My Little Pony FiM Community [OT3] Surely You Saw This Coming

Wow, loving the rendering style of this. The actual model is a bit SFM for my tastes, but the way she animates and the shading are fantastic. Even the little things like the way the texture of her mane becomes visible in the light are beautifully done.

Con schedules!
MLP Panel:

Guests from Hasbro Studios My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic airing on the Hub Network in the U.S. and My Little Pony Equestria Girls share details of the making of the popular animated series and a sneak peek into the new My Little Pony Equestria Girls Rainbow Rock movie coming this fall. Q&A with members of the Hasbro Studios team and voice talent.
Friday July 25, 2014 11:45am - 12:45pm

IDW Panel:

IDW editors John Barber and Carlos Guzman, along with Michael Kelly, Hasbro's director for global publishing, offer a comprehensive overview of all things IDW & Hasbro. Transformers! My Little Pony! G.I. Joe! Dungeons & Dragons! Announcements! Prizes! Featuring writer Mairghread Scott, writer/artist Tom Scioli, and many more special guests.
Friday July 25, 2014 1:30pm - 2:30pm
So if we take that as written, the panel will mainly focus on Equestria Girls, probably with the official announcement of Equestria Academy. If season 5 really isn't coming until 2015, then we may not even get any animatics. I admit, I am pessimistic about how interesting I'll find this year's panel.

And since I posted the Mane-iac Equestria Girls box:
Capture.PNG

Spike really is quite happy there. Anyway, I think this toy looks better in its box than it did in its first reveal.

It's kind of funny how it's clear that everyone was expecting Mane-iac to be a big thing with the fans. I'm guessing they didn't expect her to be completely overshadowed by Flutterbat and even Coco Pommel.

Damn, I just got done reading issue 20 of the comics...

Reflections might just have surpassed Zen and the Art of Gazebo Repair for me for best arc.

I've gone into more detail about it earlier, but while I really liked the first two issues of the Reflections arc, I wasn't a big fan of the last two.

OH WHAT. 50 hour marathon of MLP coming to the Hub, including all 91 episodes, Equestria Girls, and the G3 specials Twinkle Wish Adventures, The Princess Promenade, and The Runaway Rainbow. Well, not a contiguous marathon; it's spread over five days, from 9 AM to 7 PM ET, from Monday, August 4 to Friday, August 8, so a bit less exciting than it seemed at first. The G3 specials will be airing at the end, on Friday. There will also be interstitials where live action people ask the main six questions. Also note that the press release reiterates the 2015 start date for season 5.

IDW's Kids Comics panel scheduled. Note that last year, this panel ended up having a lot more information and previews about the MLP comic than the normal IDW panel.

Also, Shout Factory has an Equestria Girls photo booth... I guess some people will be interested. It also appears that they have an exclusive poster for MLP, and you get an Equestria Girls poster with it for free. I wonder how many people will turn down the free offer.

EDIT: DashCon

Supposed synopsis of Rainbow Rocks

The point that people would actually care about:
the Twilight in this movie is the pony version. Sunset Shimmer realizes that Adagio Dazzle's band is going to cast a spell on the school, so she has the human Main Five summon her back to Dougworld. Bleh.
.

Meh. I can just pretend it doesn't exist if it sucks hard enough.

This a pretty funny little video of a fan getting completely trolled by John de Lancie at Toronto Comicon. Just a head's up. it is a little nsfw.

This is actually pretty fantastic. Delancie seems like... quite a character.

Issue #21 was a decently fun issue, though it was mainly just set up. I guess disguising yourself as Luna is the equivalent of wearing a Nixon mask in Equestria. The art is pretty cute. The use of a tracking chip was odd, but I suppose it being activated with magic makes it OK; it still should looked more magical, though, instead of just looking like a generic computer chip. I'm guessing the police officer that cast the tracking spell at the end is the real culprit and the real gem wasn't actually stolen until the smoke bomb went off.

After July's month of Trixie in the comics, it looks like October is going to be the month of Fluttershy.

MY LITTLE PONY FRIENDS FOREVER #10
Cover A
Subscription cover
(W) Christine Rice (A) Agnes Garbowska (CA) Amy Mebberson
Fluttershy gets an unexpected visit from the most aggressive guy around, Iron Will! Can Fluttershy teach the minotaur the benefits of a more gentle demeanor?

MY LITTLE PONY FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC #24
Cover A
(W) Jeremy Whitley (A) Brenda Hickey (CA) Amy Mebberson, Brenda Hickey
Discord knows Fluttershy loves animals, so decides to take her and the Cutie Mark Crusaders on a trip through time so they can see some of the amazing animals of Equestria's past! Unfortunately, some of them aren't so friendly. And Discord CAN remember how to get back home... right?

I didn't expect to see Iron Will in Friends Forever, and Discord as Mr. Peabody is pretty great, though it's kind of weird to see him teaming up with the CMC again.

Issue #21 was pretty cool and fun, but I still think that Agnes Garbowska is a pretty poor sequential artist, as she doesn't seem to have a good grip on dynamic action representation. I'm guessing that she has a career background that is solidly settled on illustrations and picture books, which are much more fitting for her great watercolor shading. I'm a bit worried that she's becoming more of a regular in pony comics as time passes. The same is happening with Brenda Hickey, though, and her work is much better, so I guess that's one step forward and another one back.

Anyway, I made another emofuri thing, just enough to be done pandering to Luna fans and learning to use that damned software once and for all. Perhaps I'll take emofuri commissions, fans sound like they would dig it!

Large GIF coming up!

It's the most elaborate and detailed one I've seen so far. The rest look like demos.

This actually looks like something. Super well done.

I enjoyed #21 a bunch, certainly more than I expected to. I liked the cast they chose to run with for this one, and the way they're using the location is fun and interesting too.

I'd agree with this, there's definitely a lack of energy/flow in her illustrations. That being said, the watercolour look is really lovely, so I'm distracted enough by the pretty visuals to not be bothered too much overall.

Love it! If I had to complain, I'd say the happy nuzzle looks a little off, but other than that it's so freakin adorable <3<3<3

Hello there!

I just watched a documentary called 'Bronies' about...umm...bronies.

I'm neither a bro nor a fan of My Little Pony (and I wasn't as a child, really, either) BUT I was really struck by just how warm and sincere everyone was. It was very nice and fuzzy - and I also thought it was very brave for men to actually stand up for so-called 'feminine' traits.

So, I don't really know what to say nor do I know any of you, but it seems to me like a very nice thing. :)

Hi.

It is usually a pretty nice community all-round, yes. Part of the fun, really. I mean the cartoon is nice and all, but the community, and especially the creative parts of it, is really something to behold at times. The speed of which a new character gets turned into a fan-plushie is just... crazy. Like it's measured in hours after the episode airs. Myself, I've taken up drawing due to the show. Wanted to see if I could draw one of the ponies. So, I got the show to thank for that. My avatar is self-made, for instance.

And I think a lot of us will happily admit that "adult male fans of My Little Pony" does sound kind of amusing, but that's really how it is. It's not ironic, it's just a cute little show about surprisingly well-rounded characters doing day-to-day things with each other and/or saving the world. Sometimes both at the same time. They just happen to be brightly colored cartoon ponies.

I think the sincerity in the community you've spotted comes from the show itself. It just dares to be what it is, and doesn't go for the obvious wink-wink, nudge-nudge bits of adult humor that so many cartoons do these days. Not that it goes completely without references that would go unnoticed by children, but it never really revels in them. It's just what it is. My Little Pony, but good.

I suppose all I can say is, if you're curious, give the show a try. Or don't. It's up to you. If you want episode recommendations, we can help with that, I'm sure. But just going from the beginning is fine, too. That's how a lot of us started.

Nice of you to drop by. I haven't actually seen Bronies, but from what I hear, it's a fairly decent documentary.

There is also a second brony documentary coming out, called A Brony Tale, which is generally getting a better reception: the one you watched is considered by a lot of fans to be too self-congratulatory, while A Brony Tale is a documentary from the perspective of one of the voice actors reacting to and growing to appreciate the fandom. Though a problem a lot of fans have with these documentaries is that they focus too much on the "guys watch My Little Pony" part and don't place enough emphasis on the "this My Little Pony show is legitimately good" part.

Anyway yeah, in general, the fandom is a lot of fun, though it can get self-centered at times.

Cool, ok! I'm doing an all-nighter and it'll be nice to take a break from gaming. Give me a recommendation and I'll watch it. But if it's not for me, I will say so.

Yeah, I can understand that. What struck me was the way there were parallels between 'coming out' as a fan of a show and 'coming out' as being queer. It was interesting.

Thanks. I think a strange side effect of liking a show like this is, well, if a man can enjoy a My Little Pony show, maybe I can't be so quick to judge others on their opinions of what they enjoy. Hence a bit of a warm and fuzzier fandom.

Yes, warmth and sincerity is a good way to describe my general experiences in the fandom too. I've met a few bronies who are... out there, shall we say, but the vast, vast majority have been amazing people.

I'm not sure we're quite as perfect as the documentaries would have you believe, but the MLP fan community is definitely a warmer and more welcoming one than many others I could name. As Owlowiscious said, I think the shock of coming to enjoy a show for young girls has the positive side-effect of making people a little more accepting towards others.

Anyhow, thanks for stopping by! Its always nice to see someone on the outside with something positive to say.

Oh, and if you've an interest in checking the show out, I'd personally suggest just chipping away at the first season in-order. You may like it straight away or hate it straight away, or if you're like me it might just grow on you over handful of episodes. Episodes are only 20 minutes long, so there's not much to lose.

That concludes rankings for season 3. Season 4 will start next weekend. Visit the irc channel (#ponyGAF @ irc.globalgamers.net) for info.

So the MLP Comic Con event is on Friday. Any last predictions? Unfortunately, I imagine that in terms of announcements, it will be dominated by Rainbow Rocks details and maybe an official announcement for Equestria Academy, since it's starting to seem more like the 2015 date for season 5 is the real deal. Any big season 5 details will probably come from the Q&A session. In terms of clips, we already know we're getting Rainbow Rocks clips, and we may get Equestria Academy clips. I get the suspicion that we won't even get animatics for season 5 like we did for season 4. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, though.
