It's a smart move from a marketing standpoint. Not for the sake of DKR2 itself, but for all of those other games that follow. Your average person doesn't know Mallo or Tempo or Dillon or whoever, but put them in a mainstream kart racer starring Diddy Kong and all of the sudden the K-12 demographic love these characters and will be more interested in their eShop releases.

I'm really wondering why Nintendo radically redesigned Tiny Kong in the first place instead of just scrapping her like they did for the other DK64 Kongs (rest in peace lanky kong).
I'd normally blame Rare's portable team (Candy/Berri/Krystal), but Loveday on Scribes claimed it was a ready-made design/model Nintendo supplied to them when they worked on DKRDS.

So this rumor mentions Rusty. What would Monster Games do about his Japanese model? While Rusty fits the whole DKR aesthetic well, his Eastern style doesn't.

I read this in the most recent Hellboy TPB:

This would be an interesting move. IF it is true and it has been leaked, I will be interested to see if Nintendo decides to announce it sooner rather than later.
I have always wondered why people are okay with Nintendo having multiple platformers (2D Mario, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby) but they're so against two kart racers.
Especially when Diddy Kong offers a much deeper single player experience than Mario Kart.
I've fallen for enough fakes but also dismissed enough real news to say "I don't know" on this one
What I will say is these sort of rumors are fun because they get people dreaming

Never thought this would be something I could say, but I have a line of communication with Monster, and while I can't confirm 100% it's DKR2, I can confirm, perhaps well outside my comfort level, that they're working on something for the WiiU that is pretty much talked about by everyone involved as the most exciting thing to be done on WiiU yet, and that they are certain it's going to blow people away upon reveal.
I genuinely wasn't told details because while I may want to know, I don't trust myself with that much knowledge, so it's likely best they didn't either.

Eh, maybe it's real. Maybe Acid Ghost was really a game in development. Maybe Nintendo really are making a Pokemon MMO. Dreaming is fun, though.

The only thing that has bugged me about the Acid Ghost/Eminem rumor is whether it was really about Call of Duty Ghosts. Since Eminem was heavily involved in the marketing and promotion for Call of Duty Ghosts.

Regardless of whether this rumor is true, it would not surprise me in the slightest that Nintendo has interest to make another DKR. They see no problem in having multiple platformers out at once (NSMB, DKCR, Yoshi, Kirby, etc). And certainly, open-world adventure-based DKR is different enough from Mario Kart.
Even if this rumor is false, Nintendo is probably looking at all of their Mario Kart 8 money and thinking "...maybe another Kart racer printing money wouldn't be a bad idea..."
