With this news we can definitively expect a Watch_Dogs 2 release for 2016 at the earliest!?

Rented the PS4 version but couldn't get over the blurry visuals so I only played the first couple story missions and a bunch of side stuff
before I realized that I should just wait and pick it up on PC....

My CPU is an old i7 920 so I am waiting until I upgrade my rig before I do so... by then performance issues on PC will most likely be resolved and I'll get it on discount too :)

I enjoyed the main storyline despite hating a lot of the game's mechanics. After it was over and I started doing the side missions for trophies, I really grew to detest the game. Glad they made their money though. Hopefully the next game is better.

Well shitballs, that's a lot of units. Im borrowing it from a friend and just started chapter 2. Its pretty good, but not the most amazing thing Ive ever played. That said, I do intent to platinum it. Its pretty fun so far.

Great stuff.

Best 2 games this year that i've played thus far are Watch Dogs and South Park TSoT, so good on Ubisoft.

Nice, it's amazing to see a new IP work this well. And I like the game a lot, a sequel with improvements and refinements would be more than welcome as far as I'm concerned. I wonder if the decision to send AC off to QC City has anything to do with the MTL core team now being dedicated to this franchise, on top of Far Cry and R6S...

Got damn, even a mediocre third person game from ubisoft sells. Here is to hoping the second is much better. I will give the series one more chance, the first had some interesting ideas.

I bought it, haven't played it though. Got it digital on PS4. Driving was a turn-off but I think I'll power through it. I paid $70 so it's like I have to play it.

So we're gonna dismiss legitimate concerns just because a game made it sales? I dread to see the reaction had SimCity and Dungeon Keeper mobile achieved the same success.

How on earth? I didn't think it was that popular, even my none gamer friends thought it sucked.

well if they thought it sucked, they had to have played it

and unless they're pirates they had to buy it, which means ubishit had to ship more copies

I bet they still don't have enough resources to bother with fixing the fucking broken PC version. Fuck you, Ubisoft! I look forward to buying an Nvidia sponsored code to your next broken PC game so that I don't have to support your sorry ass directly. Side note to Nvidia, you embarrass yourself being associated with technical disasters, but keep it up, it saves me money!. :D

It's one of the worst AAA games I've ever played. But I felt much the same about AC1, so if they can make that AC1 --> AC2 jump, I'd still be somewhat interested.
