Doom announced (id/Bethesda, PC/PS4/XB1, idtech6, 1080p/60fps, gore), first details

Yeah, I really love Serious Sam 3. That's not what I meant though - I was asking why he would rather it be like Doom 3 than the fantastic Serious Sam 3.

Becuase I have played Serious Sam and Rise of the Triad not so long ago, so I'd enjoy some hasteless atmospheric horror rather than fast-paced shooter. I grew weary of them in the last years. And because I love Doom 3, I really do.

Like the sound of most of this. Speed is definitely something that's welcome, as is a big shotgun. Less enthused about the ripping limbs, kicking dudes stuff. Brutal Doom never did it for me, always came off as kinda stupid, prefer to shoot a dude than kick a dude any day of the week!

Sounds like the game is taking the infamous comic as inspiration. That's a good thing in my book. Should be absolutely nuts and metal.

It was gonna be 60fps on PC no matter what, so that isn't really some bullet point for me, personally... and I suspect many here.
Yeah, its just means, that id will not push graphics to the limit and orientation to console hardware (too bad, remembering dat Quake~Doom3 days, upgrading pc just for this games :) )

So, it's like Serious Sam 3? From what information PCG shared it's definitely looks like Serious Sam 3. I really hoped it to be like Doom 3.
There's nothing about Doom 3 that I want Doom 4 to be like. Nothing at all. Not the engine. Not the gameplay. Doom 4 needs to be as far from Doom 3 as you can get. By which I mean 10 years so far from Doom 3 that it's practically Doom 1 again.

I'm pretty sure there are other games you might look to if you're into that stuff.

Is Doom still big? I've never followed this game beyond the original shareware.
Doom has a large fan community that pumps out very creative map packs and mods on a regular basis. Members have altered Doom's source code to allow for higher resolutions and greater custom-content capabilities, and so sites like Doomworld and the ZDoom forums have fostered a generation of talented game makers.

Fun fact: ACE Team (Zeno Clash, Rock of Ages, and now Abyss Odyssey) got their start by making total-conversion mods like ZanZan.

So basically they just copycat someone's genius take on Doom (Brutal Doom) and implement it in AAA and claim it was them all along. Only hardcore fans will know the truth.

OK, my hype levels are definitely intensifying.

I really like that they scrapped that entire COD formula that Kotaku reported they were aiming for few years back. Looks like they saw what Machine Games were doing with Wolfenstein:TNO, looked at Brutal Doom and mixed it together.

After all the Doom&gloom (pun intended) about this game, nice to see that those lucky enough to see the presentation first hand were so impressed.

Now, WHERE IS THAT LEAKED FOOTAGE?!

Seriously, after seeing that people really like the new Doom, why not just release the trailer to public (no point in waiting for 2015. which will be jam-packed with megahits).

Is taking inspiration from good ideas always considered "copy cat"? It's not like they're using any of the engine or assets. They just took some ideas from brutal doom and implemented it in their new game.

Has any video leaked yet? How can something like this be kept secret these days?

The better question is how can something like this not get shown to the public? Seems like everyone was impressed and enjoyed the demo. Come on Bethy, release the video.

Write-ups are nice, but without seeing/playing the game myself, I don't feel excited. I think part of my interest in this game's been dampened by the decision to, after all these years, only show off the game at QuakeCon and hold off showing more publicly till next year. That and all the negativity surrounding id for the past few years.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade - I'm happy they're finally showing the game off. But I need something more tangible for me to get a feel for Doom: Not Doom 4.

New Doom you say?

Well that isn't really what Doom is, or was ever about. Doom 3 was a monumental mis-step in terms of staying true to the series ethos.

Interesting. What about sales of the Doom games?

Supposedly...id's engines of late have been very scalable..it should allow the Xbone to reach that goal...

Whether it matches the PS4 in other areas is a whole different story

Well to be fair, to scale to the graphics they have on consoles... both engage in dynamic resolutions at times.

I definitely find this to be an alright idea for consoles... but definitely should be an optional thing on PC.
