As weird and unexpected as this is, I don't get why everyone is having a meltdown and thinking this means Rayman could be playable. I don't think there's a remote chance of that. This isn't that different from The Wonderful 101.

I dunno, I'm not seeing Rayman playable at all. Really unexpected PotD, though!

Smash 4 could have 8 third parties and it would still only take up about a tenth of the roster. That's hardly "overrun"

Nintendo owns the W101 like they own Pokemon. It's a lot different.

I would like to see more 3rd party characters represented in Smash. It's not like guest characters in Smash appear incongruous like it does in other games with a strong core theme like Soul Calibur. I want to see Battletoads and Double Dragon in Smash.

It is, however, an entire new model Sakurai's staff didn't have anything to do with, which of course they'd have to if they were to program all of the animations a playable character requires. This is so odd...

There's not going to be 80 characters, man.
But I agree, there's several third parties who I wouldn't have a problem with. Namely Snake, Rayman, Travis Touchdown, Rocket Slime, and any glory day Rare characters.

We were expecting to receive 2D drawing references for Rayman, but to our surprise, they sent us data of a brand new 3D model that they rendered for this game!! And that was how this trophy was created. It takes a lot of work creating each model, so it's wonderful that the creators contributed their own efforts!!

Hahaha, John Harker is right about what he heard. This update truly mindfucked me when I woke up and checked iPad to see what is the update. At first, I thought I was dreaming but hell naw, I wasn't dreaming. That shit is totally unexpected, and I'm hyped to see what's up. I guess we might see Rayman being playable character somehow, DLC? or Smash 5?

It's completely different from The Wonderful 101 because that was a game co-developed by Nintendo SPD and funded and published by Nintendo. Nintendo also owns the TW101 IP.

If he's licensed for inclusion, at the very, very least, in ~8 years when Project M 2.0 is released, he'll be playable in that.

Yep.

Mega Man, Pac-Man, and Sonic are the perfect third party trifecta. I would prefer that Sakurai put his energy into bringing in other Nintendo IP to the Smash fold and expanding the franchises that are already represented.

I totally did my math wrong. A sixth or seventh of the roster is more accurate.

Part of me hopes that Rayman isn't playable, since I'm not a fan of him and would prefer to have those assets put elsewhere. On the other hand... Rayman being playable gives hope that the Gamatsu leak isn't all inclusive.

It's not just about a certain percentage, but the mindshare they take.

I feel like Nintendo is skirting a fine line with the 3rd party characters. If they keep adding more, it'll overtake the whole narrative of the series.

It already happens enough as it is, and I think it devalues the IP. (I feel the same way about any fighting series in relation to guest characters.)
